Golden Dream

America, spread your golden wings
Sail on freedom's wind, across the sky.
Great bird, with your golden dreams
flying high, flying high.

Restless one in a world of change,
keeping dreams aloft in the rain.
Spirit free, soaring through the clouds
of time, of time.

America, you must keep dreaming now
Dreaming the promised vow of your pioneers
America, keep on flying now.
Keep your spirit free.
Facing new frontiers.

America, spread your golden wings
Sail on freedom's wind across the sky.
Great bird with your golden dreams,
Flying high, flying high,
Flying high, flying high!

This is the song which ends The American Adventure show at Epcot in Walt Disney World. For those of you who have seen it, don't you just love that gradual sunrise and this song at the end? Very patriotic- I've never made it through the show without getting a tear in my eye.

MAMA, I'M COMING HOME

Times have changed and times are strange
Here I come , But I ain't the same
Mama, I'm Coming Home
Times gone by seem to be
You could have been a better friend to me
Mama, I'm Coming Home
Took me in and you drove me out
Yeah, you had me hypnotized
Lost and found and turned around
By the fire in your eyes
You made me cry, told me lies
But, I can't stand to say goodbye
Mama, I'm Coming Home
I could be right, I could be wrong
Hurts so bad, it's been so long
Mama, I'm Coming Home
Selfish love yeah we're both alone
The ride before a fall
But I'm gonna take this heart of stone
I just got to have it all
I've seen your face a hundered times
Everyday we've been apart
I don't care about the sunshine, yeah
'Cause Mama, Mama, I'm Coming Home
I'm Coming Home
You took me in and you drove me out
Yeah, you had the hypnotised
Lost and found and turned around
By the fire in your eyes
I've seen your face a hundered times
Everyday we've been apart
I don't care about the sunshine, yeah
'Cause Mama, Mama, I'm Coming Home
I'm Coming Home

I Can't Make You Love Me

Turn down the lights, turn down the bed
Turn down these voices inside my head
Lay down with me, tell me no lies
Just hold me close, don't patronize - don't patronize me

CHORUS: Cause I can't make you love me if you don't
You can't make your heart feel something it won't
Here in the dark, in these lonely hours
I will lay down my heart and I'll feel the power
But you won't, no you won't
'Cause I can't make you love me, if you don't

I'll close my eyes, then I won't see
The love you don't feel when you're holding me
Morning will come and I'll do what's right
Just give me till then to give up this fight
And I will give up this fight

CHORUS: Cause I can't make you love me if you don't
You can't make your heart feel something it won't
Here in the dark, in these lonely hours
I will lay down my heart and I'll feel the power
But you won't, no you won't
'Cause I can't make you love me, if you don't

The Day the World Went Away by Nine Inch Nails

I'd listen to the words he'd say
but in his voice i heard decay
the plastic face forced to portray
all the insides left cold and grey
there is a place that still remains
it eats the fear, it eats the pain
the sweetest price he'd have to pay
the day the whole world went away

*NOTE*: this song is over 6 minutes long, thus it is mostly instrumental, and the music really adds a lot to the sad feel of the song

This song always makes me cry :(

You're Gone

I said hello I think I’m broken
And though I was only jokin’
It took me by surprise
when you agreed
I was tryin’ to be clever
For the life of me I never
Would have guessed how far
the simple truth would lead
You knew all my lines
You knew all my tricks
You knew how to heal that pain
No medicine can fix

And I bless the day I met you
And I thank God that He let you
Lay beside me for a moment
that lives on
And the good news is I’m better
For the time we spent together
And the bad news is you’re gone

Lookin’ back it’s still surprisin’
I was sinking you were rising
With a look you caught me
in mid-air
Now I know God has His reasons
But sometimes it’s hard
to see them
When I awake and find
that you’re not there
You found hope in hopeless
Your made crazy sane
You became the missing link
That helped me break my chains

And I bless the day I met you
And I thank God that He let you
Lay beside me for a moment
that lives on
And the good news is I’m better
For the time we spent together
And the bad news is you’re gone
And the bad news is you’re gone

Yesterday by The Beatles makes me cry, because of things that has happened in my life and it just hits me sometimes.

