Kevin thought it was just going to be a joke. Something stupid to do with his friends on Halloween night just to get some stupid college kicks. His friend Josh came up with the idea to do a ritual in Grant Cemetery. They were already pretty much nerds, playing Magic and Dungeons and Dragons what difference would it make to do a little black magic in the cemetery?
What Kevin didn't expect was for his other friend Steve to go balls out with the ritual. The guy did research, looking for things that they could actually do and get a result. Kevin never thought something would happen, to him it was just going to end up as a role play out in public. Hell they probably wouldn't be the only group doing stupid joke magic that night.
First thing was deciding to do the ritual in Grant Cemetery, because that burial site once belonged to the Indians, before the country began. Then the Europeans took it over in the late 1600's. The level of history in the cemetery was amazing. Two weeks before Halloween Josh came up all excitedly with a old book. He claimed he found a ritual that would bind a vampire to them. The only catch was that one of them needed to use their own blood to summon the vampire awake and bind it to them. Josh and Steve both suffered from different blood disorders, Josh had diabetes, and Steve had a clotting problem.
The ritual call for nothing major in terms of blood, Kevin would simply cut his palm with a swallow blade and dip it into a bowl. He could do that, it was like giving himself a long papercut. Steve went to a costume shop and bought them robes, like they were going to be dark cultists. Kevin was thankful that this was going to be done on halloween so they wouldn't be too embarassing looking.
There was even a script to it, Kevin had to memorize the words of this nonsense. Supposedly the words had to be said while cutting his palm, which would help fight through the pain and actually go through with the plan. So Kevin made sure to memorize them.
Finally the big night came and at midnight Kevin, Josh and Steve were standing on a small rise in the cemetery. Kevin spoke loud while he cut into his hand. "With my blood rise, as my heart will beats as yours, my will is yours. Rise and serve, Come forth and come before your master!" He roared, letting his blood drip onto the five candles they had set around in a pattern.
A icy wind gusted over the hill at that exact moment and blew out all the candles instantly. Josh, Kevin, and Steve, stood there in silence waiting for something to happen. The wind was unexpected and they waited for something to burst from the ground before them.
Nothing more happened.
No wind.
No vampire on its knees to serve them.
Jack utter shit.
Kevin looked around at them, "Well that was fun. I'm going to go drink."
Josh shook his head and looked through the book, "This was supposed to work."
Steve shrugged, "Maybe there is no vampire here man. Can't call something that aint there."
"Of course there isn't a vampire here, dude." Kevin said, "Come on man it is fun to pretend but vampires are fucking fake, this was a roleplay and that's it. Now let's go drink and see if there is a party or something we can crash." Kevin said walking back toward the car.
As they left the hill, the ground underneath where they had been standing started to ripple.
