Speaking of hockey...Wayne Gretzky is the BEST!

the problem I have with the above statement is the word "Canada's". Wayne Gretzky is THE hockey ambassador, no matter which country you are talking about.

He IS the best EVER, no doubt about that.

I might add that his wife is from the city I live in, and NOT too far from where I live, about 10 miles actually. It was fun being able to see them out on the town when he played here for all of 4 months. Not many nicer guys than hockey players.

Did anyone see his interview after the game yesterday? Talk about laying it on the line...He says what he feels in no uncertain terms. He is Canada's Ambassador to hockey...that is for sure!

And as he said...I sure would hate to play against those players that did the cheap shots when the NHL starts again. Payback is a bitch!

I love Wayne Gretzky, and he certainly lives up to being a noticeable ambassador to the sport of ice hockey.

However, while I don't blame him for being worked up about how Team Canada has been playing, and how certain "foreign" players get away with "cheap" shots, I think part of his outburst was very unsportsmanlike. I think the Canadian media has put a tremendous about of pressure on this squad, but Gretzky has handled quite a bit throughout his career and I personally didn't expect some of his remarks to be so unprofessional.

I was surprised his quotes included remarks like "Americans don't like us"! Perhaps it's his attempt to fire up his team, but pointing out that he "wouldn't want to be at the Islander-Ranger game next week" because of the retaliation was bush league as well.

Let's face it, he has nothing to do with the upcoming game, and I guarantee Fleury and the Rangers will NOT be wasting the game trying to get back at anyone while they're struggling to make a playoff spot!

Chill out a bit, Wayne! Keep your annoyance at the other "stars" on your squad that don't have the same drive and desire you always showed with every game you played!

I totally agree, Jenny. I really thought his comments were out of character. Perhaps it was just to get Team Canada fired up but, yeah, he needs to chill.