YESTERDAY
By John Lennon and Paul McCartney

YESTERDAY,
ALL MY TROUBLES SEEMED SO FAR AWAY,
NOW IT LOOKS AS THOUGH THEY'RE HERE TO STAY,
OH, I BELIEVE IN YESTERDAY.

SUDDENLY,
I'M NOT HALF THE MAN I USED TO BE,
THERE'S A SHADOW HANGING OVER ME,
OH, YESTERDAY CAME SUDDENLY.

WHY SHE
HAD TO GO I DON'T KNOW, SHE WOULDN'T SAY.
I SAID,
SOMETHING WRONG, NOW I LONG FOR YESTERDAY.

YESTERDAY,
LOVE WAS SUCH AN EASY GAME TO PLAY,
NOW I NEED A PLACE TO HIDE AWAY,
OH, I BELIEVE IN YESTERDAY.

WHY SHE
HAD TO GO I DON'T KNOW, SHE WOULDN'T SAY.
I SAID,
SOMETHING WRONG, NOW I LONG FOR YESTERDAY.

YESTERDAY,
LOVE WAS SUCH AN EASY GAME TO PLAY,
NOW I NEED A PLACE TO HIDE AWAY,
OH, I BELIEVE IN YESTERDAY.

16: Waking Up Beside You

I've been so alone for so long
forgotten by the world
forgotten to myself
your effervescent eyes have awakened me
and brushed the dust away...
but i knew you'd never stay

so i memorized the color of your eyes
as i lost myself inside you
and i memorized the way our legs entwined
as i drifted of beside you
i miss
god i miss waking up beside you

at night i cling to you i'm so afraid
afraid the day will come
and i'll wake up and find you gone
but you promise that you'd not abandon me
and then kissed my fears away
but i woke up to that day

but i memorized the way our eyes would meet
reflected off the bathroom mirror
and i memorized your naked silhouette
as you slowly brushed your hair
i miss
god i miss waking up beside you

i've been alone for so long
i forgot how much it hurts to wake up so alone

but i'd memorized how warm your body felt
as you lay half asleep beside me
and i memorized the way the sunlight filled the room
and played upon your body
i miss
god i miss waking up beside you

Too many to list.

But have gone through quite a few of them lately.

Its So Hard To Say Goodbye To Yesterday

How do I say goodbye to what we had?
The good times that made us laugh
Outweigh the bad.

I thought we'd get to see forever
But forever's gone away
It's so hard to say goodbye to yesterday.

I don't know where this road
Is going to lead
All I know is where we've been
And what we've been through.

If we get to see tomorrow
I hope it's worth all the wait
It's so hard to say goodbye to yesterday.

And I'll take with me the memories
To be my sunshine after the rain
It's so hard to say goodbye to yesterday.

And I'll take with me the memories
To be my sunshine after the rain
It's so hard to say goodbye to yesterday.

ok so I am bored lol

Garth Brooks
The Dance

Looking back on the memory of
The dance we shared 'neath the stars above
For a moment all the world was right
How could I have known that you'd ever say goodbye

And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance

Holding you I held everything
For a moment wasn't I the king
But if I'd only known how the king would fall
Hey who's to say you know
I might have changed it all

And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance

It's my life is better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance

Tony Rich Project

I pretended I'm glad you went away
These four walls closin' more every day
And I'm dying inside
And nobody knows it but me
Like a clown I put on a show
The pain is real even if nobody knows
And I'm crying inside
And nobody knows it but me

Why didn't I say
The things I needed to say
How could I let my angel get away
Now my world is just a tumblin' down
I can say it so clearly
But you're nowhere around

The nights are lonely, the days are so sad
And I just keep thinkin' about
The love that we had
And I'm missin' you
And nobody knows it but me

I carry a smile when I'm broken in two
And I'm nobody without someone like you
I'm tremblin' inside and nobody knows it but me
I lie awake it's a quarter past three
I'm screamin' at night as if I thought
You'd hear me
Yeah my heart is callin' you
And nobody knows it but me

How blue can I get
You could ask my heart
But like a jigsaw puzzle it's been torn all apart
A million words couldn't say just how I feel
A million years from now you know
I'll be lovin' you still

The nights are lonely, the days are so sad
And I just keep thinkin' about
The love that we had
And I'm missin' you
And nobody knows it but me

Tomorrow mornin' I'm hitting the dusty road
Gonna find you wherever, ever you might go
I'm gonna unload my heart and hope you come back to me
Said when the nights are lonely...

