Hello,
A long time ago I read a story that was told from the sons POV, he was never popular at school and failed to secure a spot on I believe the baseball team, however they needed someone to be their helper which he ended up being. He gets somewhat popular at school and is hoping he can finally get with the girl he's had a crush on. There's a big end of the year party for the team and the previous place it was supposed to be at had to cancel and the team is bummed. They ask the son if they can have the party at his place and he agrees before even asking his parents as he wants to be liked. His dad is against the idea as he doesn't want the house destroyed and he wont be home that weekend. His mom convinces the dad and the son is excited.
The party happens and he notices some of his teammates spending a lot of time chatting and flirting with his mom but doesn't pay too much attention to it. He ends up spending a lot of time with his crush but he realizes she's not really into him but is still having a good time. She makes some off-hand comment about how had she known how cool he was, she wouldn't have been so resistant to the request from one of the boys that had been hanging around his mom to spend time with him. The son is perplexed by this comment and realizes he hasn't seen his mom or those guys for sometime now.
I'm probably mixing in other stories so if you know of something close or with a similar premise, please let me know.
