At the beginning of the summer term a letter was posted on the notice board saying that later in the term a voluntary course on the study witchcraft would start. This letter was the talking point on the campus for the next couple of weeks some thought it was a big joke while others took it seriously but as the weeks went by and no new letter appeared it was eventually forgotten.

The next time anybody heard about it was on the Sunday at the start of the last week of term when a list appeared asking for the names of those who would be interested in joining the course which would start on the following Wednesday two days before the end of term. By the Tuesday when the notice was taken down the list was quite extensive and they only required ten students for the course.

The lecturers got together and started to wheedle out the ones that they knew were groups of friends, then they looked for the bright students and made up a list of possible students from these. After that they sorted through so that in most cases the selected ten didn’t have any known connection with each other so hopefully they’d all be virtual strangers although they would probably know each other by sight. Invites where given to these ten students with instructions to reply to the head immediately either accepting or rejecting the course because the lecturers had chosen well everyone accepted.

It was now 3pm on the Wednesday afternoon and the ten selected students where entering the classroom, the tables and chairs where set out so they were in two rows from the front with a reasonable gap between them all effectively isolating each student from its neighbour. The lecturer watched the five girls and five guys enter the class and arranged them so that every student had a member of the opposite sex immediately in front and behind them and also directly alongside them.

On each table was a book with the heading ‘An Introduction to Witchcraft’ along with a list of suggested research material.

“Good afternoon all, I’m Charles Thomas and answer to either sir, Charles or Chas as I don’t intend to stand on ceremony and would like a relaxed class,” the lecturer introduced himself to the students. As he walked around he gave each student a piece of folded card before returning to the front of the class.

“As you’ll all have gathered I’m new here so I don’t know any of you so can you put your name on the card I’ve given you and stand it in front of you on your table so I can see it until I learn who everybody's names,” he explained the reason for the card he’d given out.

“I know the course is starting late but we’ll get todays and tomorrows lessons in to give you something to think about over the break. You’ve all got a book in front of you and a suggested list of research material its up to you whether you use the list or find your own sources,” he informed them.

As I watched the rest of the class stream in it occurs to me that I had no clue who any of them were. I had seen a few of them around the grounds but never spoke to any of them. Some were even in classes that I was in but it wasn’t like I talked to very many people anyway. I was here to learn not to socialize, a few friends yeah but my schooling came first anything else was second to me right at this time in my life.

The Professor had set up the tables and chairs before we had even come into the room. So taking a seat up near the front I begin examining the materials before me. Witchcraft to me was a hobby so when they posted the notice about this class my curiosity got the best of me and I put my name on the list, hoping that I would be chosen for the project. Then when I had received word that it was to begin and indeed I was to be included my excitement grew to major proportions. Witchcraft as a study who knew I would be checking it out in school, now a days any religion was frowned upon, but this was almost to the extreme.

The papers before me gave a listing of books by authors I had heard of before, never had the chance to read but had wanted to. Picking up the list I start to read each of the titles of the books thinking where I might find each of the titles. I knew the local book stores would probably carry the books but I wasn’t sure.

As the Lecturer begins to speak my attention is captured, as he begins introduces himself to us.

“Good afternoon all, I’m Charles Thomas and answer to either sir, Charles or Chas as I don’t intend to stand on ceremony and would like a relaxed class.”

With this comment I could hear several of the other students chuckle right along with me. This Professor was going to be a cool one, I could tell, he had set the mood perfectly for most of his class in a matter of minutes. He then begins moving about the class handing out cards to each of us explaining as he goes.

“As you’ll all have gathered I’m new here so I don’t know any of you so can you put your name on the card I’ve given you and stand it in front of you on your table so I can see it until I learn who everybody's names.”

Smiling I take the card from him thanking him as I begin to write my name on the card, setting it exactly as he had asked on the front of my desk with I had accomplished my task.

“I know the course is starting late but we’ll get today's and tomorrows lessons in to give you something to think about over the break. You’ve all got a book in front of you and a suggested list of research material its up to you whether you use the list or find your own sources.”

The minute he mentioned giving us something to think about, during summer break and the groans began I knew he had lost some of the group. But not me, I was still interested, more so now then when I had been in the beginning. Looking about me once more I could see some who looked disappointed and others who like me looked like it didn’t matter to them either way. This was going to be fun..

Ed played soccer for the college and when the first notice had gone up the team had talked a lot about it he’d enjoyed the stories about witchcraft when he was in his early teens and realised this was a change to see how true these stories actually were.

At weekends during the term he’d scoured the second hand bookshops looking for books on witchcraft and now had quite a collection in his room even though nothing had come from the original notice.

His plan for the summer was to drive to his parent’s cabin in the hills and read as much as he could about the subject from the books he’d acquired during the term with a bit of fishing to supplement his stores he’d enjoy the break.

Then the second notice had gone up and he couldn’t wait to put his name onto the list and was excited when he got the invitation to attend the class this afternoon he could feel the tension of his few fellow students as they filed into the classroom and were directed into place by the unknown lecturer.

