some help.....

this may confuse some but here goes.....

i want to find a program that will have anti-virus and the like but i want something that wil NOT constantly pop-up notices such as "You have 28 days until your subscription expires".


can someone recommend a program that will protect my computer but just run in the background???

Try this. It should only give you pop-up notices if it wants you to upgrade to the next version. Its totally free. Hope this is what you want.

Are you sure that's not the window that pops up to update virus definitions? That's the only one that should be popping up on AVG free. It runs as often as you set it to run automatically in the options/preferences, if I recall correctly, finishes updating the definitions, and then it's all done until the next time it's supposed to run. It takes like 30 seconds and is no big deal.

Maybe you also have another virus scan program that's running along with AVG? Last I checked, the crap like Norton and McAfee did have pop-ups saying the subscription was ending in X days and you should renew.

Next time it pops up, take a screenshot (instructions here) of it and post it here. Also, which version of AVG are you running (that info is probably under Help>About, on the screen when you first start it, or in some menu if you open the program). That'll help us see why you're getting a popup when no one else is.

That's the thing, there shouldn't be any subscription for AVG Free. If you have the "Complete Internet Security" paid version there is one, but the free version is sufficient for most people.

You could try uninstalling it and then downloading and installing the free version. The worst that can happen is you'll end up back at where you are now: upgrading to the paid version, if you don't like the free version.

I like Avira AntiVir - it has a corner pop up reminder that notifies you for updates, mine is every three days, and when you update you get one console pop up, but hey, it's free and it works great, intercepting virus's before they download, and is pretty easy to configure - I'm pretty sure you can turn the reminders off.

Also, with AVG, it does pop up a page after it does its regularly sceduled scanning, but I think would would want your antivirus to go out looking for viruses. The actual scan tends to run in the background, though.
