I was born in west Texas as well, and am now in the Austin area but hopefully this will change soon. Not that I dont like Austin, it's just not right for me personally.

Really? From my experiences with Austin, it's always struck me as a very liberal, relaxed, and thankfully GREEN city. Plus it has Freebirds. What have you found?

I'm from CA, lately southern CA. So I'm not from "The South" DH hails from Texas and Virginia. It's really bad, but I picked up alot of his drawl, especially when we're both drinking. I speak what I hear and it drives me nuts!

I live in Paradise...halfway between Austin (liberal, great food, great music - loud-n-rowdy austin sound, great people) and Houston (mostly conservative assholes but still, great food, great music - blues, great shopping!!).

Ok, there's way to many Texans here so I have to even the odds a little.

Waves to my neighbors south of the red river. Yep, you got it! I'm an Okie gal.

Great music, theatre, food, culture, entertainments of all kinds. With the added benefit that it doesn't get as hot here as it does there. Friendly folks that still wave as they drive down the street. People who stop to help if you've had car trouble and if lost, can give great directions and a few helpful hints of places of interest along the way.

You not only don't mind or notice standing 15 minutes in the checkout line with only one person ahead of you who is busily gabbing with the store clerk, in fact, you join their conversation.

Resting or sleeping is prefaced by "I feel a bit tard."

It seems perfectly natural to smile at, laugh with, or joke around with complete strangers at least 10 times daily.

So true... I did some volunteer work in San Diego, had a guy from cali rooming with me. I found myself contantly grabbing him, because he powerwalked everywhere. I finally stopped him, looked him in the eye, and said "I'm a carolina boy, we got all the time in the world, and dammit, we're going to move at a southern pace"