Once he’d sat down Ed looked around at the others and thought he half recognised one of the girls as a cheerleader he was sure he’d seen her practicing when they’d had soccer practice but had never seen her at any of their games. Maybe that was because they only ever had half a dozen girls at their matches supporting them the main cheerleader team followed the football team.

The rest of the class he’d seen around the campus but had never had reason to actually speak to them as none of them attended any of his normal classes. He listened as Charles introduced himself and wrote his name on the card he was given as the rest of the class did.

The book on his table was a modern book which he’d never seen before and the list of research material he was sure included some of the books he’d already gathered for his sojourn in the cabin. He hadn’t expected that there would be another lesson the following day as that was the last full day in college which normally was very informal as far as lessons were concerned.

“One of the first things to learn about the use of witchcraft is that you must believe in what you’re doing and you’d be amazed at the number of people that believe you can do it once you get into the habit yourself. The early witchdoctors in Africa relied on the belief of the tribe when they cursed or cured somebody this belief caused either the curse or cure to work,” Charles explained to the hushed class.

“Now open the book in front of you and you’ll see in the first few chapters that the point is made over and over again self belief is very important,” he told them as the class opened their books and read the first few chapters finding that what he said was repeated numerous times in those chapters.

Suddenly the bell went for the end of class and Ed couldn’t believe how fast the time had flown as he closed his book and looked around before starting to stand.

“Before you go there’s a couple of things I’ve got to tell you,” Charles stopped the class from leaving immediately. “I’m going to ask you all to research a project over the summer break and to complete the project I’m going to sort you out into pairs. I’ll tell you the project and the pairings tomorrow before the end of class so you’ll have tomorrow night to sort out how much time you’re going to spend working together,” he explained causing a number of groans from the class as they’d lose part of their summer break.

Ed groaned because it meant that he probably wouldn’t be able to spend the full break in the cabin unless he could persuade his partner to join him there it was at this point he realised that at least one pairing would be a guy and a girl so the would definitely stop him using the cabin.

Electing to go to the nearest book store instead of home, it didn’t take me long to find the selection on Witchcraft. I couldn’t believe how many books there were, some had to do with cursing people, healing, and even sex. How anyone could do Witchcraft while having sex was beyond me, I had seen some shows like Conan the Barbarian where he had been seduced by a Sorceress. But in this day and time I just couldn’t see that happening, there was no such thing as a Sorceress.. Was there??

Picking out a of the books with titles that just seemed to reach out and grab me, I found my selection varying. Several of them were on my suggested reading list so I felt I had made some good choices. Turning back to the shelf I found myself plucking the book of sexual Witchcraft from the shelf. Taking the six books including the sex one to the counter, quickly paying for my purchases. When the girl behind the counter picked up the book on sexual rituals I couldn’t help but feel embarrassed.

“It’s for a school project,” I explain as she puts it in my bag feeling the need for her to understand that I needed the book for research, even though it wasn’t on my list. There were several books in my bag that weren’t on the list, but I was sure that they would be good reading material either way.

Slinging my bag onto my shoulder before heading out the door, I couldn’t wait to get home to my apartment and begin reading. Making a few more stops to buy some groceries and pick up my dry cleaning before heading home.

Ed

When he got back to his room Ed checked the suggested research list against the books he’d already purchased and found that he already had about half of them so he considered he had enough to go on with if Charles insisted on any books he could always get them later.

He was still wondering what to do about the cabin and who he was liable to be paired up with, if it was a guy the could share the cabin as it had two bedrooms as well as a lounge and kitchen.

If it was a girl there would probably be problems as which girl would want to spend weeks miles from anywhere with a virtual stranger even if she would have her own bedroom. The other problem he thought about was the distance they might have to travel to work together during the break.

Although he’d glanced through the books when he’d purchased them he’d been waiting until he got to the cabin before reading them, now with his interest reawakened he started to glance through the various books he’d acquired.

The suggested books all had what he’d call simple spells in them nothing that could cause anybody any harm but the extra ones had things like love spells, control spells that where a lot more interesting but he’d have to wait to see what happened.

He couldn’t wait for the class time to come around the next day and after the moans and groans from the previous day he was surprised to see that everybody had turned up in good time for the class. This was to be the last class of the term as the following day they’d all be heading off to their various summer haunts.

Charles arrived just after they’d all settled down into their seats and took his position at the front of the class.

“I’m glad to see everybody is still interested even though you’ll be expected to do some research over the break and I’ll be testing you on the work next term,” He informed them before he started the class.

Sahara

I couldn’t believe how fast the day had gone by, here it was time for our Witchcraft study once again and the last day before summer break was to begin. Getting to the room in plenty of time I take my seat from the day before, intently watching who for those who I believed wouldn’t show up. Surprised that all of the class was here, including those who I had noticed groaning the day before.

When Charles inters the room everyone quickly takes their seats and quiets down. All of us intently listening as Charles begins talking.

“I’m glad to see everybody is still interested even though you’ll be expected to do some research over the break and I’ll be testing you on the work next term.”

