Something wrong with my votes. HELP!!!

There's something wrong with my votes. I logged back to Lit after a gap of about 15 days and noticed that my votes hadn't changed at all. I have four submitted postings - 2 stories and 2 poems.

The number of votes when I left were -

Stories:
Doggie Style - no, of votes 126, rating 4.45
Suzanne's Surrender - no. of votes 57, rating 4.33

Poems:
E I E I O - no. of votes 7, rating 4.00
G is for the 'Goo' - no. of votes 5, rating 3.'something'

Now, I came back on the 23rd... and noticed ABSOLUTELY NO change in the number of votes. OK, I thought, people not reading my stuff or not voting.

Now, what has happend is that the number of votes for my last poem - "G is for the 'Goo'" has gone down to 4!!! I mean, it was 5 before and now it shows up as 4.... Now, I'm sure there's something wrong with my voting or my view submission page. Any help anyone?

Hmm interesting, my #s of votes have also been static and I noticed yesterday when I tried to vote on stories I got a message telling me I'd already voted! Hmmm something's afoot methinks...

If your total number of votes go down it means Laurel caught some cheating and removed the extra votes.

This means that scores go up for most people and down for a few.

First, the "lost vote" question:

Contrary to poupular belief, Laurel does have a system in place to detect and remove fraudulent votes. You didn't mention if the vote average went up or down, but I'd bet that the vote missing was a one vote traced to someone who voted down all poetry.

Second the stalled votes:

Given peachykeen's experience with not being able to vote, it might be a problem with the voting scripts. I don't think that would be allowed to go on for two weeks or so.

The most probable reason for your votes stalling is that your work is no longer on the new list and not rated high enough to rank on page one of the top stories list.

Check the vote totals on "Doggie Style" and make sure the vote I just cast is recorded. If it isn't, then there is some problem with the voting script. I didn't have any trouble casting a vote, BTW so either the problem has been fixed or only affects some people.

I didn't note if the vote average went up or down. I don't follow it that closely, but I do look at the number of people voting. Yes, I also thought that people weren't voting because it wasn't on the new list and all, but then after it was off the new list also there would be at least one vote a day. I don't know how, but everyday when I checked it, the number of votes would be higher than the day before. Then suddenly, over a period of two weeks NOTHING happening to it is wierd. There would be one person voting in at least one story/poem in all of the 2 weeks. No? It strikes me as abnormal.

name of story/poem: no. of votes, rating

Doggie Style: 128, 4.43
Suzanne's Surrender: 58, 4.28
E I E I O: 9, 4.00 (I'm wondering about nine,no change in rating)
G is for the 'Goo': 5 , 3.60

Now, all the number of votes have gone up and the ratings have come down. All this in just 7 hours!! 5 votes recorded. Same person voted or different people??

Anyway, its moving, I guess I'm happy.

I'd say there were only two people voting:

Me = a single five vote on "doggie style"

Unknown asshole = four one votes just because you are obviously concerned about votes on your story and theycan anonymously hurt you by voting one.

(I don't know for sure about the other three, but the second vote on "Doggie Style" was definitely a one vote along with the five I gave.)

That seems to be a hazard of acknowledging that you care about whether people vote or not -- at least it's something I've seen time and again: Someone asks or complains about votes in publicc and all of their stories get hit by one votes.
