Inspiration thread. (And post some good tunes)

What are some songs that specifically make you feel things that you want to write or paints a vivid scene of a story in your head?

Here's some of mine:

FTF--TR/ST That whole album's dripping in sticky closing time sex. But this one's like a late night bondage story.

Pine and Clover--Chad VanGaalen Makes me think of Maggie May. Innocent kid get strung along and crushed by a free-spirited.

Sex Tourist-- Jack Ladder "I am lucky in love, I am lucky in lust, I am the last sex tourist in the bus." You hear the old "a picture paints a thousand words" thing, but those three simple sentences sure paint a lot of pictures. Very Tom Waits.

Starless--KC The classic. Prog's a fucking goldmine. The real story is in the instrumentals. This song, I've always pictured some dark cowboy strolling into a saloon. People across the way are happy and rambunctious-- the very people he came into town to find, and he just stews and stews watching them, right up until he can't take it anymore. The sax kicks in, he snaps, and kills them all.

Some other great prog instrumentals:

Repent Walpurgis--Procol Harum

In Linistea Noptil--Rodion GA

There was an event about this…

There's a song on Bruce Springsteen's album Born to Run called "Meeting Across the River". Someone challenged a bunch of authors to write their own stories around the song and published them as an anthology.

Survivor- High on You.

Eric Carmen- Hungry Eyes.

Seth McFarlane- Intercourse With You.

Sarah MacLachlan- Posession.

Melissa Etheridge- Come to My Window.

Kesha- Die Young.

I had a story in the early stages for that karaoke challenge. It was based on Prince's, Let's Pretend We're Married. I'll try to get a little further with it if the challenge runs again. A lot/most/all of Prince's work would work for an erotic story.

I've done the fairly obvious "Flesh for Fantasy". And the slightly less obvious "Fairytale of New York".

I also have a file with only a title: "The Night Became Her Lover", taken from Luka Bloom's song "Gone to Pablo", about Picasso's wife Jacqueline Roque". I'm not sure what the story will be, but probably something dark.

Some Moody Blues:
I Know You're Out There... a lonely heart or just a person who's frustrated in the world of life.
Lovely to See You Again... long lost Lovers reunite.

Foreigner:
I want to know what love is... a frustrated and broken heart searches for love.
Waiting for a Girl Like You... sequel or happy ending to above

The Police, Roxanne, Every Breath You Take, and Don't Stand So Close To Me (I got about half-way through a story based on the last for submission with the Karaoke event, but of course I didn't get it done).

Starland Vocal Band, Afternoon Delight

Chuck Berry, My Ding A Ling

Cindy Lauper, She Bop

Fountains of Wayne, Stacy's Mom Has Got It Goin' On

The Kinks, Lola

Flo Rida, Whistle

Eartha Kitt, Santa Baby

Tone Loc, Funky Cold Medina

Katy Perry, I Kissed A Girl

I hope the Karaoke event comes back so I can get that damn story done and submit it. I was feeling good about it.

Might as well play it. The two guys in the song seem to be heading for a disaster.

I wrote my story for the Pink Orchid event in January with the title "The Maneater", based on the song by Hall & Oates in 1982. It's a long story about "A Barbie-wife/anti-heroine learned to control men."

I started with a Prologue quoting some of the song lyrics, and ended the story with:
"Oh-oh, here she comes,
Watch out, boy, she'll chew you up.
Oh-oh, here she comes,
She's a man-eater!"

The story is about how she manipulates and uses the men in her life.

"Fairytale of New York." Notice who is playing the cop in the opening scene. So your story has the same title. Science Fiction/Fantasy category? I've got to read that.

WAP...By Cardi B & Megan Thee Stallion. That whole joint is sex, sex, sex... though admittedly, it doesn't allow for a lot of interpretation... that banger is all text, and no subtext. 😲

All the money’s gone and the house is cold
And it's alright, it's alright, it's alright, it's alright