I could hear some of the other students groan again but this time they seemed only half hearted in their protest. Sitting up straighter watching Charles take his place at the front of the class. Shuffling papers this way and that before looking out to us saying, “Today we will set up your partners. Then I have a special guest speaker who will give you facts about the beginning of the Salem Witch trials versus todays Witchcraft studies. Please do take notes for some of this information will be on a test.”

Charles then begins walking between the rows of tables, mumbling slightly to himself, tapping some of the other students and having them rearrange themselves from one desk to another. Before walking up to the front once more with a satisfied look upon his face.

“Now that I have arranged you all this is how your partnership is set up, each team will have one male and one female.” Charles then picks up a sheet of paper from the table in front of him continuing to speak.

“Sahara & Ed, Tammy & Scott, Vicky & Todd, Kayla & Patrick, Tonya & Jay. Those are your partners, I have moved each of those needed to the appropriate seats so that your partners are sitting across from you. Now I shall introduce our guest speaker and then when he is done talking I will give you a bit of time to get to know each other.”

Turning my head to look at my new partner deciding that he was very good looking, with dark brown hair and warm chocolate eyes. I could tell by the shape of his mouth that he had an easy smile and liked to laugh. Which made the idea of being his partner more likeable. Seeing him accessing me as I was him, giving him a quick smile before turning towards the back door.

I see a man walk into the room and make his way to the front greeting us students with a smile and nod of his head. I thought he couldn’t have been much older then any of us, but on closer examination I could see a few telltale signs to suggest that he was older then he looked.

“Class this is Mr. Gavis Rhumra,” Charles says introducing the newcomer. “He is High Priest for the Coven of Shivasloan. And has come here today to speak with us about the History of Witchcraft and the Salem Witch trials along with todays Witchcraft.”

Mr. Rhumra then moves to the front and begins speaking, and before long I find myself fascinated by his knowledge of the Witch trials. He spoke as if he had been there himself, even though I knew he wasn’t old enough. Grabbing my pen and pad I found myself jotting down as much information as I could. Before long the topic changes to that of spells and the possible affects. How important it is to believe in what we are doing and in yourself.

“There are fact based studies to show that the human mind relates what you believe with actual events in your life. So lets say that I want to cast a love spell on these two people here.” Mr. Rhumra’s hand lands on mine and Ed’s desks making me jump and then chuckle in embarrassment. But no one seems to notice as Mr. Rhumra continues to speak, “If they were to believe that I truly cast the spell on them our studies show there would be a very good chance that it would come to pass. But .. and this is a big but.. In casting of any spell you have to mind the rule of three. Which is anything that you do without someone else’s permission it can and will come back to you three fold.”

Looking towards Ed and then up to Mr. Rhumpra a look passes over his face, very fleeing but I could swear that it had been there. Some knowledge he had that we did not, before he finally moves towards the front of the room once more. Speaking as if he had not stopped, shifting his papers around he lifts up a small book and reads..

“The other "Law" of Witchcraft is the "THREE-FOLD LAW OF RETURN". Basically, this is the natural law of "cause and effect". The Goddess charges us to exercise great care in all that we, as Witches, do and say and even think. The Threefold Law takes the notion that "what we reap, we will sow", a few steps further.. in fact, THREE steps further. For what we do "for good or for ill, shall be returned to us threefold." In light of this fact, Witches are loath to cause any harm, lest it be returned to them in spades!!”

Closing his book with a snap Mr. Rhumpra then looks to Charles, who moves forward saying. “Now students your project with all this in mind is to research, write, and prepare a spell of binding. Keep in mind your Three Fold Law, what we are looking for is the facts of how and why it would come to pass as well as if you believe in what you are doing enough to enact and enforce that which you have come up with.”

Charles let us take in the knowledge of what they were asking us before continuing to speak as if this wasn’t something. As if he did this everyday all the time. But to me it was important, could I believe in what I was doing enough to perform a ritual of binding in front of a class full of people I did not know from Adam and Eve?

“Now I would suggest you get to know your partners and since we only have ten minutes left figure out when you will meet to talk. If you have any questions please feel free to ask us.”

Ed

When Charles had finished rearranging everybody I looked across at the stunning blonde girl that was to be my partner for the project she gave me a shy smile but before I could smile back she turned to see who was entering the room.

Charles introduced the newcomer as Gavis Rhumra the High priest of a Coven that got me thinking were there still coven’s around in this day and age and if so what did they do. I’d heard all the rumours about dancing naked around places like Stonehenge in Britain but surely that was just stories made up by people who had no idea what they were talking about.

Ed laughed when Mr Rhumra suggested that suppose as an example he cast a love spell on Sahara and I, seeing Sahara jump and look embarrassed Ed ignored it as if he hadn’t seen it happen. Then he said that if we believed it then there was a good chance that eventually it would happen and then started talking about the rule of three.

For what we do "for good or for ill, shall be returned to us threefold." In light of this fact, Witches are loath to cause any harm, lest it be returned to them in spades!!” Mr Rhumra explained what he meant by the rule of three and closed his book looking at Charles.

