Someone tell me....

Why my newest story would get 1 bombed before it even had 5 votes.

And do they change the catagory if the think it's appropriate?

I'm lost.

Because some people have nothing better to do with their lives than make others unhappy. It's unfortunately easy to do in cyberspace where unethical behaviour will not collect you the kick in the crotch such actions deserve.

I imagine they can. If you disagree, PM Laurel and ask why.

Someone PM'd me and said that her stories were doing well until she made an appearance in the Author's Hangout, and then all her stories were one-bombed.

It's really creepy to think that there are trolls amongst us or lurking on the AH, taking out their gripes by bombing stories. I was really shocked.

I have sent in stories for one category and when they posted they were in another category.

I am glad I stopped looking at votes a long time ago, I have alot less heartburn now :)

Omni~

This happened with your Olympics story too?

Add two and two together and get your bomber Dranoel.

(I gave it a five, loved it!!)

Welcome to the 'I've been bombed club!' The most normal reason for a story category change is form something else to Incest/Taboo. If there is even a hint of incest, that is the category in which your story will be placed. If the change is not to incest, maybe you hit the wrong choice during submission?

No incest. Not even a hint.

I had put it in Erotic Couplings, it got moved to Exibitionist/Voyeur. While there is a stong element of voyeurism, the main focus of the story was the couple getting together.

I guess I can live with the change. Was just curious. I would have preferred having it in the more mainstream catagory though.

If that was the case, then you might have done it after all. The fields for categories on the submission form are preselctions, but if you forget to click return after making a selection, sometimes they'll scroll on you to another choice when you move your mouse.

I had that happen to a poem I sent in once. Just drop TPTB a note, or resubmit it...whichever you think is easier.

Yannow, one of these days I'm gonna get smarter and leave public voting off.

About voting

========================

I"ve often been told, and by Laurel, too, that voting is not the best measure of your work's worth. That has been expressed by many.

While it has more than a modicum of truth in it, it is not to be dismissed so arbitrarily. I suspicion that there are often other motives behind people saying that. This is not always true, but too often, methinks.

Voting is the least cumbersome way for our reading audience to express their liking, disliking (trolls and bombers excluded) of our work. Therefore, it is very important.

Yes, public comments are nice, a wonderful ego booster for all to see, but often lack true sincerity, however, when really sincere, they are more than wonderful.

E mails are wonderful, and the hardest to come by. They are precious when complimentary, though some often have criticism. That critiscism is often valued, though.

Those are the three ways we get to know our writing's worth to others.

That we serve a lazy audience is to be expected, therefore, I once again say that the voting, the 1's to 5's, are very important.

Why some people bomb? Viciousness, unreasonalble dislike of some categories (lesbian, incest, cuckolding), and yes, position by, or for an author.

Some, perhaps friends, admirerers, or even the author wanting to win, or have preeminence, will bomb another's story. It is even possible that there is a mole in Lit's offices who does so for another, as a favor, or as a personal something within them.

Either way, it is abominable. I wonder if they do away with prizes, or if they don't do "top favorites" until they have 50 or so votes might change things a bit.

Whatever, as a writer who has found a small audience, I value all of those methods of appreciation, the e mails, the public comments, and yes, the voting.

That voting tells me more about our innately lazy audience, what they think of my stories.

End of my say. Had to say it again. :D

mismused :rose:

Problem with leaving the voting off is that the little red H can bring more views and you would be out of the contests and toplists.

I turned off the voting on all my stories because I didn't like them used as a playground. As a matter of fact, that did happen shortly after appearing on AH but I would rather not make that connection.

I gave up trying to figure the motivation behind this troll(s). It's just too weird.

I had one of my stories changed over from Erotic Couplings to Interracial. Never really thought of it that way and never paid any attention to the category. The powers that be also changed the tag to something more specific. Thanks, ptb.
