I have a pair of pliers in my hand, and I'm about to declaw my damn cat.

He's decided (at nearly 2 years of age) to start scratching on the furniture.

He's doing it just to annoy me, I know he is.

What can I do to stop this nasty habit now? Before he and the couch get thrown in the trash.

Just declaw him and get it over with. A house cat really doesnt need them.

Duct Tape around his paws.

I tried rubber banding his feet together, that helped for a while.

Laz I know I should, but I'm just so against it. I can't guarantee that he'll never get outside and I'd hate to leave him defenseless.

Ours uses those carpet covered posts....a little catnip does it.

The places where they scratch get "marked" so spray some repellent (in pet stores) to break the habit and they should start using the post.

Good luck , yo.

He's used a post up until now. I haven't had this much trouble out of him since he was a kitten. I really think it's an issue of his trying to get my attention, yo.

I haven't tried the spray bottle Morgaine, I'm sure I still have one around here from his kitten days.

Your choice sport.... I won't be a part of it either way.
HAH! It was a trick question. The only way to keep it on would be sticky side in! :p

Aluminum foil where he scratches...they hate the feel of that.

Also...try changing to a sisal post. Some cats do not like the feel of the carpet & need something harder to scratch on.

Just my $.02.

So you're familiar with duct tape condoms.... or is that how you keep the others from slipping off?

Anytime CG. I have had 3 older ones and now have 2 younger ones. None of them can agree on where to scratch.

BTW...have fun with Duckie. ;)
