If you taped the show last night and don't want to know what happened, don't read this, as I shall be revealing secrets galore. OK...you've been warned.

I was curious to see how the show would handle the 9/11 tragedy. All they really did was have the new blonde cop chastise Sipowicz when he was doing one of his usual rants, that they were all upset right now. I don't know what I expected, but I expected better.

Then again, why? The show has almost become a parody of itself. Last season Rick Schroeder's character sort of went goofy at the end, and was missing to start this season. He's missing no longer--he was found dead in a ditch. This is odd, because I remember reading somewhere that he was supposed to appear in 3 episodes this year and then go off into the sunset. But you don't cross Steven Bochco. Jimmy Smits wanted to leave--killed off. Sharon Lawrence had a new show--killed off. Schroeder didn't like that his character was becoming a whiny wimp--killed off.

And that brings us to the reaction on the show of Schroder's death. Uh, there wasn't one. A cop was kidnapped and brutally murdered by a guy in the Mob and there was virtually no reaction. Oh, sure, Sipowicz went to a bar and almost drank and didn't, but that was about it. The second part of the show he wasn't mentioned at all. Dead, gone, forgotten.

Then again, so many people on the show have been killed that one more body is sort of lost in the shuffle. My God, who would want to work within 100 miles of Sipowicz. He's had two partners died, his wife was murdered, his son was murdered. Stay AWAY from this guy.

And then you have the new guy on the show, the guy with two names, Mark-Paul Something. What do you call this guy, M-P? Idiot. He's 17 years old or so and once appeared on Saved by the Bell. When Jimmy Smits replaced David Caruso people thought he wasn't tough enough to play a cop. Then they brought in Ricky (Rick!) Schroeder, and there were catcalls. Now this kid. Who's going to replace him when he (inevitably) get killed? RuPaul?

The show is just repeating itself. Has been for years. Time to let Sipowicz sail off into the sunset, before someone else gets hurt.

Thanks for the thread! I forgot all about NYPD show last night- I don't think of November as being the start of a new season anymore. I didn't watch it and didn't tape it but now I at least know what is going on.

Maybe you can save me an hour of TV each week and just keep this thread going for a few months? :)

Hey, Mark-Paul Gosselar now, maybe next it'll be DCL!

What?

I could picture him in a cops uniform. Handcuffs, billyclub, maglite and all.

-evil grin-

Don't tangle with me, perp. That's it, up against the wall, and spread 'em.

Time for my butt scene.

I used to be addicted to NYPD Blue.. way back in the early days. I haven't liked the show for a few years (since around the time Smits died). I couldn't stand Kim Delaney, she was kinda cute, but in my opinion, she couldn't act. *shrugs* Now she has that new show Philidelphia or something.. haven't seen it... don't want to see it.

Sipowitz (however you spell it) has really gone down hill. I agree, if he was my partner, I would quit the department. :D

The dialog about kills me. The way they talk in circles drives me nuts. Maybe this is the way they talk in New York, and if that is true, then New Yorker friends, I'm sorry. Me being from out here in the little hickville in Washington State. Just can't handle it.. :)

I did like the scene after they found his body to a point.. When Sipowitz walked over and looked to the New York skyline.. .. The missing Twin towers in the sky line brought more tears to my eyes, then the finding of Ricky's body.(That scene could have been done so much better) I knew that was going to happen (I read in the Star last year, that he was going to be killed off. Yes I read those magazines, so far they have been right on all of the shows this season :p so there..)

The show is filed into my "will watch only if desperate" file right along with ER.. :)

The dialog on the show does slip often into self-parody. Get into trouble, you're in a "jackpot". Rough up a suspect, it's a "tune-up". Of course you have "perp". I like that word, I have to find ways to include it more into conversation. Perp. Perp.

I think Dennis Franz is a pretty good actor, but he's run out of moves. His character makes Job look like a wuss. I've expended all the emotional capital I'm willing to spend on the guy.

I never bought Kim Delaney as a cop. Or an actress. The girl makes me either laugh or cringe. I can't see her solving homicides.

Nor Medavoy, who is, and let's be honest here, a total chump. How the hell is he a detective? I'm willing to suspend my disbelief to a certain point, but come on.

Look at the folks who have left this show. David Caruso. Sherry Springfield. Amy Brennerman. David Schwimmer (not a regular, but, still, killed off early). Gail O'Grady (she was the absolutely YUMMY blonde secretary). Jimmy Smits. Sharon Lawrence. Andrea Thompson. Kim Delaney. James McDaniel. Nicholas Turturro. Rick Schroeder. I'm sure I'm missing someone. That's...11 major characters in nine years. Remarkable.

Pass the Christo, I wanna bake a pie

:p

NYPD is going down fast, but...

Did anyone watch Homicide when it was on. The book that preceded the show was fantastic, and i usually am adverse to reading Police books.

The show touted avant style editing and alot of handheld camera work. As time went on it became slightly more traditional. Andre Braugher had some amazing performances in the first 2 years of the show.

The authentic thing was that the cases occasionally went unsolved.

I believe there are re-runs on court TV for those so inclined.