“Now students your project with all this in mind is to research, write, and prepare a spell of binding. Keep in mind your Three Fold Law, what we are looking for is the facts of how and why it would come to pass as well as if you believe in what you are doing enough to enact and enforce that which you have come up with.” Charles informed the class waiting a few moments until everybody had time to take in and understand what they’d been told.

Ed was again surprised at how fast the time had gone when Charles said there was only ten minutes left and explained that the pairings had been worked out on our home localities so each person was partnered with someone whose home wasn’t far from their own.

Ed Turned to Sahara and smiled. “Are you going anywhere during the break? I was going to go to my parents cabin in the hills to study but I expect I can forget that now,” he asked her and explained what he’d planned for himself.

“I’ve been collecting books on witchcraft all term from second hand bookshops intending to spend the whole two months reading some of the books are on the suggested list and some aren’t,” he told her. “Have you had chance to get any?” he asked as the bell rang.

“What are you doing tonight can we meet in the stdents bar and talk about the project?” he asked as they started to collect their things together to leave as he here's the others guys suggesting the same thing to their partners.

Ten minutes that’s all we had before summer break began, turning fully in my seat intending to speak to my new partner. He must have had the same idea, since all at once he was talking to me. Asking if I had plans for the summer break and then quickly stating that he had been planning on going to a cabin at the lake. Which is basically what I had been planning was skipping away to the lake for a few weekends.

But before I could explain that I had been planning something along similar lines, he was telling me that he had been gathering books and wanting to know if I had gotten any yet. That surprised me greatly, here I had thought of him being more of the jock type. Granted I hate stereo type idiots me being one at this point of time. It was just that I had seen him a few times at the schools soccer team games. He was good, real good and good looking to top it all off. Just not someone I would have figured to meet in a class about Witchcraft.

Again before getting a word in edge wise he was asking if we could meet at the students bar. And I could hear around us the rest of the group basically doing the same thing. Quickly jotting down my phone number I hand it to him saying, “Ok around 7pm fine with you? And yes I have gathered a small bit of the books along with others I had thought would be interesting reading. As for what I had been planning for summer break, well it was something along the same lines as yours only during the weekends and not in a cabin but in a tent.”

Answering all of his questions before giving him a smile, almost laughing from the sheer shock that I was actually able to get in two words with him. “I have been thinking about studying Witchcraft for some time now, just never really got into it, to many things got into the way. This class gives me a reason to check it out and see what it might be about, although I have to admit I am a skeptic believer. How about you?”

Choosing to listen while I gather my books and such, my mind already making plans on how this summer should go. Knowing though that it wouldn’t, Ed... At least I believed I had heard Charles right earlier. Ed, might just throw some interesting twists into the works for me.

Sticking out my hand for him to shake as I say, “Hi, I’m Sahara James its going to be a pleasure to study with you,” waiting patiently for him to take my hand. Sudden warmth filled my waiting hand almost to hot actually, looking down I see Ed’s hand in mine giving it a firm shake while giving me a smile.

Ed

Ed shook hands with Sahara and smiled sheepishly when he realised that he hadn’t let her get a word in edgeways with his questions and suggestions.

“Hi, I’m Sahara James its going to be a pleasure to study with you,” she said, he hoped that she’d still feel that way after a they’d studied together for a while. He was thinking that it wouldn’t be too bad having to give up the cabin to spend time with her studying.

She was quite a looker with a nice figure and her blonde hair set off her blue eyes nicely she appeared to be the sort of girl all the good looking guys would be chasing but she didn’t appear fazed that she’d be spending time with him.

She’d agreed to meet him around 7pm in the students bar and given him her phone number before he realised that he hadn’t given her his so he quickly scribbled down his parents number and his mobile number and handed the sheet to her.

Turning they walked out of the classroom together following some of the group with the rest behind them the pairs seemed to be going off together so Ed walked with Sahara until he had to get his car.

“Can I give you a lift,” he asked as they came out of the building pointing to his old mustang sitting in the car park. “If not I’ll see you around seven,” he added not wanting to sound as if she had to have a lift off him. For all he knew she had a boyfriend waiting for her and she wouldn’t want to leave him behind.

Sahara

Taking the offered sheet of paper with his numbers on it stashing it in my bag, then quickly following him out the door. All the while wondering how I had gotten so lucky as to have him as my partner. As he goes out the door I can’t help but look at his ass, such a cute ass I think before looking back up to him. Actually as if I had just looked at the floor hoping he hadn’t noticed.

If he did he made no comment nor any actions so that was fine with me, feeling slightly ashamed that I would be checking out my partner. I didn’t even know if he had a girlfriend, someone important to him. That would just be my luck, to be stuck studying with him all summer knowing that he was taken.

As we walked we talked a small bit about the class, until we got outside. Blinking rapidly for a second to give my eyes enough time to adjust to the brightness of the afternoon I hear Ed ask me if I would like a ride. Pointing to a mustang sitting out in the parking lot, it wasn’t a bad looking car and even though my apartment was just a few blocks away the thought of walking out in the heat just wasn’t my idea of fun.

