NYC Bomb Wasn’t The Only High Alert This Weekend
Once again it is the citizens of America, not Janet ‘the system worked’ Napolitano, keeping us safe . . .
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) Runners in the Pittsburgh Marathon were detoured as they approached the finish due to a suspected pipe bomb near a bus station near the end of the course.
KDKA’s Bob Allen observed the bomb squad at the Greyhound bus station at 11th Street and Liberty Avenue.
Allen observed bomb squad personnel getting into their special made suits and a robot being moved into position.
One officer at the scene said that the device was a microwave with a pipe bomb inside. The microwave was in a white box near the entrance of the building.
However, Police Chief Nate Harper would only confirm that there were suspicious contents inside the microwave.
The device was detonated and Liberty Avenue and Grant Street had been blocked off.
Chicago: CTA service on the Red Line to and from the 95th Street stop was suspended for nearly two hours as police investigated an unattended package found on a train there, officials said.
The package turned out to be a pipe and no explosives were found, said Police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer.
By about 10 p.m., trains and traffic on the Dan Ryan Expressway, which also had been delayed for a time, were running normally again, according to the CTA.
Officials received a report of the “suspicious package” at around 8:15 p.m.; police secured the scene and evacuated the area immediately, said Chicago Fire Department spokesman Joe Roccasalva.
The police bomb and arson unit was called to the scene, said Chicago Police Sgt. Antoinette Ursitti.
I still can’t find a news story that reports what the message was, but I’ll add this to the list of ‘questionable’ happenings:
PHILADELPHIA — A United Airlines flight from Chicago to Philadelphia has landed safely after the crew found “a suspicious message.”
A Transportation Security Administration spokeswoman said Saturday the agency was notified by the crew of Flight 148 that “a suspicious message was found on board.” She would not elaborate. The flight landed safely at 6:55 p.m. at Philadelphia International Airport, near its scheduled time.
The agency says the plane was directed away from the terminal as a precaution and met by law enforcement officers and TSA officials. Once the passengers got off, officers swept the aircraft but did not find anything of concern.
