Which type of sex scene do you prefer to write and why?

I find that I struggle with the soft & slow stuff -- I get bored and want to hurry things along.

Mood dependent. I will be very pleased when I have finished the Anglo-Saxon story; its rough, wild, and furious sex scenes should be a nice antidote to the extreme "soft focus" of the "Sweetness and Servitude" chapters. Hmmm. Maybe I ought to put a warning label on it?

It's a catch-22 for me. If I write soft & slow I get feedback that says too drawn out. If I write fast & furious I get the slow down, it's too rushed feedback.

As far as writing it, it basically depends on the story. It's like real life, I like it both ways. ;)

I write dreamy stuff, but the hard-against-the-wall sex makes me all warm and tingly. ;)

Hm. Interesting question. The Screening is a long drawn out 13 page sensory sex experience, and most readers have enjoyed that. No one has ever complained about the drawn outness, and it is my best story. You PC'd and did not find yourself bored? And it does repeat in part from different perspectives?

Expressway and Tango I experimented. Expressway from a very fast lead, to a very slow fisting scene. Tango, a lot of lead up, but very quick, as in the dance, sex scene . . . Expressway went over better?

Sex, as Shanglan states, depends on the mood. A short story, for me . . . needs to get to the point, and everything must be there, engaging. There is not a lot of room for 2 lit pages of background for me to enjoy reading, nor do I want to write it. The thing I enjoy the most are those writers who get into the action, not sex, but create a milieu without TELLING me. Jump in . . . it is 1792 and you know it in the first three paragraphs . . . ????

Samples here. Feel free to just skip to the "good parts."

In contrast, the one I am working on now is extreme slow burn. It's halfway through the story (25 pages) and we're still at the touching-and-pretending-it's-totally-innocent stage. With reason - it is a hanging offense - but it's an amusing contrast nonetheless.

I'm usually slow to get my leads in the sack, even when they're going to be hot and heavy when they get there. I guess it's the suspense I like - that and the heightening of desire by the difficulty of consummating it. Or something.

Perhaps I'm simply weak at getting to the point?

I find both too cliched. I'd prefer to do either a Fast and Slow scene, or Soft and Furious.

So that brings up something interesting.

One of the first pieces I wrote when I first started writing again is exactly that... a hard-against-the-wall sex scene. Literally.

I love this piece.
But no one else seems to.

It's about 800 words and it's just sex (with a vaguely implied plot somewhere) but I wrote it very lyrically.

I've debated submitting it here, but can't decide whether to post it as a story or a poem. It seems to be somewhere in between.

Anyone have any ideas?

RL sex usually has far too much plot for my liking

(edited to add)

I wouldn't worry, if it's over 800 words. Does any of it rhyme? If so, put it in poetry.

I agree!

No, none of it rhymes.
But it's structured weird.

Maybe I'll sit on it a while longer.
And maybe if I do that, it'll start to vibrate.
And then I'll never want to make a decision.

Seems like the best plan to me.

well your last post could certainly go in the poetry category. Is that what your 800 worder is like?

Sorry for being so disjointed.
I'm ovulating again.
Makes me seem drunk - just ask Carson.

Yeah, my story is kinda like this.
I was ovulating when I wrote it too.

Fuck, I better get off of here before I make an ass of myself.
Thanks for the input.

Just before you go,
Id love to know how ovulation
Can produce such stanzas.

In my case, it produces
Insomnia and heavy drinking for the ovulatee (me).

Take a look at my piece entitled "Allure" -- it's barely 750 words. I debated on submitting it as a poem (after modifying the structure a little bit). Glad I didn't. I don't think it'd be doing anywhere near as well.

There's no plot. No story. Just a bunch of babbling "I wants" -- but I like it anyway.

Don't know if that helps you at all ...

I don't know. My synapses just seem to not quite fire properly.
Between stuffing my face with chocolate and trying not think about sex until after the kids are asleep, I can't concentrate on anything.

And yes, it produces insomnia for me as well. But I'm single. So I have to just deal with myself.
Also, my temper flares.
And I have anxiety shit that happens...

It's a good time.
Too bad it only happens once every 28 days...

Nice piece Imp! Thanks for sharing.
Wanna take a peek at mine? I could email it to you...

I try to shoot for somewhere in the middle. When I do hit the extreme at either end, I make sure I balance it out with the opposite extreme next time.
While I haven't gotten any compliments on my sex scenes, I haven't gotten any complaints, either. No news is good news, right? :D

As long as their hot I'm happy. Theres got to be loads of passion (I hope there always is) and if there is i can do slow or fast. It has to be hot though :)
