Someone is going to get it!

A modest suggestion

Almost all of the other posters to this thread are award winning authors, so I thought I'd add a little perspective. One of my stories, Lawn Mowing Torture, has a score of 2.52 with 21 votes, and another, Just Rewards, has a score of 2.41 with 17 votes (as I'm writing this).

I'm pretty sure that the votes are a reflection of the stories I've chosen to tell, rather than a lack of writing ability. 38 people disliked my stories enough to score them low, so I'm sure it's no campaign or fluke.

Yes, it hurts to have a story you spend so much time writing, rewriting, and editing get such a low score. It hurts to have so many people not just ignore, but reject your story. I try to remember that the votes are a judgement of the story and not a reflection on me.

I have a modest suggestion. Right now the stories are listed in alphabetical order within a category. Human nature suggests that many more people will read "A Night to Remember" than "Voluptuous Vixens" (I'm making these titles up). That's why all of the escort servies are listed in the yellow pages as "A A ..."

My suggestion is that that the stories should be listed in score order. The ones with less than ten votes would be first, then the worst to best stories. This would give the low scored stories more exposure, and perhaps help to move their scores up. It would also be a lot harder to score a story down, as you'd have to scroll all the way to the end of the list each time you wanted to vote. :)

Ratings

Holy crap! I made the "Hot List!"

Just checked the Celebrities Top List, and there it was. Both #1 and #4! That's awesome!

Of course, my stories also don't have nearly as many votes as a lot of the others on the list. They've stood the test of time. We'll just have to see how long I can hold out. Still, it's a great feeling.

Once again, thanks to everyone who voted!

Well, it had to happen eventually.

My third story had a rating of 4.90 after 10 votes. I was beginning to feel like I had hit a grand slam to win the World Series. Well, maybe not. Anyway, it was pretty cool.

After 12 votes, my rating is 4.58 - pretty consistent with the rest of my stories, but still something of a letdown.

Ah well. For one glorious day, at least, I was king of the world!

Take care.

Oh, Doc, chin up, love. I know it's rough. I don't even look anymore at the scores. It's just not worth getting upset about, and believe me I can really flame sometimes. Just know that it's still a good story, and maybe just perhaps someone stumbled upon and didn't like it because it was about something other than their favorite fetish... no biggie.

rankings

Myst,
I am brand new to this site and have only submitted one story. I think I became immediately addicted to this site because my story got a high ranking. I was thrilled by seeing that approval from the readers, and the ego-involvement made me watch the rankings every day. You have to admitt, that anything above a 4 is flattering, don't you?

I love your stuff, and I want you to do what the good feedback makes me want to do....write another hot story!

Aren't you a love!?! Well, since you're new here, welcome to the family, and if you need anything, just ask! And thanks for you comment about my work.. although it's been lacking lately... damn biochem tests. Hmmm.... I'll share a stupid littl secret with you: You have the same initials as my real name.... ;)

Ratings...Whatever

Getting good ratings feel nice and all but lets face it, someone is gonna chop you down just because. But like someone else said before, at least someone cares enough to read your story and reply at all.

The fact that you even made the hot list is kind of an accomplishment considering all of the competition there is on this site. But its not about competition, its about expressing yourself. That ratings thing is a little tool to keep the good writers coming back.

Me, I'd rather get some feedback and that little green e, Being HOT is great and all, but that's what means a lot to me.

True, true. Sigh.

I guess it's just being new to the site. I figure the time will come when I won't really care what the numbers are. I just haven't quite reached that point yet, darn it!

Oh well. I'll just keep writing 'em, and hopefully people will keep reading 'em!

Doc

I'm not sure that anyone has really reached that point, and I know it makes you mad to know that these people can get to you, but love, welcome to the family anyway. :)

Thanks, Myst!

Despite any disappointment I might feel about ratings, I can say that every response I've received through e-mail has been positive. So far, anyway!

The best part is that some of them have included some bit of constructive criticism, which means that they took the time to read the story. They also took the time to tell me how to improve.

I guess that's all anyone can really ask for!

Hi Myst

YIPPEE - I finally made the club - I got 1'ed! Someone cared enough to "do their worst." They either REALLY didn't like my idea of romance, or it was a confused musician who remembered that a "1" is superior in solo & ensemble competitions. Doesn't matter - I wrote what I love and posted it. That was the liberating part. Anything else is just whipped cream and sprinkles. mmmmmm good idea. perhaps I'd better go wake up himself.......

Hugs to all you fellow scribblers! And thanks so much for taking the time to share yourselves, your thoughts, your dreams, and your incredible skill.

hee hee

I'm so glad that you are not fuming Vixen, and welcome to the club, you know we're here for you.
