Someone posted this on another board..it is a great song

If tomorrow all the things were gone
I'd worked for all my life,
And I had to start again
with just my children and my wife,
I'd thank my lucky stars
to be living here today,
'Cause the flag still stands for freedom
and they can't take that away.

I'm proud to be an American
where at least I know I'm free,
And I won't forget the men who died
who gave that right to me,
And I gladly stand up next to you
and defend her still today,
'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land
God Bless the U.S.A.

>From the lakes of Minnesota
to the hills of Tennessee,
Across the plains of Texas
from sea to shining sea.
>From Detroit down to Houston
and New York to L.A.,
There's pride in every American heart
and it's time we stand and say:

I'm proud to be an American
where at least I know I'm free,
And I won't forget the men who died
who gave that right to me,
And I gladly stand up next to you
and defend her still today,
'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land
God Bless the U.S.A.

Cheyene Anthem

Ask Isabella Thorne if she haz the lyrics, it's by Kansas Left Overture...Meanwhile I listen to John Across the Universe

I've heard that song 3 times in the last few hours. LOVE IT!!!!!!!! I also like Ray Charles doing "America."

O beautiful for spacious skies
For amber waves of grain
For purple mountain majesties
Above thy fruited plain

America, America
God shed His grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea

For beautiful..for spacious skies
For amber waves of grain
For purple mountain..majesties
Above the fruited plain...
America!...America!...
God shed His grace..on thee..
And crowned thy good, with brotherhood
From sea...to shining sea...

America!..America!!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea...to..shining..sea!!

God bless America
Land that I love
Stand beside her
And guide her
Through the night with a light from above
From the mountains
To the prairies
To the oceans white with foam
God bless America
My home sweet home
God bless America
Land that I love
Stand beside her
And guide her
Through the night with a light from above
From the mountains
To the prairies
To the oceans white with foam
God bless America
My home sweet home
God bless America....
My home sweet home!

There comes a time when we heed a certain call
When the world must come together as one
There are people dying
and its time to lend a hand to give
the greatest gift of all

We cant go on pretending day by day
That someone, somewhere will soon make a change
We are all a part of Gods great big family
And the truth, you know,
Love is all we need

We are the world, we are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day
So lets start giving
Theres a choice we're making
We're saving our own lives
its true we'll make a better day
Just you and me

Send them your heart so they'll know that someone cares
And their lives will be stronger and free
As God has shown us by turning stones to brend
So we all must lend a helping hand

We are the world, we are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day
So lets start giving
Theres a choice we're making
We're saving our own lives
its true we'll make a better day
Just you and me

When you're down and out, there seems no hope at all
But if you just believe theres no way we can fall
Let us realize that a change can only come
When we stand together as one

We are the world, we are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day
So lets start giving
Theres a choice we're making
We're saving our own lives
its true we'll make a better day
Just you and me

Angels Among Us
~Alabama~

I was walking home from school on a cold winter day.
Took a shortcut through the woods, and I lost my way.
It ws getting late, and I was scared and alone.
But then a kind old man took my hand and led me home.

Now, Momma couldn't see him
Oh, but he was standing there
And I knew in my heart
He was the answer to my prayers

Ohhh, I believe there are angels among us
Sent down to us from somewhere up above
They come to you and me in our darkest hours
To show us how to live
To teach us how to give
To guide us with the light of love

When life held trouble times, and had me down on my knees
There's always been someone to come along and comfort me
A kind word from a stranger to lend a helping hand
A phone call from a friend just to say "I understand"
But ain't it kind of funny at the dark end of the road
That someone lights the way with just a single ray of hope

Ohhh, I believe there are angels among us
Sent down to us from somewhere up above
They come to you and me in our darkest hours
To show us how to live
To teach us how to give
To guide us with the light of love

They wear so many faces
Show up in the strangest places
To grace us with their mercy
In our time of need

Ohhh, I believe there are angels among us
Sent down to us from somewhere up above
They come to you and me in our darkest hours
To show us how to live
To teach us how to give
To guide us with the light of love

Well, hell...

This post was me. I don't know why it came up Unregistered. I never jumped out of Lit and came back. My info should have been stored still.

Especially Fitting

America the Beautiful

Of beautiful for spacious skies
For amber waves of grain
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee!
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea.

This song fits the mood of the country - together.

work ... work ... work ... but then again i would do anything you ask darling ... ;)

From the mountains to the sun,
life has only just begun
We wed this land and
pledge our souls to meet its end,
Life has only just begun
Here my people roam the earth,
in the kingdom of our birth
Where the dust of all our horses hides the sun
We are mighty on the earth, on the earth

You have come to move me,
take me from my ancient home,
Land of my fathers I can't leave you now
We will share it with you,
no man owns this earth we're on
Now the wheels are rolling,
hear the howling winds of war
It's my destiny to fight and die
Is there no solution,
can we find no other way,
Lord let me stay
Under the endless sky and the earth below
Here I was born to live
and I will never go, oh no

But we cannot endure like the earth
and the mountains
Life is not ours to keep, for a new sun is rising

Soon these days shall pass away,
for our freedom we must pay
All our words and deeds
are carried on the wind,
In the ground our bodies lay,
here we lay

~Kansas~

Sorry to ruin the moment, but I hate that "I'm Proud to be an American" song. Sorry...it makes me gag.

I'd much rather hear "America the Beautiful", or in a pinch, "Don't Tread on me" by Metallica to get my patriotic blood pumping.

I love you anyway Rosie-posie

I have to go with PC. I heard way too many drunken airmen screech that song during Desert Storm, I retch when I hear it too. I prefer the National Anthem.

Tiggs,

Not much for Alabama, but, I LOVE THAT SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK, PC

Howling at the Moon

Isabella...Isabella...You may be the only one that get's this thread

Actually I posted that song the other morning, with a link to the lyrics that I also posted.

I'm still posting on the lyrics thread. For those few of us who like that thread, thanks to everyone else who put these songs there as well. It's nice to see this thread, and the outpouring of patriotism. Here's a link Patriotic site

My personal favorite

Over there, over there,
Send the word, send the word over there--
That the Yanks are coming,
The Yanks are coming,
The drums rum-tumming everywhere.

So prepare, say a pray'r,
Send the word, send the word to beware.
We'll be over, we're coming over
And we won't come back till it's over
Over there!!!!

Oh say can you see,
by the dawn's early light,
what so proudly we hail,
in the twilight's last gleaming.

Who's broad stripes and bright stars,
through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched,
were so gallantly streaming.

And the rockets red glare,
the bombs bursting in air,
gave proof through the night
that our flag was still there.

Oh say does that star spangled
banner yet wave?
O'er the land of the free,
and the home of the brave.
On the shore dimly seen throughout the mists of the deep
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes
What is that which the breeze o'er the towering steep
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam
In full glory reflected now shines on the stream.
`Tis the Star-Spangled Banner, Oh long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
And where is that band who so hauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion
A home and country, shall leave us no more?
Their blood was washed out their foul foot steps pollution
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave.
And the Star-Spangled Banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Oh thus be it e'er when free men shall stand
Between their lov'd homes and war's desolation!
Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the Pow'r that has made and presrv'd us a nation
And conquer we must when our cause is just
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the Star-Spangled Banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

May God Bless our trialed nation.