I was just about to accept until Ed seemed to change his mind saying, “If not I’ll see you around seven,” smiling to show him it was ok I answer quickly trying not to show my disappointment.

“Thanks for the offer but I am sure you probably have other things to do. See you around seven then. Bye.” Hurrying down the steps I head down the block wishing the ground could just open up and drop me into it. I didn’t look back just incase anyone was watching, preferring not to see my new partner’s girlfriend. I didn’t cause problems and if I showed that I wasn’t interested, even though I was, it wouldn’t cause any undo problems.

Ed

Ed was surprised when Sahara suggested that he probably had better things to do and he wondered what she meant by that. The only thing that he could think of was that it was a brush off because she had to meet her boyfriend well at least she was going to meet him and the rest of the class later.

Ed drove back to his apartment and started packing everything that was going with him for the summer so that he could make an early start the following day. He started thinking about not being able to spend the summer in the cabin as he’d be studying with Sahara and even as study mates he was sure her boyfriend wouldn’t agree.

Wanting to have a drink in the bar he left his car garaged at his apartment and walked back to the college find some of the class already there it wasn’t until they started passing phone numbers around that Ed remembered that Sahara had given him hers. When he looked at it he realised that it was the same area code as his parents he’d have to ask her about it when she arrived.

One of the girls was making a list of everybody’s phone numbers saying that once she had them all she’d go to the college photocopier and make a copy for everybody so we’d all be able to check with each other on our progress during the break and possibly help one another. Although he had Sahara’s number he didn’t think it was right to give it to the others until she arrived and there was still a quarter of an hour before she was due.

Ed couldn’t believe how well the group of hitherto strangers were getting on after hardly having time to say much to each other during the couple of classes they’d had together and it was obvious that Chas had sorted the pairs out well except for him and Sahara as the other pairs were getting on famously together.

There was still five minutes to go before seven when Sahara walked into the bar alone although Ed did look to see if anybody had been with her just before she entered.

“Can I get you a drink” Ed asked her standing and moving towards her, planning to head to the bar once she’d told him what she wanted where he’d get her drink and a refill for himself.

Sahara

After leaving the school I began to second think what Ed might have meant when he had backed out of asking me if I wanted a ride. It wasn’t like he knew anything about me, so what if he had been thinking I had a ride already. By the time I made it home I felt so bad that I wasn’t sure if I was going to go tonight.

Around 6:30 I had cleaned the whole apartment, thinking about how to back out of the class, even though I really wanted to take the class. Maybe I could just ask Charles to give us different partners, but that made me wonder if that would upset Ed or give others the wrong impression. Something that I honestly didn’t want to do, so here I was confused and worried that Ed would be hurt if I backed out even though I didn’t know nothing about him really.

Deciding it was time, gathering the books I had bought and shoving them in my bag. The drive was a lot shorter then the walk had been earlier that day taking only twenty minutes to get me to the students bar and Ed. I needed to talk to Ed and explain that I had been an idiot earlier, then we could decide if he still wanted to study with me. Having been so worried about everything else I hadn’t taken the time to change my clothing except I had thrown on a t-shirt instead of the polo I had been wearing earlier. It wasn’t like this was a date but I figured the t-shirt would be more casual, jeans were jeans there wasn’t nothing major about them.

Taking a deep breath before climbing out of my little nova, it wasn’t the greatest car. Needing a paint job pretty badly, but it got me from point A to point B without to much problem. Grabbing my bag from the backseat, heading into the bar. Seeing Ed looking good as ever walking my way. God he was good looking and he was my partner, I had gotten lucky with this assignment, and I preyed he hadn’t taken my idioticy to heart earlier.

Looking around I could see that several of our class was here already, all in groups talking about the class. There seemed to be several of them who had made themselves comfortable getting to know everyone with drinks and books everywhere on the tables. I hadn’t been in the students bar but maybe once before at the beginning of school, and that had only been a tour to show us the grounds.

“Can I get you a drink” Ed asked just as he reached me. Seeing that he was carrying a drink in his hand. “Um, sure what ever your drinking sounds good only light on the alcohol content for me please. I’m not really a big drinker,” quickly explaining myself.

Following Ed to the bar seeing that he had been waiting for me by himself. That made me feel better, I didn’t have to meet the girlfriend yet. “Have you been waiting long?” Asking something, just to break the silence between Ed and I. Knowing that I needed to explain to him about earlier soon.

Ed ordered our drinks and motioned towards a table a little away from the chatter of the rest of the students but close enough to the bar that it would be easy access for us. Nodding I head that way sitting down in one of the chairs, before taking the books out of my bag sitting them on the table before me. It wasn’t an impressive stack but more moderate then most I seen around us.

Speaking quickly when Ed joins me needing to get this out of the way, “Hey Ed, about earlier. I didn’t mean to sound rude, it was more along the lines that I was worried about your girlfriend getting upset with you for giving me a ride. But it had nothing to do with you, honest. I just prefer not to cause any situations for anyone if I can help it.”

