I think "College" is definitely one of the best episodes. It shows how Tony tried to tapdance around the fact that he's a mobster with his family, while at the same time showing that he is in fact a killer. There was an article in the New Yorker about the show and David Chase said that when the HBO execs saw this episode, they said they loved it, except for the part where Tony kills the guy. They asked Chase to cut it, and he said, the whole point is that Tony IS a killer. Chase said that if he had to cut it he'd quit the show. HBO backed down, thank the Gods.
Other best episodes...the one where Dr. Melfi is raped was one of the most disturbing things I've ever seen on TV. And the last scene, where Tony asks if she wants to tell him something, and Melfi could tell Tony what happened and no doubt have the rapist murdered, and instead there's this long pause...and Melfi says, "No", and the screen goes black...that was brilliant stuff.
I think the whole show is brilliant, but "College" is WITHOUT A DOUBT THE BEST!!!!!!! It's plot is just SO simple. I CAN'T believe they wanted to cut the death scene. It wasn't even all that graphic. Well, what I mean is, there wasn't any blood.
