Let's be honest, consensual sex is not always joyful, there is for example sex between former partners who still do it because of the mutual attraction still being there despite them having broken up. They simply HAVE to have sex even though they can't stand each other anymore.

Or when somebody has awoken the passion in somebody else and then leaves them unsatisfied. Or there's a secret kink a line that doesn't dare to be crossed but would be so exciting.

There are plenty of reasons why sex has a dark side and likewise there are plenty of songs about that too.

"Tongue" by the recently broken up R.E.M. for example is about a woman who is just left hanging after being pleased orally but not to the degree that would satisfy her. It's even more disturbing that those womanly lyrics are sung by a man.

"Animal Nitrate" by Suede is about the forbidden kink, the subject in this song is looking at the object of his desire, wild from the sheer lust and yet he won't get it not matter how crazy the lust is making him.

"Lakini's juice" by Live is about sex between ex-lovers, who just can't break the physical bond they have, it speaks of the frustration and at the same time celebrates the release when the two finally give in to the urge.

"Pure Morning" by Placebo is about unfilled desires being provided by a Friend with benefits but that said friend will never be what the subject truly wants that person to be.

"Unbeschreiblich Weiblich" (Undefinable Female) by Nina Hagen is about morning sickness and unwanted pregnancy. Hagen sneers "Why should I fulfill my duty as a woman? For you, for me, for him or her? I don't want to fulfill my duty, for nobody, as far as I'm concerned I HAVE no duty." But later in the song she concludes "Before I hear a baby crying I first want to have my own life on track and as it stands I'm undefinable female."

And then there's "Darling Nikki" by Prince which is about unfulfilled desire, the person only gets a glimpse of what this woman is capable of and she just leaves him hanging until he screams it out "COME BACK NIKKI COME BACK, YOUR PRINCE WANTS TO GRIIIIIIND!"

Yup, the movie version, "Nikki" is there in the audience with another man after having dated "The kid" and he calls her out on it. This is as dark as a song about consensual sex gets.

I'm not entirely sure this fits, but I always liked "Ah, Leah," by Donnie Iris. It's about a guy and a girl who can't resist having sex, but it never turns into more: "I can touch you but I don't know how to love you."

I know, it's a one-hit wonder and probably dates me, but I can't help it.

And OMG... there's a video ...

ETA: This is one of the silliest videos I've ever seen. I love it!

SA Penn Lady, if you want silly videos, try the Virtual version of "A Total Eclipse of the Heart". It would be the perfect theme song for Monty Python's Silly Party.

Is that the one where they re-wrote the lyrics to reflect what was going on in the video? Because that was great. But that was intentional silliness -- what's funny about so many early 80s videos is that they were aiming to be serious, at least sometimes.

And oddly, that song might fit under this thread as well -- wasn't that about a woman who wanted the guy back?

SA Penn Lady, yes, the Virtual video is intentional, and the lyrics state what is going on in the video, and the song is about a woman who wants her lover back. So I suppose the song fits in this thread--"we're livin' in a powderkeg and givin' off sparks" seems to show that sex is hot but love is not.

Loverboy by You Me At Six is a recent one, about a guy who sleeps with a girl he likes even though he knows he's just being used. Self Esteem by The Offspring is along similar lines.

Bring this one up again.

Prince's "Little Red Corvette" is about having been asked to do a one night stand with one of the hottest women in town and he's expressing his uncertainty, is he really good enough for her, how does he compare to the men she fucked before but as the song goes on, she actually encourages him to go on, that he's doing fine and that he should enjoy it and not worry so much.

Wonderful live version, note also the delightful Wendy Melvoin doing the solo.

The Offspring "Want you bad" is about the guy finiding out that his girl has a secret wicked side to her character, she certainly isn't the good little girl she lets the world think she is and he's urging her to let that bad side out, she's too nice and he wants her being bad.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_g19fCJotPc

"Nookie" by Limp Bizkit, is about the guy being unable to leave his infidel partner because he can't do without the sex she provides. She sleeps with everybody and it's eating him away and yet his sexual bond with her is so strong that he just can't leave her, no matter how much it hurts him.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTMVOzPPtiw

"Let's put the X in sex" by Kiss is about unfulfilled desire, the woman is teasing him relentlessly to go further but stops him at the very last moment. "Sometimes you got to suffer for the pleasure that you seek, you're begging for an eyeful but you only get a peek."
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNKJ4SPj_Rw

Motley Crue's "Hell on high heels" is about the kind of woman one should avoid but can't help being attracted to. The kind of woman who's dangerous but who you're willing to risk facing that danger for if only to have sex with her once.

Perhaps one of the darkest songs about consensual sex ever made, The Shirelles' had a hit in the mid sixties with "Will you still love me tomorrow?" which is a song about a one night stand, the girl has finally managed to get the guy she was after home and while they are busy between the sheets, she suddenly begins to doubt the validity of what she is doing, is this really love or is she just another notch on this guy's scoreboard?

OMG, isn't this the driving force behind half the music out there?