Now I knew I was rambling but the look on Ed’s face made me continue, “You see I wouldn’t want anyone doing that to me, even though I don’t have anyone to worry about since I am not dating anyone. But as good looking as you are I thought maybe your girlfriend if you have one would get jealous of you giving me a ride.”

Realizing that I had called him good looking shut me up. Blushing furiously for my own slip up. Why had I put it that way, ok so if I messed this up it would have to be pinned on my shirt, ‘Greatest Screw Up’. Taking a sip of my drink to giving myself some courage to handle Ed laughing at me. Coughing just a bit from the flavor of the drink, yes it was good but far from my normal drink. Feeling the warmth of the liquor slide through my blood, I couldn’t have to many of these and drive.

“Thank you for the drink, sorry I should have thought to say that. I seem to get seriously side tracked when I am around you.”

Ed

“Um, sure what ever your drinking sounds good only light on the alcohol content for me please. I’m not really a big drinker,” Sahara replied to Ed’s offer of a drink as he was drinking beer and she’d asked for less alcohol he ordered her a beer topped up with lemonade and followed her to a table slightly away from the rest of the group. She obviously wanted to talk privately for a while before joining the rest of the group.

It seemed that Sahara was as surprised as he was with the pairing as she rambled on as she complimented him on his looks and apologised for not accepting a lift giving the reason that she didn’t want to upset his girlfriend. What girlfriend he asked himself, he was cautious of the girls in college as most of them just wanted to be seen on the arm of a member of one of the college teams to look good.

Then she mentioned that she didn’t have a boyfriend and his heart missed a beat, here he was with a gorgeous girl as his partner and she was as free as he was but he was going to be careful he didn’t want to rush things and spoil it all.

“Thank you for the drink, sorry I should have thought to say that. I seem to get seriously side tracked when I am around you.”

Ed laughed at this causing the others to look around it appeared that she was having the same trouble as he was when they were together, he took a deep breath trying to stop himself from blurting everything out in one go.

“You’re welcome to the drink, and to put your mind at rest I don’t have a girlfriend at the moment,” he said with a wicked smile on his face as he wondered if they’d get together as a couple during their studying together.

“Oh! Just as a point Vicky is collecting the names and telephone numbers of everybody in the group so we can all get in touch with each other during the break if we discover something interesting,” he told her before taking a sip of his drink.

I had been holding my breath without realizing it, waiting for Ed’s response to my outburst so when he laughed I was confused for a moment. Then began to grin Ed’s laugh was rich and I found that I enjoyed listening to it, actually I wanted more of it.. When he looked at me I could see the merriment dancing in his eyes which turned them to the warmest color of brown I have ever seen. This gorgeous guy was my partner, how was I to spend all summer with him.

The minute the thought entered my mind it was like Ed read it putting me more at ease then he knew by telling me, that he didn’t have a girlfriend. So here was this gorgeous guy with no girlfriend sitting across from me, and I was going to get to spend several days and nights with him. Maybe the lecturer had cast a spell on us, and this was just the beginning.

“Oh! Just as a point Vicky is collecting the names and telephone numbers of everybody in the group so we can all get in touch with each other during the break if we discover something interesting.” Ed told me, causing me to change my line of thought. Trying to remember which girl was Vicky. Turning about in my seat scanning the students in the bar finally locating the girl I thought to be Vicky. Bubbling with an ease smile lots of karma, then I remembered her from the cheerleaders squad. Smiling and wavy her direction when I notice her waving towards us heading our way.

Exchanging my phone number with her, promising to call her if we found anything interesting. Then just as quickly Vicky was off and heading for another table across the bar from us.

“I brought my books along with me so that we could maybe compare what we have to the list and see what else we might need. I did look for some of these others at the Book N Shop but found none of the titles there.” Pointing to the list I had produced showing it to Ed as I spoke. “But I did find some others I thought looked interesting and was hoping that maybe they might be of use.”

Shifting the books out on the table I begin sorting them out into smaller stacks, ones of spells and ritual stuff, one of history, one of moon phases, colors and such. “I started browsing through some of these, they all talk about what are the best times for each spell or ritual. Colors and scents looks to have some part in it and the moon phases from what I can tell are very important.”

Picking up one book I shuffle quickly through the pages trying to find something I had found interesting. “Oh and I found the three fold law that Gavis was talking about but there is more to the law, look here.” Holding open the book called Bucklands Complete Book of WitchCraft for Ed to see.

Ed

When Vicky had left and Sahara started talking about the books she’d collected Ed felt embarrassed he hadn’t brought any books with him he’d even his left his list behind. He’d hoped to spend the evening with the group getting to know her better after all they’d only just met and because of the meeting both their summer breaks looked in jeopardy.

As she started to sort her books out in some sort of order his mind wandered as he wondered how he could ask her to go to the cabin with him so they could study undisturbed. Of course it would sound like he was trying to get her alone so that he could try it on with her although that wasn’t his intention.

