Soulless

Lydia was facinated by this man. He was so passionate about his work. She knew the moment he figured out what happened. His adrenaline started pumping as he reanacted the whole incident. She could smell him, could sense all he felt. She wished she wasn't one of the creatures he hated or she might have said hi to him. Instead she was forced to watch from a distance and admire him. Her thoughts scared her. Lydia was curious about everything but she never allowed herself to get attached. This time was no different. She couldn't allow herself to feel anything personal to the hunter. He was only an object to observe and learn about. As long as she kept it to that then everything would fine. Pushing her thoughts away she walked farther down the roof to get a closer look.

Alex looked left and then right and sniffed the air, wondering what where the person that he had been following earlier had gone and then he picked up her scent with a smile. He had caught sight of her red hair half an hour later and she had given him the slip and he wondered if she knew that he was there but then he realized that there was no way that was possible. He suddenly saw a flash of hair and moved quickly towards it just to see her start to run. He stopped and watched her run off totally shocked- she did know that he was following her.

He ran down the road until he saw a fire escape on the side of a building and with a quick move jumped up onto it without a sound. As soon as he was up he moved to the top of the roof and ran around to the edge then sniffed the air- there she was!

"A calling card," h gave a haughty laugh, but it barely managed to escape him before he caught it. As he stood there in the dead street, shadows already playing along the walls, he could see that the poor woman had died without knowing a thing about her attacker.
The evidence here came to a bare minimum, nothing like that of the last one. Just a body to reckon with, not even a few drops of blood. This had been precise, and clean.
Something he almost admired, had it not been for the gruesome nature of the thing.
He thought it to be a calling card. The anatomy of a vampire had not been well know, even to hunters. They were as mysterious as the very nature o the beast itself, but in that own context, even the rashest person knew a vampire only needed one victim to stay satisfied.
This person had drained two, in the same night, within a few miles from each other.
He hadn't fed his hunger, he drew a line in the sand, and waited for anyone to cross it.
he had his work cut out for him.
WRiting furious in his notebook, he made his way back into his car again. Nothing else was here, and since no more victims had been counted, he was done for a little bit. Later in the night, he wanted to check out on more lead. For the time behind however, he wanted a nice hot bowl of chili.
Lucky for him, he knew the one place in town that had the best.

Lydia watched him get in his car and leave the scene. Ignoring her common sense that said to stop why she was ahead she began following his car. She couldn't explain why but it was important to her that she help him in some way. In which way she wasn't sure.

Alex watched the woman and smiled as she stood there and looked around, obviously trying to find him. He stood there for a second and wondered how it was that she knew he was following her when it was strange for any mortal except those annoying hunters to track his movements. She began to walk again and Alex's smile widened when he saw a dark area that she had to walk through.

He moved quickly and waited for her- listening to her footsteps as she came closer to where he waited. Before she even had a chance to scream he struck with such ferocity, something he had never done before and almost ripped into her neck- he wanted her blood that much.

Joe's Diner in the heart of the city. A nice place if you only had a buck and wanted whatevever sort of food to be filled with grease. It was crummy, old, and looked as though it should be condemned.
It had horrible coffee, day old doughnuts, and the waitress coughed in just about everything she served.
If they didn't have the best chili, he would probably never set foot in the place.
Ever so often, when he had some of the bigger cases bug him, he went to get a cup of chili. Something to warm him up inside, keep the safety of humanity close at hand.
If humans could make this good a chili, they deserved to be saved.
"A bowl of the best."
An elder woman, already coughing nodded, as he slipped himself into a booth.
Night outside.
He let his head drop into his hands, as he waited.

