Spell/Grammar Check Program

I have a couple of thoughts. Since I still have not mastered the art of posting more than one quote (having botched that now a couple of times) I'm just going to do it the old school way:

Little apostrophe icon to the right of the quote icon bottom right of the post. Just click on that as you read through the chain and all are preserved when you finally hit post reply icon.

PS you have to be logged in to see it.
PPS it changes colour when you click on it so you know what posts you're quoting.

Could you explain that in more detail? I didn't know how to do this either and have been doing this manually. I have tried using that icon and can't figure out what I'm supposed to do.

Thanks to LAHomeDog to asking something I've meant to ask!

That's the Multi-quote function. If you click that on one or more posts throughout a thread and then click on Post Reply (bottom left of the thread) it will drag all the selected messages into the text editor for you. You'll know you've done it right before you hit Post Reply when the plus sign on the bottom right of the multi-quote icon turns to a minus sign (and it might turn vaguely orange-coloured).

(and it might turn vaguely orange-coloured).

Could you be more vague about how vaguely orange-colored (Ops coloured) the icon gets?

Just jabbing you in the ribs, though explaining it's a joke is a little counter intuitive. Like the comedians that have to laugh at there own joke as they it to let the audience know they can laugh. Unlike them, I'm just try to avoid being a total jerk.

If you click that on one or more posts throughout a thread.

I read this several times, and I guess I'm not firing on all cylinders today, because I don't know what this means. I understand what the icon is for but I don't know how to use it.

Say I want to post a separate response to each of the separate sentences in your post. How exactly do I use this icon to do that?

Down in the right hand corner on every post there are three icons. First one is quote. Second one has some apostrophes at the top and a plus symbol at the bottom. Almost looks like a face. As you scroll through a thread simply click on that icon and it will turn colour. You can click on it for as many posts as you want to respond to.

When you're ready hit the post reply on the bottom left and all the posts you selected will show up to be responded to. Try a couple for shit and giggles.

Only use it when you want to respond to more than one post in a thread. Otherwise, it's no different than the quote button.

PS when you hover over the button it gives a popup that says Multiquote This Message.

.

Simon is being extra stupid today. It happens.

I honestly do not understand what these words mean.

I see the icon.

I click on it and it turns orange.

Now what?

I'm looking at your post, and say I want to make a response to each sentence separately.

I don't understand what your sentence above is telling me to do.

If I want to respond to two different posts in my post, what do I do?

I don't know how to use this icon.

..
Don't know about your grammar, but your 1st post seriously stretched the screen. Go to the bottom of your page and choose new paper format. :nana:
strangely enough this post looks fine.

Now find another post and click on that. It will also turn orange. Scroll to the bottom of the page. On the left bottom side you see the post reply button. Click on that. Both posts will show up EXACTLY like the quote posts show up.

You can then respond to both.

Sample: NOTE* I changed the quote bracket so you can see the posts as you see them when you use the quote button.

And you can post your response between the posts you quoted.

I must be setting stupid records today. I apologize. You're trying to be helpful.

"Find another post and click on that" -- what does that mean, to click on a post? I'm looking at your post. What does it mean to click on it?

If I click on the quote icon it turns orange. I don't know how to do anything else that makes anything turn orange. Nothing I do makes a post turn orange.

I'm using Chrome, by the way, on a PC desktop. I don't know if that makes any difference.

Think in concrete terms. In front of me is a monitor with a post on it. My fingers are on a keyboard. One hand is on a mouse.

What does one do?

Click on the multi-quote icon I described down in the right side of the bottom of each post. You're doing it right. Now pick another post and click on that posts multi-quote button.

Once you have as many posts as you wish to respond to scroll down to the bottom of the page and on the left side there is a post reply button. Just click on it and any post you clicked the multi-quote icon will show.

Did this with chrome BTW. No difference at all.

Here is me literally multi-quoting this thread.

I attempted doing a couple of previews to show what it looked like, but for some reason the first quoted passage kept breaking every time I went into the Preview mode, so I don't know what's going on there.

But, otherwise, this should work.

Hope that helps clear up some confusion.

EDIT: Weird. Multi-quoting keeps breaking the reply, removing the first QUOTE tag. Huh.

Only the icon turns orange not the post.

If it's my quote I broke the quote tags with a different bracket so Simon could see the underlying HTML on the post. Otherwise it just shows the post with Quote above it when you hit submit reply.

You'd need to replace the { with [ again to get rid of it.

Bloody hell, I've been here since 2014, and that's the first time I've tried that. That's pretty clever, so let's hope poor Simon can figure it out - your instructions were precise enough for an Australian to follow ;).

To put all quotes together, you must finally quote the 'main' post just the way you always do, and then, if all goes well, the other posts are also included.

This is what it looks like
multiquote_on.gif
when the 'multi-quote' button is selected.

Now I learned something. I've been scrolling to the end of the page to use the reply button. Never thought of trying the quote button after multiquoting.

You are not alone. I also read through it again and I'm still lost. I guess we will have to enroll in a remedial course in the Multi-Posts Button.:)

You gotta push those buttons like I did. Now that I know how I can momentarily look at a few Americans quizzically, maybe get some short term mileage at their expense, then never use it at all :).

OK. One remedial course coming up. The teacher is IN :D

Read a post. Want to respond. Click on the Multi-Quote button. It turns orange.

Read the next post. Want to respond. Click on Multi-Quote Button. Again it turns orange.

Want to write responses. Click on the quote button or scroll to the bottom of the page and hit the respond button.

Response page pops up just like it does with the quote button except this time it will have two quotes on it.

Write your response just like normal. You can write between the two posts.

Now what?

Forget the Multi-Quote part for this.

I'm looking at your post, and say I want to make a response to each sentence separately.

Select to highlight the sentence you want to quote and reply to. Above the reply box, you'll see some icon. Click on the Quote button:
quote.gif
The text you highlighted is now magically wrapped in BBCode Quote tags.

I don't understand what your sentence above is telling me to do.

That part is describing MultiQuote.

If I want to respond to two different posts in my post, what do I do?

I don't know how to use this icon.

The other posts are describing that function.

You people are great! And extremely patient.

I'm going to look this over and play with this. I think some, but not all, of my questions have been answered, but I'm going to play with this before making more of a fool of myself.

Hey, if you really want to get funky, mulit-quote a bunch of posts, then highlight and quote separate lines in each of them.