When she suddenly pushed a book in front of his face saying that there was more to the three fold law than Gavis had told them he came back to Earth feeling really embarrassed as he hadn’t been listening to her.

“I’m sorry,” he apologised. “I was miles away trying to work out how we were going to study and still have some time to relax. I know your area code is the same as my parents but we could spend a lot of time travelling back and forth to each other instead of studying or relaxing,” he told her as a way of explaining his lapse.

“I don’t know how to say this without it sounding wrong as we’ve really only just met but if we’re going to study and enjoy ourselves during the break it would be more sensible if we stayed together. I intended to go to my parents cabin for the break you’re welcome to come with me if you’d like to, it’s got two bedrooms besides a lounge and kitchen and is only 50 yards from the lake.” He suggested.

“I’ve done it again,” he groaned. “Everything seems to come out when I’m with you, I just can’t hold my tongue. I was hoping to get to know you before suggesting that we use the cabin,” he stammered.

Blushing he looked down at the book she’d presented to him. “Just which bit am I supposed to be reading?” he asked as he tried to cover his embarrassment.

“I walked back here knowing I’d have a few drinks so I haven’t brought any books or notes with me,” he explained his lack of books.

Fortunately at this point Vicky arrived back giving them both a sheet of paper with the entire group’s telephone numbers written on it. “Don’t forget to get in touch if you find anything,” she said as she went to give everybody their copy.

Promising to call Vicky if we did come up with anything, I turn back to Ed. He had pleasantly surprised me with his words just before Vicky had appeared. His words had basically almost matched my own and I knew how he must have been feeling. So the question was would I let him off the hook or take him up on his idea for the cabin.

Needing a moment to think, using the Three Fold Law as an excuse I point silently to the part that I wanted Ed to see. Following along with the movements of Ed’s eyes as he reads the part I am wanting him to. Watching him this closely I couldn’t miss how deep of a brown his eyes were, or the fact that he has those long glorious lashes most of us girls would kill for. Ok, so I really liked Ed’s eyes, they were what I thought of as bedroom eyes. Blushing slightly with where my thoughts seem to take me, taking a small sip of the amber colored liquid in front of me, beer the nastiest stuff man ever made in my opinion.

Seeing Ed look up with a bit of a questioning look, “here this is what I really wanted you to see. This part where it says, These Eight Words The Rede FulFill: ‘An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will.’ You know I have always been told that Witchcraft and anything that goes along with it is Evil, Satan’s worship but with reading this I think people just don’t understand most of the laws for Witchcraft. I know this says Wiccan Rede but according to these books its basically the same thing.”

During the whole time of my little speech my mind races wondering how to tell Ed that I would be more then happy to go with him to the lake. I didn’t want to sound like I did this sort of thing all the time. But I honestly wanted to have some time with him, and maybe get to know more about him. Without having to many interruptions, from outside sources, other then studying of course.

Looking up from the book and Ed, when I notice one of the waitresses make her way towards us. Asking if we were ready for refills, giving a slight shake of my head eyeing the almost full mug before me. “None for me thanks, but I would like another for him please.” Shuffling out the appropriate amount of bills and handing them to the girl before Ed can say anything.

Now how was I to tell Ed that I loved his idea about the lake, when he told me about it I could feel my heart jump, I really wanted to go. But did that make me sound bad for wanting to spend time in a cabin with a guy I barely knew. And if I said no what would that do, to our study time and well maybe getting together sometime in the future. So many questions to mull over and no answers.

“Ok, I like your idea about the cabin and the lake, I think your right. It would be a perfect idea to study, it would also give us sometime to get to know one another. But you have to make a deal with me before we actually decide to do this. First we have to bring books,” smiling as I say this to lighten the way some. Seeing Ed’s answering smile and a slight nod of his head let me know that he agreed to the first part and that my humor had broken some of the ice. “Second, you’ll still respect me in the morning?” Letting my smile grow into a grin, I was going to get to spend time with Ed, alone.

Ed

Ed read the page that Sahara had indicated and still wasn’t sure what she was so excited about until she pointed out the bit that said ‘An ye harm none, do what you will’

“You know I have always been told that Witchcraft and anything that goes along with it is Evil, Satan's worship but with reading this I think people just don't understand most of the laws for Witchcraft. I know this says Wiccan Rede but according to these books its basically the same thing." she explained to him.

“I’ve always known there were two sides to witchcraft the black and the white the same as everything in life,” he told her. “The black goes in for sacrifices sometimes animals and for real big magic a human virgin is sacrificed as her virginity is being taken by the high priest. The white has a similar thing but in their case the virgin is willing and the spell is cast as he breaks through her hymen the virgin blood representing the sacrifice instead of her death as in the black side,” he added watching Sahara for her reaction.

As he finished the waitress came over and before he could say or do anything Sahara had ordered and paid for another drink for him surprising him further when she said she liked the idea of the cabin. Was she going to agree to go with him it would be a great help to their study but was she willing to go away with a virtual stranger and risk what that might entail. He smiled when she started talking about making a deal and the fact that they had to take their books with them.

