Some amazing stories that didn't win the Winter Holiday Contest

A number of really wonderful stories were actually voted up quite high but didn't win the contest. They are absolutely worth a read, maybe several reads if you have the time. To whit: (not in order of value, random musings)

1. Monster Munachi

Munachi was winning the Halloween contest until the last minute, then she lost it, and also did not place in the Winter Holiday contest with this frightening story. Extremely well written, about at the Colleen Thomas level if anyone has read the best of her writing. Munachi has been rooked TWICE of a rightful place in the winner's circle. Let's hope she enters the Valentine's Day contest, and that "three times the charm."

2. Faith S-Des

It goes without saying that anything S-Des does is touched with gold, and this story is no exception. A complex, dark read that holds your attention from beginning to end. I ache that this did not win the contest, few stories on Lit. are as well written as this, or as emotionally affecting.

3. Merry F....ing Christmas Smy3th

Was very high in the ratings throughout, the last unkindly sweep did this story in. A true shame, because it has everything....few, if any stories on Lit. are this compelling and expertly written to boot. A Christmas Fire is like a cake with the baking powder left out next to it, and that story was pretty darn good! Smy3th has the right to be bitter, this story had the makings of a winner from the very beginning. Just read the glowing comments if you don't believe me.

4. Run, Run Rudolph Roguelurker

It is SO hard to write a good story, with both humorous and serious elements, I was hoping this would go all the way, as it is witty, elegant, and downright moving at times. Despite not winning, it is still this author's Masterpiece, and I hope she is proud of it.

5. I believe Slycwillie

Gosh, this was good and deserved the absolutely highest rating. Very refreshing, flows beautifully, and simply put, is unforgettable. I believe in "I believe"!! A MUST read if you haven't gotten to it yet!

6. The Christmas Lantern 3113

Unfortunately, I was able to predict this almost verbatim from the 2nd page on, so that ruined the story for me. However, so many other people praised it, I feel this submission is worth a mention. Not everyone will respond to 3113's ultra ultra polished style, but for those that do, her writing brings unparalleled delights. Till Dawn, however, is in a higher league than this one, in my opinion.

7. Bed of Roses- Jack Straw

All of the Bed of Roses submissions are worth reading (Josephus, DGHear, Techsan, etc.), but in many ways this is the best because it is emotionally affecting throughout and there is hardly a phrase gone awry anywhere. How could it be rated less than 4.95? Inexplicable, as the story pretty much defies criticism. A true masterpiece!

8. Snow, Sensual Snow..... English Lady

English Lady's style of writing is consistenly well above average yet she has amazingly never won a contest. This is one of her best , sexy and profound at the same time. Deserves the highest accolades, every sentence is a joy to read. Definitely a tale to savor!!!

9. DGHear... various stories

The unsympathetic person would charge DGHear with writing in a very narrow perspective, virtually all of his stories are either Loving Wives or Non-Erotic . However, the best of his work is quite affecting, and ANYTHING he writes is worth a read, despite the occasional lapse here and there. A travesty of justice that DG has never won a contest, several of his stories are at the Daniellekitten Endless level, for example. I hope I live to see this wrong made into a right, as the author is extremely kind and has been very helpful to others.

10. Selenakittyn various stories

At the time of this writing, Selenakittyn is one of the most popular authors on Lit. No one else is as comfortable with so many styles, and no one else can write in such a consistently fascinating, entertaining way. Am I biased? ABSOLUTELY! ... and proud of it. Selenakittyn is a literary genius in every sense of the word, and her writing is like a tidal wave that sweeps everything before it. Start on Oedipal Panties, a neat little chapter series.

Congrats to all of the above. Your stories were every bit as good as the winners, if not better, and I really don't care if the winners are offended because they'll be laughing all the way to the bank anyway! Happy Holidays, everybody!

yer sweet, sweets... but honestly, these weren't nuttin' but tryin' to get me points higher for that damned OCD contest... I mean, Survivor contest... :D I'll admit it... 10 entries??? I mean come on... I just wanted the "posts next day!" deal...

and I am now officially admitting defeat... there is no way I can write enough to make it...

but I think I'm gonna take the Sam the Christmas Fairy stories and turn them into something else...

at least it wasn't a total wash!

Thanks for the mention, sweetie...

Awww thanks :)

I'm kinda glad I didn't win actually *chuckes* as the story is part of a larger novel I want to see about publising (once edited up) and if it'd won I'd have had to leave it alone for two years *L* Thanks for your lovely comments though, thats all I was in for, really. Feedback :)

Good work, Sack. You are a master at giving short reviews which are meaningful but never mean.

To Sack's list, be sure to add his entry, Alone At Christmas. It's a short, sad, superb Non-Erotic story that deftly avoids the trap of mawkish over-sentimentality while delivering a timely message.

Not being into heavy humiliation, I'll not try to follow Sack's mini-reviews with one of his own story. Instead, here's the opening line:

Only the distant waves pounding against polished rocks reminded him the end was near.

If that doesn't "hook" you into clicking on the link and checking out - ALONE AT CHRISTMAS - then you're more to be pitied than censured.

Thanks buddie, that was incredibly kind. I agree with all of your comments on the stories. I told anyone that would listen that Rogue's story should have been in the top group. I didn't read a few of the others you mentioned, but am looking forward to it now (especially Slyc's & Jack Straw's). As for SK, she knows what a stalker...er...I mean fan I am. I would give anything to be able to write an erotic scene like her. Do you think I could get her to agree to private tutoring? :p :p :p

Wow ... Sack ... thank you.

There were a number of excellent stories submitted this year ... I think the caliber of writing is rising (as well as the quantity... 140+ ?? ).

I'm glad I didn't have to evaluate all the stories in the Winter Contest. There were so many that were terrific, well written and great reads.

Congrads are in order for everyone - winners and non-winners alike

are we still talking about writing?

To Sack

Thank you, That is probably the nicest compliment I have ever recived from a fellow writer. It is truely most appreciated. Kind of leaves me lost for words which is bad coming from a supposed writer, haha. Anyway, thank you very much.

Sincerely
DG Hear
