Solar Power

I too doubt the decrease in activity even if you were to tap directly from above. And as they (scientists) are worried that this super-volcano is overdue for and eruption, I think running millions, if not billions of gallons of cool water into the rock might delay the eruption another 750,000 years.

While I'm not big on the centralization of electrical power generation, that ought to keep us going for a loooooooooooooooong time.

And seeing as there is a pipeline already built across the country we could pipe in water to be used from many different sources throughout the country.

And it doesn't have to be clean. Pumping down waste water would sterilize it in a hurry!

Nobody has mentioned tidal power. While there are limits to this, as there are to everything, it could still be part of the equation.

There is enought tidal energy in the Gulf of California alone to power all of North American for the next hundred years. Good call, Box.

BTW, there's also an enormous field of natural gas underneath it. And lots of hot rock. And OTEC plants would turn Baja into a tropical paradise. Why not? It's Mexico. Sorry to sound that way but that's the truth. Mexico is its own worst enemy.

But would probably clog the pipes...

Might want to clean it up a bit be for we send it down, don't want no brown stains in my geothermal vents.

But think of the environmental help of sending the sewage water of several large cities straight down the pipes.

Although the eruptions would prolly look like a million peoples having projectile
diarrhea all at once.

Could be a great new tourist attraction. Watch "Old Brown Faithful" erupt, but stand waaaay back.

:D

Currently Mexican oil fields continue to decline. There's no mystery as to why it's happening, Mexico need US drilling expertise. However, the Mexican oil cartel Pemex won't allow any foreign intrusion into their private world. It's also obvious that they won't allow any foreign intrustion that might undermine their private world.

Yeah, any foreign engineers might be followed by foreign financial analysts who would start asking pointed questions about why all this money isn't doing more for the Mexican economy at ground level instead of along the Yucatan Riviera.

It's just so sad.

Try Yellowstone National Park, you know, the one with the geysers, I believe there is a hot spot in the mantle there seeing as it's probably the larges caldera in the world.

The Yellowstone caldera would be one of those "relatively limited on this continent" places I mentioned in the earlier post. The crust isn't necessarily thinner there; there's been magma intrusion from the mantle. The geysers are a perfect example a geothermal reservoir.

Do you mean that there's [GASP!] corruption in the Mexican government?

I'll make a minor point— Pemex is not a cartel; it is 100% owned by the Mexican government. Under the Mexican constitution, no foreign entities are permitted to own any Mexican hydrocarbon resources. Since the Mexican government has used Pemex as a piggy bank to fund the government, Pemex hasn't been left with capital to spend on exploration. The constitutional prohibition against foreign ownership eliminates the possibility of outside involvement in exploration.

I think that's one of the things I was implying, or at least tried to. "Fund the government" in Mexico means fatten the politicians first and others things manana, maybe!