The nights are lonely, the days are so sad
And I just keep thinkin' about
The love that we had
And I'm missin' you
And nobody knows it but me

You gotta be a parent for this to make you cry...

Where are you going my little one, little one
Where are you going my baby my own
Turn around and you’re two, turn around and you’re four
Turn around and you’re a young girl going out of the door

Where are you going my little one, little one
*Dirndls* and petticoats, where have you gone
Turn around and you’re tiny, turn around and you’re grown
Turn around and you’re a young wife with babes of your own

Turn around (turn around)
Turn around and you’re a young wife with babes of your own

Where are you going my little one, little one
Where are you going my baby my own
Turn around and you’re two, turn around and you’re four
Turn around and you’re a young girl going out of my door

Turn around (turn around)
Turn around and you’re a young girl going out of my door

Where are you going my little one, little one
*Dirndls* and petticoats, where have you gone
Turn around and you’re tiny, turn around and you’re grown

Operator (That's Not The Way It Feels)

Operator, oh could you help me place this call
You see the number on the matchbook is old and faded
She's livin' in L.A.
With my best old ex-friend Ray
A guy she said she knew well and sometimes hated

Isn't that the way they say it goes
But let's forget all that
And give me the number if you can find it
So I can call just to tell them I'm fine and to show
I've overcome the blow
I've learned to take it well
I only wish my words could just convince myself
But that's not the way it feels

Operator, oh could you help me place this call
'Cause I can't read the number that you just gave me
There's something in my eye's
You know it happens every time
I think about the love that I thought would save me

Isn't that the way they say it goes
But let's forget all that
And give me the number if you can find it
So I can call just to tell them I'm fine and to show
I've overcome the blow
I've learned to take it well
I only wish my words could just convince myself
That it just wasn't real
But that's not the way it feels

Operator oh let's forget about this call
There's no one there I really wanted to talk you
Thank you for your time
Oh you've been so much more than kind
And you can keep the dime

Isn't that the way they say it goes
But let's forget all that
And give me the number if you can find it
So I can call just to tell them I'm fine and to show
I've overcome the blow
I've learned to take it well
I only wish my words could just convince myself
That it just wasn't real
But that's not the way it feels

Ever notice that there is a song for everything?

and hey hehe if all else, I am giving people some ideas for downloads lol

I Just Ball! EveryTime!!

Me And Little Andy

By: Dolly Parton

Late one cold and stormy night I heard a dog a' barkin'
Then I thought I heard somebody at my door a' knockin'
I wondered who could be outdide in such an awful storm
Then I saw a little girl with a puppy in her arms
Before I could say a word she said, 'My name is Sandy
And this here is my puppy dog, it's name is little Andy'
Standing in the bitter cold in just a ragged dress
Then I asked her to come in and this is what she said

Chorus:

Ain't ya got no gingerbread
Ain't ya got no candy
Ain't ya got an extra bed for me and little Andy
Patty cake and bakersman
My mommy ran away again
And we was all alone and didn't know what else to do
I wonder if you'll let us stay with you

Giddy up trotty horse, going to the mill
Can we stay all night
If you don't love us no one will
I promise we won't cry
London bridge is fallin' down
My daddy's drunk again in town
And we was all alone and didn't what we could do
I wonder if you'll let us stay with you

She was just a little girl, not more than six or seven
But that night as they slept the angels took them both to heaven
God knew little Andy would be lonesome with her gone
Now Sandy and her puppy dog won't ever be alone

Ain't ya got no gingerbread
Ain't ya got no candy
Ain't ya got an extra bed for me and little (whispers) Andy

When you're talkin to yourself
And nobody's home
You can fool yourself
You came in this world alone
(Alone)

So nobody ever told you baby
How it was gonna be
So what'll happen to you baby
Guess we'll have to wait and see
One, two

