Son of a bitch!

Well, now I suppose you will be palling around with Amicus, opposing abortion, dope, public schools and all that kind of thing.

Hey now, not all of us who oppose public schools are conservatives... some of us are radical anarchists <grin>

I just discovered I'm actually a conservative.

Our 'friend' will be thrilled. ;)
Just take some deep, cleansing breaths, Rob. Remember, there's nothing (much) to be ashamed of. It happens in the best of families.

Rumple Foreskin

Better yet, simply refuse to be labelled in some insignificant political sense. :D

PS - 'jammies, I promise I did not read the article and that this is -not- a political thread, but a cry for independence from political threads, so please do not beat us with the rubber chicken.

I don't oppose public schools, and even though I do believe that a woman has a right to make decisions about her body, I don't agree with abortion unless it puts the woman's life at risk (she will most likely die). I'll hang with Amicus anyday.

Conservative & Liberal are relative terms when applied to ppolitical beliefs. I'm an old school conservative. to me the Neo-cons are reactionary to them I'm left leaning.

I don't oppose public schools, I oppose the way in which they are bing administered. I oppose the way in which they are utterly failing to arm children with the factual knowledgebase nexxessary to make informed decisions and better themselves.

I don't oppose abortion. I oppose the long arm of government reaching down from on high and delivering a moral stricture with the weight of secular law to any citizen, not just a perspective mother.

I do support making some drugs illegal. I don't think pot should be. I've never met a violent pot user. PCP or Methamphetamine however, will make even normal people violently irritable. Society does ned to be protected from that.

My definition of conservative has always hinged on opposing change for change's sake. If a legitimate need for change can be presented and a plan put forward that promises to affect that change, without rediculously skewed consequences in other areas, I support change.

The current crop of "conservatives" are all about making changes. Wholesale changes. With no concrete plan for effecting them that is based on a logical or reasonable approach. They don't even come close to the principals of conservatism. Smaller Government, Individual responsibility, states rights, the very cornerstones of conservatism are not even concepts in their minds, much less guiding principals of their actions.

Considering we're supposedly on the opposite sides of the political spectrum, it's amazing how similar we are Colleen.

We even like the same sex. ;)

Colleen, I don't like labels. I think labels are gear towards limiting the impression of free thought.

I've voted for mainly Republicans, but I believe myself to be an independant. I look for candidates who mostly are aligned with my way of thinking, unless they piss me off like Bush Sr. and I ended up voting for Ross  .

I don't mind being labled a conservative snake. I mind that a bunch of tin plated yahoo's have redefined my party and afiliation into something I don't recognize as conservative.

I'm not a sheep. I'm not changeing or compromising long held beliefs to fit the new program. I am, by process of elimination, an independant now. While I am no longer a republican, I'm a conservative damnit, and I won't let these assholes define the term to mean sheep and expect me to go along.

I voted for Bush the elder. I voted for Bush the younger, the first time around. the second time, I voted libertarian.

Now my party has been hijacked by theorcratically bent nut jobs. My affiliation has been hijacked by reactionary, ignorant twits. I can't do anything about the first, but I'll be damned if I sit idlly by on the second.

So I'll take the lable conservative and I'll defend the values I know to be conservative. To me there is no shame in being a conservative. there would be shame in abandoning the term in order to avoid the fight of preserving what it means.

I don't think I have changed much. My goal is to stay free from the tyranny of others. That means, for the most part, standing outside the box looking in.
