Does Spanish Fly really work?
If so how does it work?
Are there any side effects or dangers?

as far as I know, spanish fly doesn't make you horny. But almost as if you have this itch you can't sate... and thus the whole "i haveta touch it!!" plus it gets inflaimed and all that.

its a hoax.

Spanish fly does not work. According to urbanlegends.com;

Spanish Fly (pulverized blister-beetles) contains cantharides, which can cause physical arousal of a sort, by irritating the urinary tract when ingested and excreted. But dig this: it was used in the mid-19th century to treat pleurisy. Applied to the skin, it created blisters 12 by 6 inches in size, which (it was erroneously thought) beneficially drew liquid away from the lungs. You want that *inside* your ureter?

In Victorian England there were several cases of manslaughter or malicious poisoning by means of Spanish Fly. In one, Regina v. Hennah, 1877, in which the victim didn't die, the defendant was acquitted because no intent to harm was proved.

In more recent times, and more legitimately, the active ingredient in Spanish Fly was used medicinally to dissolve external warts.

Most ads you see for spanish fly these days call it "Ersatz" Spanish Fly. "Ersatz" means;

Being an imitation or a substitute, usually an inferior one; artificial

Currently while certain compounds do seem to effect some people. And certain smells do seem to have some effects on people, there is no known universal aphrodiasiac.

Some of the Pharmaceutical companies are working on a woman's version of Viagra, but most doctors specializing in human sexuality say that while these compounds look promising for stimulating the body's arousal systems, they do nothing to effect desire.

Taking a drug to affect your sexual performance should be voluntary. So if they can't do anything to instill desire, then getting turned on is like the morning woody due to needing to take a piss. Personally I would want my wife to make love to me because she knows she will enjoy it and looks forward to the orgasms I can give her. Having to take a drug to get into the mood would be a bit of a mood killer I think. As much as I love her, I'd rather have no sex than sex just because I either slipped her a drug or I talked her into taking it herself.
