A poster named Extremesexonly posted a story to the story file today, "Trip Money," which is a verbatim repeat of a 2006 Literotica story of mine. Didn't even change the title. My thanks to "anonymous" for finding this, putting a comment on Extremesexonly's version, and notifying me by e-mail (I have reported it to Laurel and Manu and the offending story and "author" have already been taken down). I don't expect the editors to catch this sort of thing, but it's great when the readers do.

And can you get any more stupid than to repeat a story, not even changing the title, on the same site it originally appeared on?

On the other hand, I suppose I should be flattered. The stolen version had already been favorited when I saw it--and someone remembered a story of mine from seven years ago.

LOL, that really takes the pancake!

At least it's doing well. Again.

What an idiot, and how annoying.

Yes it's doing well. Far better than if it was posted under my name (which tells you something). It's still listed (I just checked) and already has a red H behind it. "Someone" here doesn't let stories under my name go hot.

I can't understand why someone would do this. When you write or create something, even if it's only half good, you take pride that you spent the effort and created something worth reading.

I would feel like absolute shit to know I posted someone else's story as my own. Forget about how that makes the poor sap I stole it from feel, or his/her fans, I couldn't sleep at night.

Bravo to you and your fan for weeding out a bit of the crap.

What an odd thing for an anonymous someone to do.

You mean to point out that the story was ripped off? The one who ripped the story off had an account name--and another listed story. Wonder whose that is. (It's still there, by the way.)

I think what impresses me most is that the thief goes right to hot here with one of my stories but I don't. I think I'll remember that and bring it up the next time "someone" attacks my story ratings here on the forum.

Really? I mean: Really?

Uh yeah. Really. Believe it or not, there are still people who can't wrap their head around someone that is low enough to take credit for something they didn't do. I understand their motive, but I don't understand how they can look at themselves and think, "hell yeah this is great. Can't believe how smart I am."

So yeah, really.

That really is interesting. The FAWC may reveal some further interesting fawcts.

Anyway, sorry it happened to you, albeit giving you some intriguing information. :rose:

No, odd for someone to make an an anonymous account and submit a stolen story.

Why don't you post your stories under a different name and see how they do. :D

I post at Literotica under several names. (I'd say that if all my Literotica stories were put together under one name I'd be on the top 10 producers list--like Freddie occasionally says, and is probably right--except that I'm already on the top 10 producers list as sr71plt :D) Some accounts have only straight stories. Some accounts do far outstrip the average rating of sr71plt. Doesn't surprise me a bit. Those account names don't post to the forum.

I choose the different accounts more to keep some genres completely separate than because of the ratings. I'm not so insecure in my writing as to think that ratings on a site like Literotica are going to be a good reflection of my writing abilities--because so much of the voting is backstabbing for one reason or the other. Nor do I think "someone" attacking my writing on the forum has anything to do with my writing ability.

I post here because of the high volume of readership. I keep my genres separate like this in the mainstream too, where I publish under several names. Sr71plt is primarily for GM stories. I publish in volume in most other categories under this name mostly to have a good laugh of those who say I only write GM.

I think I understood where Extremesexonly made his mistake. Everywhere else I post my sr71plt GM stories under the name habu (Literotica wouldn't give me that name at registration--the connection is made in my profile here, though). I assume Extremesexonly checked author names here, didn't find habu, and thought it was safe to steal and post. Maybe when he comes back on under another name, he'll shy away from my stories.

I know of a story that was plagerized practically word for word that is still on the site. Funny thing is, under the "similar stories" list, the original is listed.

So, thanks for explaining and not being rude about it or anything.

Did you report it? The response from the Web site was almost instantaneous when I reported this.

Years ago, I had some dummy repost one of my stories as one of their own. My name was still under the title in the main body of the story.

Needless to say, it never reached the light of day. The only reason I even know about it was the PM I got from Laurel saying what a laugh she got out of it.

I reported it as did several others. My only thought is that maybe the changed names and added paragraph made it legit.

I recognise that name 'habu'.
You really a sled-driver ?

About [god I feel old] years back, a friend of mine who had a small poetry website complained that somebody else had pinched one of her poems and was passing it off as her own.

The thief had a big fancy website with dozens of poems and over a hundred artworks. As far as I could tell, every single one of those was stolen with some minor changes. All the artworks were on the same theme but in very different styles; this was before image search was a thing, but I managed to confirm at least a couple as not-hers.

It got weirder: she had an "awards" section, listing other websites that had given her awards for her work. When I checked, none of those other sites had actually done so - she'd just faked up the banners etc. She'd also faked membership of various artsy webrings (does anybody else remember what a webring was?)

So, yeah, some people will go to a LOT of trouble to get credit for someone else's work, even under an anonymous ID. Interesting bit of pathology there.
