CAPE CANAVERAL (AP) — The replacement for NASA's aging space shuttles may take off like a plane, be propelled by booster rockets that fly back to Earth and, in one of the more radical moves, eliminate pilots.

March 2, 2001 — After spending more than $1 billion in an attempt to develop a next-generation reusable spaceplane, NASA will terminate funding for two promising, but overbudget, experimental vehicles and shift its attention to new launch technology proposals.

That first one looks like a sex toy.

What the response and feasibility of these proposals has shown is that the Shuttle system was a pretty solid piece of engineering.
 
Ya know.....Im not totally convinced that we should be spending this kind of cash, and the kind of cash N.A.S.A spends in general in space.

Spend my money here...where I live.
 
Right....see how antiquated my place is......I could buy the Queen Elizabeth 2 for 500 million.
 
When I was a lad, I thought "Delta" wings sounded really cool and futuristic.

Then I learned it means "triangle shaped".
 
they should do the space lift ... a concept that arthur c clake came up with (he also invented the geo sync satellite)


it would cost loads but after that you've got a free way to get into orbit with no danger

lol i just like the idea that he did :) or that they will turn into real inventions

the space lift thing is cool though you must admit :)
