I have always though my limited education had made me the worlds worst person at spelling and grammar.

Then I was referred to spell check.

How this piece of rat shit continues to be recommended is beyond me.

Can anyone recommend a system that speaks and writes english.

Spell check is only good for "AOL kids". Tou know, the ones who theink they are leet and post on message boards with such garbage like this:

OMG ONG WYF???!!!1!!11!2 I TTALLY PWNED U!!!

Spell chick well sometimes hep you catch typos butt not always. If the error is a reel word, their is nothing spell check kin do. I twill help butt you have to edit with you're eyeballs to.

Grammar check totally sucks and you are probably better off without it.

This post includes eleven errors and spell check wouldn't catch any of them.

A spell-checker is to be used under the control of human intelligence.

A grammar-checker is to be used under the control of human intelligence and a great amount of patience.

Spell-checker and grammar-checker are tools, just as much as a dictionary, a pencil, or a notepad. If you don't know how to use them, don't blame it on the equipment.

PS: Hi, Abs. ;)

I'm afraid there isn't a thing. In the old days, on XTs, you got to watch the spell checker in WordStar compare laboriously each word to its list of words. They work the same way now, but you can't see the bones move.

AI parsers may well develop into something better, contextual spell checkers and sentence parsers with a knowledge of T-G grammar to work from, perhaps. Nothing commercial yet. On the other hand people do very well at that kind of thing, and English majors are notorious for being out of work in their "field." ;)