Clapton's "Layla":

Like a fool, I fell in love with you
Turned my whole world upside down
Layla, you've got me on my knees

U2's "So Cruel":

I'm only hanging on to watch you go down, my love

The Knack's "My Sharona":

When you gonna give it to me
Give it to me
It's a matter of time, Sharona

Eurythmics "I Love You Like a Ball and Chain":
I'm a fool I know, but I'm stuck on you
I'm a fool I know, and it's making me blue
There's a river of blood, there's a river of tears
I been wastin' all these years

Oh, man, we could go on and on and on on this one.....

Adam Ant, Whip It - BDSM song

Pince, Darling Nikki & Lady Cab Driver - Already been mentioned.

Prince, Get Off - In my opinion this is probably Prince's most erotic song. It is about one night stand that is driven by sexual frustration due to going without sex for a period of time and the passion that comes with it. Video suggests song is about mff but I will let you decide if that is the message of the song.

Prince, Little Red Corvette

50 Cents, P.I.M.P.

Eminem, Shake That - Covers many aspects of the dark side of consensual sex.

Pussycat Dolls, Don't Cha

City High, What Would You Do?

Shaggy, It Wasn't Me

J-Kwon, Tipsy - Casual sex

Nelly, Na NaNa Na - Casual sex

I don't have any good sex songs in mind yet, but Total Eclipse of the Heart was originally a song from a not very well known vampire musical called Dance of the Vampires. This was way way before True Blood, Twilight, and Buffy.

venus in furs - velvet underground - written by Lou Reed

the tune is a slow, sardonic beat

Shiny, shiny, shiny boots of leather
Whiplash girlchild in the dark
Comes in bells, your servant, don't forsake him
Strike, dear mistress, and cure his heart

Downy sins of streetlight fancies
Chase the costumes she shall wear
Ermine furs adorn the imperious
Severin, Severin awaits you there

I am tired, I am weary
I could sleep for a thousand years
A thousand dreams, that would awake me
Different colors made of tears

Kiss the boot of shiny, shiny leather
Shiny leather in the dark
Tongue of thongs, the belt that does await you
Strike, dear mistress, and cure his heart

Severin, Severin, speak so slightly
Severin, down on your bended knee
Taste the whip, in love not given lightly
Taste the whip, now plead for me

I am tired, I am weary
I could sleep for a thousand years
A thousand dreams, that would awake me
Different colors made of tears

Shiny, shiny, shiny boots of leather
Whiplash girlchild in the dark
Severin, your servant comes in bells, please don't forsake him
Strike, dear mistress, and cure his heart

Hmm... Let's shake up the music styles.

Check this out, it'll save alot of YouTube'ing cause I don't feel like linking all of this.

Ok, I know the band is hated: But:

Off of the album Three Dollar Bill, yall$ (1997) by Limp Bizkit has a song called "Stuck". It's written about a guy hating his ex girlfriend as only ex girlfriends who talk crapola can be hated. It gets twisted into the Fred 'i rulez' Durst format, but it's points are valid when they are put up.

They wrote another one on Significant Other (1999). No, not that idiot nookie song, it was called called "No Sex" and was about sleeping with a girl you did not love, when you did not want to. It doesn't fit their usual format (as any album past the first was trash), but it's not a bad song for the lyrics.

Type O Negative wrote many songs about sex, always dark. There are easily too many to list, but these two are my favorite:

On Bloody Kisses (1993) There is a song called "Black No. 1 (or Little-Miss-Scare-All)" about a man's obsession with a goth girl and how it relates to necrophilia. Yeah, I know, but the late Peter Steele makes it sexy.

On that same album is a song called "Christian Woman" about a man who loves to fuck religious girls, and how they love to fuck him back. Oh yeah, it's sexy, gothic or not, especially when he gets to the crucifix in cleavage.

How about some rap/hip-hop? Ok, I'll choose some big names to make it easier.

Puff Daddy (when that's what he was still called) wrote a diddy (ha) about endlessly cheating on your girlfriend, and then telling her, in succession to the next, featuring a fellow artist named Lil Cease. It's called the "Big Butt Song" or "Big 'Ole Butt Song" depending on who you ask. It's harsh, and degrading, but out of context of the rap lyrics intention, he's got a point. It was released as a single, not on an album.

The next big name for artists (to make it easier) not rapping about "lets fuck hoes, get guns, shoot cars, etc" but instead about an interpersonal encounter, is The Notoriuos BIG. He wrote a 'song' about meeting a woman, then going back to her place for sex, then while at mid-coitis, her boyfriend shows up. It's on Life, After Death (1997) and called "I Got a Story to Tell".

I have more of them stuck in my head if you want to know them, OP, or anyone.

Dessa sings Matches To Paper Dolls

...
Uh, tried sweet talk, tried dynamite
But I sleepwalk back to the battle site
Fight fire with fire but the fire won't fight
We just fly these circles like tired kites
And you flash some fang
And I bat my lashes
And we're back again
No end to this game with matches
...

Sorry about the audio quality - cell phone video. Not mine.