I feel the same

I watched the drama from its inception. It has tired, I made it throught he RS period, but the drama has tired. In my opinon Smits was the key for so many years- hated to see him leave.

As for Delaney, her new show is awful. I find her sexy as hell though. Not sexy enough to endure Philly.......

Who was the blonde detective whos husband was drug running.....I found something quite sexy about her. *hubba hubba*

Too bad the series did not leave when it was on top........

Jill Kerkindall.. or something to that effect.

she gave me the creeps.. no idea why.. :D

Creeps....huh

She just had some quality.....

I love women who are shaped like her- curvy, full bodied and fit. Her voice had a lounge singer quality...part soft and sensual, with a little spash of raspiness....

Not the sexiest woman alive, but there was something about her.......

My first thought on Tuesday was, How many people can get murdered in one two hour show?

As far as Danny, they did mention that it was five months later, and I assumed that they all felt was dead and them finding the body was just proof positive.

I watched Homicide for awhile when it first started. I also like Law and Order because sometimes they don't always solve the crime (at least in the real early shows) and then a lot of times the guilty go free. Used to love Ben Stone's looks of disbelief. Show isn't the same since the scorching Angie Harmon left.

As for Kirkendahl (the blonde) she's now reading the news on Headline News!

I think that is why she gave me the creeps.. *L*

I liked her as an actress, but her character is what I didn't like. It's really hard to explain. *shrugs*

That was Andrea (an-dree-a) Thompson. She's now the primetime anchor for CNN Headline News. Old CNN staffers are pissed that she's there.

I was wondering who are the few people beside me to watch Philly. Apparently, they are not here.

I saw her there and it took me a minute or two to figure out who she was. But I thought she did a good job the few times I saw her on CNN.

Instant NYPD Blue script (just fill in names):

A street scene, a body on the pavement. Sipowicz and (soon to be deceased) partner walk thru the yellow tape. Sipowicz asks what happened. Beat cop explains. Sipowicz insults the beat cop's intelligence.

Medavoy says that he and partner will do the canvas.

Sipowicz interviews eyewitness (either building supervisor, drunken homeless person, or smart-mouth jackass). Sipowicz insults witness, who is far too stupid or burned-out to comprehend.

Sipowicz interviews victim's boyfriend/neighbor. There may be multiple people interviewed. One of these people will act a bit too upset, or not quite upset enough. This person is involved in the murder.

Medavoy says something remarkably thickheaded. No one pays attention to him.

Sipowicz insults Lieutenant's competance or makes vague homophobic remark about John the secretary.

Female detectives interview incredibly irritating female who is the lead suspect's wife/girlfriend/mistress. This woman will betray the suspect and admit that the suspect did it.

Sipowicz and doomed partner re-interview the obviously guilty boyfriend/neighbor. Sipowicz threatens/hits suspect. Suspect inexplicably confesses to crime although there is no evidence against him and no credible witnesses.

Sipowicz goes home to have touching scene with young son, who of course is doomed to die in horrible fashion in the next season or so. Son says something adorable and Sipowicz smiles warmly, giving the impression that he is a kind and caring person, instead of a violent, racist bully.

Re: Instant NYPD Blue script (just fill in names):

christo,

This is true hilarity(and biting satire). I think you have given the show more thought than the writers/producers. Inspired.

ABC showed reluctance to renew the show for this season and I think this will be its last.

I mock, but the show had it's good moments as well. It's just very tired right now. Well, for the past few seasons.

I will admit that I have found many of the Blue women quite fetching. Gail O'Grady was a bodacious platinum-blonde bombshell. Amy Brennerman looked cute yet dominant in her uniform, and during one close-up scene she actually had a pimple, and the fact that a TV actress would actually let herself be shown with a blemish on her face gave the show a dose of reality almost unheard of. I admit to having a serious thing for Sharon Lawrence. She did this TV movie where she was sleeping with her best friend's son...my kinda woman. Andrea Thompson had a scene where she was wearing a wire, and she stripped down to bra and panties to put it one, and, whoa. Don't see many news anchors appearing in lingerie. And Charlotte Ross, the new girl, took her top off in the first episode she appeared in. Bravo to her.

I personaly think the best actor on NYPD is Theo.. He is so cute and does so well for being so young. :)

In a previous post I sketched out a fill-in-the-blank NYPD Blue script. So, how did this week's episode fit?

-- The witness to the crime was, as the beat cop said, a "wack-job".

-- The friend of the murder victim became hysterical and fainted upon hearing her friend was dead. She was involved in the murder.

-- Sipowicz insulted the detective who was first on the scene at the murder he had to investigate.

-- Medavoy made a total ass of himself in the 30 seconds he got to speak this week.

-- The very cute blonde cop was stuck with interviewing the female friend of the victim, who was involved in the murder.

-- Sipowicz's partner inteviewed the suspect in the second murder himself, but, again, after threatening the suspect with severe bodily harm, the suspect confessed, although there was no physcial evidence to connect him to the crime and no witnesses.

I'm pretty damned good, if I may say so myself.

Don't any of these arrested people know Johnnie Cochran's phone number? These "interrogations" are $50 million lawsuits waiting to happen.
