I've noticed this on my poetry submission, because the numbers are so low anyway. I don't know if it could be happening to my other work.

A poem will say it has 10 votes and then when i look the next time it will say 3. Does anyone know why this is happening?

rumour is that Laurel edits out multiple votes or flame campaigns ( going through and voting "1" on several of an aithour's titles).

I've heard that, but I havent been involved in a flame campaign that I know of (my scores werent too bad.) If anyone is voting multiple times, I can't imagine why. It seems like a recount starts every week or so. Its never very high anyway, not that many people vote on peotry to my knowlege anyway.

I do. I liked your reference to "chocolate parfait" in All that JAZ

Many in the Hangout read poetry - and actually like it - and actually say so.

ps. and shamelessly promote it.

It might be a database problem, but it is most likely Laurel's anti-fraud campaign. I suspect that there are one or two anti-poetry trolls lurking about that down-vote poetry just because it's poetry.

I know there are people who periodically vote ones on all of the Non-consent and incest stories so it wouldn't surprise me that there are people who troll the poetry votes too.

That utterly flabbergasts me. I cannot comprehend it. I am dumbstruck.

Perdita

Maybe we could write a virus that would detect when a reader voted a 1 on 2 or more poems in a 5 minute period, then cause endless pop-ups reciting a collection of works by Browning, Cummings, Frost, all the way to Whitman (but really punish them by not letting them have St. Vincent Millay) until they give up and vote as many 5's as they voted 1's.

Honey these are probably the same folks who read your story then tell you all that is wrong with you and the characters. Those of us who live in the land of logic and intelligence would just as soon hit back before trudging thru the tripe.

Hmmmm

The trolls are working again tonight. Some jerk-off went into my profile and put a 1 in every single story. FuckWad

We've all been there. PM Laurel and she'll fix it.

Hey, for $9 we could get the name and try to get Laurel to hook-up a special link so that whenever someone votes a 1 it takes them there instead of Lit.

Then we could redirect them to http://www.rant.com/ so they could vent their feelings (they obviously aren't brave enough to do it over here).

Sometimes if the screen takes too long to load someone might hit back and try to vote again and again until it finally takes him/her to the "Thanks for voting" screen - perhaps that happened. That would be a multiple vote, maybe good instead of bad, that was just an accident and yet needed to be fixed anyway.

I think I'll keep you just to give me the benefit of the doubt.

Are multiple votes possible? I just presumed that once a vote had been placed that computer's IP was logged into the database, thus rendering it impossible to vote on the same story again. I could well be wrong, and I know there are ways around this: proxy IPs for example.

Shhhh... Don't give the scum-bag trolls any ideas. They'll do it. :(

The IP thing doesn't work since a number of ISPs have blocks of IP numbers which they assign at random. Also my better half and I share a home computer, so that would mean only one of us could vote for any one story.
