The Spanish Prisoner scam was X is held captive by the Spanish. If you pay one hunded guineas to ransom him, he will lead you to his treasure of thousands of guineas and you can have half.
The new version is that X is held in an African jail. If you pay a bribe, he can go free and you can have half the contents of his Swiss bank account..
My wife received two such emails today. She sent them straight to spam, but...
I get daily police reports. Two or three local people a month fall for this scam and lose thousands of pounds, yet people don't learn.
Stupidity and greed are manna to gangsters.