Old at heart but I'm only 28
And I'm much too young
To let love break my heart
Young at heart but it's getting much too late
To find ourselves so far apart

I don't know how you're s'posed
To find me lately
An what more could you ask from me
How could you say that I never needed you
When you took everything
Said you took everything from me

Young at heart an it gets so hard to wait
When no one I know can seem to help me now
Old at heart but I musn't hesitate
If I'm to find my own way out

Still talkin' to myself and nobody's home
(Alone)

So nobody ever told us baby
How it was gonna be
So what'll happen to us baby
Guess we'll have to wait and see

When I find out all the reasons
Maybe I'll find another way
Find another day
With all the changing seasons of my life
Maybe I'll get it right next time
An now that you've been broken down
Got your head out of the clouds
You're back down on the ground
And you don't talk so loud
An you don't walk so proud
Any more, and what for

Well I jumped into the river too many times
to make it home
I'm out here on my own, an drifting all alone
If it doesn't show give it time
To read between the lines
'Cause I see the storm getting closer
And the waves they get so high
Seems everything We've ever known's here
Why must it drift away and die

I'll never find anyone to replace you
Guess I'll have to make it thru, this time
Oh this time
Without you

I knew the storm was getting closer
And all my friends said I was high
But everything we've ever known's here
I never wanted it to die

The whole album "No need to argue...."

but more specifically...
02 "I CAN'T BE WITH YOU"

Lying in my bed again
And I cry cos you're not here
Crying in my head again
And I know that it's not clear
Put your hands, put your hands
Inside my face and see that it's just you
But it's bad and it's mad
And it's making me sad
Because I can't be with you

Baby I can't be with you

Thinking back on how things were
And how we loved so well
I wanted to be the mother
of your child
And now it's just farewell

Put your hands in my hand
We'll find another end
And come with me,
And my head, and my head
On anyone's shoulder
Cause I can't be with you

Baby I can't be with you

Cause you're not here, you're not here
Baby I can't be with you
Cause you're not here, you're not here
And baby I'm still in love with you

05 "EMPTY"

Something has left my life
And I don't know where it went to
Somebody caused me strife
And it's not what I was seeking

didn't you see me, didn't you hear me
didn't you see me standing there

Why did you turn out the lights
did you know that I was sleeping

Say a prayer for me
Help to feel the strenght I did
My identity has it been taken
is my heart breaking on me

All my plans fell through my hands
They fell
through my hands on me
It suddenly seems, it suddenly seems
Empty

13 "NO NEED TO ARGUE"

There's no need to argue anymore
I gave all I could
but it left me so sore
And the thing that makes me mad
Is the one thing that I had

I knew, I knew, I'd lose you
You'll always be special to me

And I remember all the
things we once shared
Watching movies on
the living room armchair

But they say it will work out fine
Was it all a waste of time
Cause I knew, I knew, I'd lose you

You'll always be special to me

Will you forget in time
You said I was on your mind
There's no need to argue
No need to argue anymore
There's no need to argue anymore
Special

Hmmmmm.... I knew I should have been more specific. I was thinking more along the lines of patriotic, religious, uplifting, to-cry-for songs when I started the thread. Not heart wrenching make be bawl songs. But this works, too...

Hasten Down The Wind
Written by Warren Zevon 1973 Warner-Tamerlane Publishing Corp./Darkroom Music BMI

She tells him she thinks she needs to be free
He tells her he doesn't understand
She takes his hand
She tells him nothing's working out the way they planned

She's so many women
He can't find the one who was his friend
So he's hanging on to half her heart
He can't have the restless part
So he tells her to hasten down the wind

Then he agrees he thinks she needs to be free
Then she says she'd rather be with him
But it's just a whim
By which she hopes to keep him on the limb

She's so many women
He can't find the one who was his friend
So he's hanging on to half her heart
He can't have the restless part
So he tells her to hasten down the wind

Re: Harry Chapin

Every damn song except 30,000 Pounds of Bananas (obviously).

Thanks, Bri. I was beginning to think I was the only Harry Chapin lover on the board. I was lucky enough to see him perform three times before his untimely death in 1981 and for those of you who never had the privilege, words don't do the experience justice. You can catch a hint by listening to "Greatest Stories Live" or his other live disk "Legends of the Lost and Found" but to sit in a darkened theater (or better yet, an open-air ampitheater) and listen to him weave his magic in person was truly one of the most memorable moments in my life.