“My books are already packed ready to go into my car in the morning, I had planned to drop in at my parents for the cabin keys and then go straight there but that can be changed,” he told her.

He just managed to stop himself from laughing when she asked that he’d still respect her in the morning and wondered what would happen during the night to stop him respecting her, seeing the grin on her face he realised she was joking to a certain extent.

“It all depends what happens during the night whether I’ll still respect you in the morning,” he replied to her laughing at the look on her face as she realised what he’d implied and it could be taken either way as he hadn’t said anything wrong.

“OK if you’re coming with me we better make plans for tomorrow, do you want to take both cars to the cabin or would you prefer we travel in one?” he asked. “Obviously you’ll want to go home first to collect anything you want with you, so we’d better arrange when we’re going to head to the cabin,” he added and waited for her reply.

Ed’s explanation was serious, he knew what he was talking about and that impressed me. Here I had been thinking that he would have been like most guys and just wanting an easy grade in school or looking to find an easy lay. Even his comments about respecting me in the morning couldn’t have been taken the wrong way, he hadn’t said anything wrong. But the look on his face made my blood warm up and think about what it was that would make him not respect me in the morning.

By the end of the evening we decided that we would meet bright and early, which meant I needed to leave soon so that I could pack some things to take with me. Ed must have been thinking the same thing or at least that’s how it sounded when Ed said, “OK if you’re coming with me we better make plans for tomorrow, do you want to take both cars to the cabin or would you prefer we travel in one?” he asked. “Obviously you’ll want to go home first to collect anything you want with you, so we’d better arrange when we’re going to head to the cabin.”

“Sounds good to me, I like the idea of having both cars this way if need be I can get back into town and you won’t have to bring me. Of course I will need directions there, or I could just follow you out. We could meet somewhere in the morning and head out from there. Either way if we are going to go in the morning early then I am going to have to head out shortly. So that I can pack my up a few things and let my parents know where I am and about how long we are going to be gone.”

Up until this point of time I hadn’t thought about how my parents would react to the idea of me going with a virtue stranger for the summer. What would they think, oh man what would they say? I would just have to call them and explain, and then deal with it as it came at me. I wasn’t willing to give up this chance to get to know Ed better, or to go to the lake for the summer.

After a few minutes of talking a bit more, we both decided that we should meet somewhere close to his parents house. This way we could just leave from there, him leading in his car and I in mine following him.

Writing down the directions as he gives them to me, remembering to add his phone number just incase I screwed up and got lost. Which knowing me would be easy enough to do, I hated driving in areas that I didn’t know. And the address he gave me just happened to be in one of those areas. Great just what I needed, to look stupid in front of him, by getting myself lost.

“Thank you for the evening Ed and I will call you in the morning if need be otherwise eight sounds good to me. But I really need to see about getting home and getting things set up. I have to call my parents and let my neighbors know that I am leaving, I am actually excited about all this.” As I say this I stand gathering my books putting them back into the bag.

Ed

The idea of taking both cars was sound enough for Ed it meant that if either of them needed anything from the nearest town either could go without having to drag the other along. He knew that no matter how well they planned things something would be needed after they arrived at the cabin there was always something that was forgotten in the planning.

They arranged to meet near Ed’s parents home the next day as he had to go there to collect the key to the cabin, he gave Sahara instructions how to get to the parking lot that they would meet in so that she could then follow him to the cabin.

“I am actually excited about all this” Sahara said as she started gathering her books and putting them back in her bag. It wasn’t until then that it hit Ed that he was going to spend most of the summer alone with the gorgeous girl sitting opposite him, she’d said that she was excited that was an understatement for the way he felt at that moment.

As she was gathering the books one slipped out of her hand onto the floor, Ed leant down and picked it up glancing at the title to see if it was one that he’d collected. He gulped as he read the title ‘Sexual Witchcraft’ wondering what was inside but trying to avoid any embarrassment he placed the book on the table near Sahara with the title hidden from him.

Once Sahara had left to pack he joined the rest of the group but couldn’t keep his mind on the general conversation as he wondered why Sahara had a book on Sexual Witchcraft and what it meant or entailed. He’d have to wait and see what she had in mind and what the book contained feeling sure that she’d eventually show to him, maybe she’d just bought it as a laugh and was too embarrassed to point it out to him.

The following morning he was up early and on his way to his parents home to collect the cabin key and some summer clothing for his stay away from home, he had time to call in at a shop that sold candles collecting a dozen of each colour he could find and still had time to get to the lot before it was time to meet Sahara.

Much to his surprise she arrived with ten minutes to spare, he could see that her car was loaded with stuff she thought that she might need while at the cabin.

“Hi Sahara,” he greeted her as he got out of his car when she stopped. “I meant to suggest that we invite the others in the group to the cabin later in the break so we can all compare notes on what we’ve all found but we can do that by phone once we’ve sorted out some things that appear to work,” he added with a smile as he thought about the book he hoped she had in her car.

“We’ve about an hours drive, do you want to have a coffee and something to eat before we leave?” he asked not knowing when she’d eaten.
