Laurell K. Hamilton

I never even heard of her but her Vampire Hunter books were great. The books sound a little cheesy but once I started reading them I couldn't stop. The series is a little bit of everything: sci-fi, horror, romance, detective, adventure, fantasy... I can't really say what genre they are just that they were fantastic.

:)

Does anyone else know of any good/fun books or authors?

Anthologies are best for the beach

Collections of short stories that are humorus and/or light reading are best for the beach. A really good novel will get you sunburned. :p

Esther Freisner edits an anthology series that would be good beach reading. The first in the series is Chicks in Chainmal with three sequels so far.

The short stories featuring "The ladies Aid and Armor Society" by Elizabeth Moon are the best in each volume -- Absolutley hilarious stories.

Matbe something to warm up your braincells?

Another good collection of anthologies that you might consider if you can find them.

Isaac Asimov released about a dozen collections of essays that make some interesting connections about science.

My favorites are Of Time, Space, and Other Things, Beginnings, and The Relativity of Wrong

Asimov? The name rings a bell but I can't place it... maybe from school. Thanks, I'll look into it.

:)

sigh...

..."who is Asimov?" Age really seems to be settling in.

I just rescued my copy of "Time, Space, and other Things" from a storage unit in the US a couple of weeks ago. Well worn and still as provocative today as it was decades ago.

I met Asimov in Hampton, VA for the 20th anniversary of NASA (Langley Research Center is in Hampton). What a cool guy! Wrote more than 100 books.

The late Isaac Asimov was probably the most prolific writer from the "Golden Age" of Science Fiction and you've probably heard his name in connection with "The Three Laws of Robotics." The "Laws of Robotics" have been used by many science fiction writerssince he proposed them, and are even discussed by real life robotics experts.

He also wrote essays on real science "for the masses" and had a real knack for making the most complex concepts understandable.

You may have trouble finding copeis of any of the essay collections as they have been out of print for quite a while. You probably can find volume three of his autobiography I. Asimov though. It would make good beach reading because it's very episodic and can be digested in small chunks between cooling dips in the water and applications of sunscreen.