For my money, there's never been a more heart wrenching song written than "A Better Place To Be", but these days I have to admit that as the father of a young girl who is rushing much too quickly into adolescence, "Tangled Up Puppet" comes pretty close.

Ok then if thats what you want

SKY PILOT
THE ANIMALS

He blesses the boys as they stand in life
The smell of gun grease and their bayonets they shine
He's here to help them all that he can
To make them feel wanted he's a good holy man.
Sky pilot, sky pilot, how high can you fly
You'll never never never reach the sky.
He smiles at the young soldiers
Tells them it's all right
He knows of their fears in the forthcoming fight
Soon there'll be blood and many will die
Mother and fathers back home they will cry.
Sky pilot, sky pilot, how high can you fly
You'll never never never reach the sky.
He humbles a prayer and it ends with a smile
The order is given they move down the line
But hell stay behind and he'll meditate
But it won't stop to bleeding or is the hate.
As the young men move out into the battle zone
He feels good with god you're never alone
He feels so tired and he lays on his bed
Hopes the men will find courage
In the words that he's said.
Sky pilot, sky pilot, how high can you fly
You'll never never never reach the sky.
You're soldiers of god you must understand
The fate of your country is in your young hands
May god give you strength do your job really well
If it all was worth in only time it will tell.
In the morning they returned with tears in their eyes
The stench of death drifts up to the skies
A young soldier so it looks at the sky bright
Remember the words thou shalt not kill.

Tangled Up In Blue
Big bad bob

Early one morning the sun was shining
I was laying in bed
Wond'ring if she'd changed it all
If her hair was still red
Her folks they said our lives together
Sure was gonna be rough
They never did like Mama's homemade dress
Papa's bankbook wasn't big enough
And I was standing on the side of the road
Rain falling on my shoes
Heading out for the East Coast
Lord knows I've paid some dues getting through
Tangled up in blue.

She was married when we first meet
Soon to be divorced
I helped her out of a jam I guess
But I used a little too much force
We drove that car as far as we could
Abandoned it out West
Split it up on a dark sad night
Both agreeing it was best
She turned around to look at me
As I was walking away
I heard her say over my shoulder
"We'll meet again someday on the avenue"
Tangled up in blue.

I had a job in the great north woods
Working as a cook for a spell
But I never did like it all that much
And one day the ax just fell
So I drifted down to New Orleans
Where I happened to be employed
Working for a while on a fishing boat
Right outside of Delacroix
But all the while I was alone
The past was close behind
I seen a lot of women
But she never escaped my mind and I just grew
Tangled up in blue.

She was working in a topless place
And I stopped in for a beer
I just kept looking at her side of her face
In the spotlight so clear
And later on as the crowd thinned out
I's just about to do the same
She was standing there in back of my chair
Said to me "Don't I know your name ?"
I muttered something underneath my breath
She studied the lines on my face
I must admit I felt a little uneasy
When she bent down to tie the laces of my shoe
Tangled up in blue.

She lit a burner on the stove and offered me a pipe
"I thought you'd never say hello" she said
"You look like the silent type"
Then she opened up a book of poems
And handed it to me
Written by an Italian poet
From the thirteenth century
And every one of them words rang true
And glowed like burning coal
Pouring off of every page
Like it was written in my soul from me to you
Tangled up in blue

I lived with them on Montague Street
In a basement down the stairs
There was music in the caf,s at night
And revolution in the air
Then he started into dealing with slaves
And something inside of him died
She had to sell everything she owned
And froze up inside
And when finally the bottom fell out
I became withdrawn
The only thing I knew how to do
Was to keep on keeping on like a bird that flew
Tangled up in blue.

So now I'm going back again
I got to get her somehow
All the people we used to know
They're an illusion to me now
Some are mathematicians
Some are carpenter's wives
Don't know how it all got started
I don't what they're doing with their lives
But me I'm still on the road
Heading for another joint
We always did feel the same
We just saw it from a different point of view
Tangled up in Blue.