Lydia had come to a decision. She had the power to mask her true self from a hunter if she really concentrated. She did this as she cautiosly entered the diner. Forcing her gaze to remain away from the hunter she sat at an empty table in the corner. She ordered a cup of coffee settling down in her seat. Her gaze slipped to the hunter his head was in his hands as he awaited his order. She would approach him and help him with his investigation. She didn't know why she wanted to so badly but something inside her urged her to and she wasn't one to deny her impulses. Finally working up the courage and keeping a careful mask on her true self she approached his table. Sitting down across from him she smiled somewhat hesitantly when his head came up to look at her. "Hello, I'm Lydia"

"Lydia?" He smiled, looking back over his shoulder for a moment, wondering if she was talking to someone else. No one was behind him, or her for that matter. They had the place to themselves, except for the elderly waitress, still taking her time with his famous chili.
"Hello," he extended his hand, warm and courteous. Hunting vampires hadn't take away his knowledge of being kind, especially to a young lady.
"Here ya are," he had a heaping bowl of chili placed next to him, steam still rising off of it. The waittress glanced at the woman for a second, pondering.
"Oh, umm," he was taken back, "If you want just order something. To tell you the truth, only thing decent here is the chili."
The waittress gave him a stern look that both said, that was rude, but you are right at the same time. He leaned down to his food, taking his first bite as he lett he woman order.
"Can I help you with something?" He asked, as soon as the waittress left with the order. She seemed to be looking at him funny, like she wanted something from him. Her clothes didn't make her look like a vagrant, so not money. Too old to be a runaway or something.
His mind already running a mile a minute, curious about her. He took another bite and let those curiousities flush away. In truth, he was just getting down from work mode, implications and deductions, and he was still a bit jittery.
The chili helped.

Lydia noticed his slight wariness and curiousity. She felt a moment of panic that he would sense her as a vampire, she shook her head she was strong enough to cloak herself even against this powerful hunter. She sat down politely declining his offer for her to order something. She could eat food but it usually gave her a stomach ache. She smiled charmingly at him finding it easy to smile at him. That thought almost made her frown. Her mind was really just a mess right now. The best thing to do is act like another friendly face. "I've revealing my name sir. May I have yours?" her gaze was genuinely interested as she crossed her legs.

He grabbed for a napkin, wiping away a few morsels that stuck to his lips, glancing up at her for a moment. That sounded strange. He shook his head, unsure as to her visit with him.
Was she just looking for someone, or was she looking for him in particular.
"In my line of work, giving a name out is considered ver valuable. It is treasured, like a gift. If I get to know you better, I will tell you."
He took another hearty bite of chili.
"Not that I don't trust you, per say, just some people out there. The world is crawling with weirdo's and I'm just one of them."
He wiped his mouth again, looking back at her.
"You didn't just want to know my name, did you?"

Lydia bit her lip indecisive. She hadn't thought of to this point. What was she supposed to say to him? Hi how are you I'd like to help you catch this crazed vampire killer? She almost laughed at how absurd that sounded. If she revealed that she knew who he was he would definitly be suspicious of her. However that was exactly why she decided to talk to him and she refused to back out now. Staitening she met his gaze directly "You are very observant. Of course I suppose you would have to be that way in your line of work. I'm going to cut to the chase, I know what you are. You are a hunter are you not? You are investigating a murder because the victem was somehow drained of their blood. I cannot tell you how I know all this but I would like to help you catch this killer. I believe that in the end you will find my aid useful." there she did it. Taking a deep breath she awaited his reply.

He took another bite, glancing at her again through new eyes now. For a moment he bit his lower lip, taking a good look at her. She had to have followed him. No one would talk at the station, that old guy was loyal. He liked that about the elderly, they knew their business.
So, she had to have followed him.
And she has to have some sort of interest in this case, or him, or both.
"Two bowls of chili," he said, finishg up his own.
He moved the bowl into the center of the table.
"You know the kind of business I'm in, so you can understand why I'm a bit weary. The last person that said he wanted to help me tried to kill me with a buzz saw. Had my hand laid down on one of those rocking horse things, and nearly took it off. You can understand."
He played with a black ring on his hands, wiggling it back and forth for no apparent reason.
"Perhaps if you told me a little bit more about yourself Lydia. I do enjoy listening to stories, and I think you have a few I might be interested in."
The chili came. The woman dropping one in front of him, and one in front of her.
"You are going to eat the bowl of chili, and tell me a little bit about yourself; for two reasons. First, I need to know if you're a vampire, and secondly, I need to know if you are a good liar."
He held up his spoon, digging in.
"Bon appetite."
Excellent chili.
