Let's say our main character/hero was to bring a law enforcement type (officer jenny from the world of pokemon) a piece of physical evidence for perfectly innocent reasons. But since she only has the word of the main character to go on she suspects the main character is involved in a related criminal conspiracy. So what can the main character do to gain Officer Jenny's trust?

If the officer is smart - nothing. It's her job to be impartial, and if there's a chance he can be suspected, she should be wary of him and keep a cool head until he has a steel-proof alibi.

In the real world, however, being a good person can lead another person to trust you. Not goody-two-shoes type of good, but if you seem honest, helpful but not too much, if you appear to be genuine - the officer can sub-consciously start trusting you.
There were cases where actual criminals were so good at this that they managed to lead the investigation of the false trail for months or years. There were cases where the investigator was so sure in the innocence of a person, that even in the face of heavy evidence they started to try and explain it in the way that made the person not guilty. Not because they wanted to cover up for them, but because the investigator genuinely believes this person's innocence and thinks the evidence should be explained otherwise.:cattail:

So our Officer Jenny has a thang for Nefarious Ned but she sees evidence of his squickiness and must choose between love and duty whilst he tries to tell her it ain't so, maybe with some emotional bribery. Wasn't this the basic plot of The Maltese Falcoln? The babe shot the dick's partner and he busted her anyway because hey, letting her slide would be bad for business. What emotional-legal-economic calculus must Jenny employ to decide Ned's fate?

It's not exactly like that its more of a hurdle for the main character to over come. The eventual plan is to get her on his side and turn the relationship into f*ck buddies with benefits.

But is he actually innocent, or nefarious? Will he turn her to The Dark Side? Does she know (or at least suspect) what she's getting into?

Well not necessarily innocent, but not nefarious either. He realizes being in this world he'll probably have to go on his own pokemon journey and realizes
1. He can't have the Officer Jennys of this world as an enemy
2. Ideally he'd like to be friendly with one of them to have them as an asset for future stories and maybe turn her into a f*ck buddy with benefits

No she doesn't supect what shes getting into with him. But she thinks he was acting too helpful when they had their first conversation and gave the tech all the samples she wanted from him.

What about your girl over hears the guy declining to take a bribe or perhaps defend a prostitute that your girl knows the prostitute is not guilty of whatever the charge is?

What's with the five "bumps"? You haven't liked the ideas already offered?

Yeah, two bumps is about the limit before you start to appear needy, and even that is stretching it. Most netiquette guides would say one bump, two at the most, then let it rest.
