WOW

http://cover09.cduniverse.com/MuzeVideoArt/24/219224.jpg

What a movie. It left me speecless, and with tears in my eye. It protrays very well, that an individual can over come gender differences. It is not the vessel we fall in love with but the contents of that vessel.

It also left me pondering a very disturbing thought. What type of human being can commit such un-necessary and brutal crimes against homosexuals? How can there be so much hate and rage against another individual, the only difference between them being, their sexuality? How can one bend and twist another's mind to inflict these barbarous actions? Honestly, I do not understand:(

If you have not seen this movie, I highly recommend it. Rent it ASAP, then please disscuss what yoour thoughts and reactions were.

Little about the movie

This is the tragic but true love story of Pvt Barry Winchell. Winchell was stationed in Fort Cambell Kentucky. His bunk mate and some others took him to Nashville one evening. There he falls for transgender nightclub performer. The story turn tragic when his bunk mate finds out and...........................

Let me know what you think

I heard about it when I was watching the Golden Globes and it looked good, at least acting and plot-wise, but unfortunately I haven't been able watch it. The whole idea kind of reminds me of Boys Don't Cry, which I haven't seen either, :( but want to.

I have not seen soildiers girl, but I have seen the vast majority of Boys don't cry and have to say it was an excellent film. One of the most difficult I have ever watched, but excellent. I would very much like to see Soildiers girl if I can find it.

woah, this just came up in a Marriage and the Family lecture type class that I had today. I really have to rent this movie now.

we're on gender roles and studies it fits into the course topic, i promise :)

I saw it when it first came out last year on Showtime. It is a very good movie and the Calpernia Addams role was played very well. The actor who played Calpernia's love interest (and was murdered) is the son of actress Jane Fonda. You may have seen them together at the Golden Globes red carpet show.

You can learn more at Calpernia's web site at http://www.calpernia.com/

Haven't seen it yet nor read the book, but of course want to.

Excuse me? *confused* Though I don't know all the details it seems to me such a comment is nothing more than that whole a transsexual woman is nothing more than a gay man in a dress bullshit again. If a transsexual woman has a male lover she's in hetro relationship. Heck if the male lover fully accepts and sees her as the woman she is then he's hetro or at least in a hetro relationship. So unless I'm miss something, which I admit I may be since haven't seen nor read "A Soldier's Girl", some thing's wrong on the way you word that. Transphobia not homophobia, though due to common ignorance most people see no difference.

Over the last decade, more than one person per month has died due to transgender-based hate or prejudice, regardless of any other factors in their lives. This trend shows no sign of abating. -- source: http://www.gender.org/remember/day/what.html

Yes my dear, you did mis-understand my comment. I saw Calpernia as a woman not a man, and her lover as a man who was in love with Calpernia for who she is.

The crime was commited against the young Pvt. who was viewed by his Squadron as being gay. This is the reason he was murdered.

My question was just a general one. I was not just speaking about this case. I was questioning all the murders against homosexuals. Just thinking out loud.

I saw this movie for rent in Blockbuster 2 days ago. I picked it up and read the back. I do really want to see it, but I was a cheap student and didn't. I will see it someday, but it's nice to know that it's being distributed widely for all to see. :rose:

I think you`ll find it`s in our nature to be aggresive, we are destined to destroy ourselves unless we change
