California voters overwhelmingly approved a repeal of the once hugely popular three strikes law by a greater than 2 to 1 margin.

They also very nearly voted to ban the death penalty, with a shocking 47% voting to repeal it, despite vocal public opposition to the initiative from a bi-partisan group of ex-governors.

Some claim it was a "fiscal" vote due to the cost of incarceration or pursuing capital punishment.

It seems they fail to see the costs of letting repeat criminals back into society.

might also because any criminologist will tell you " tough on crime" programs don't work... but hey, you have an opinion and opinions are facts in your world

The three-strikes law was stupid and needed to go. Aside from the fact that research showed that it had no impact on decreasing crime, it led to excessive incarcerations of people who posed no danger to society.

Abortion is what makes a dent in crime. Nip a Nigga in the bud and life is good.

Soft or hard on crime is irrelevant. Smart on crime would be nice.

We oughta be buying Nigga wombs rather than Nigga pistols.

Not to mention a lot of those '3 strike' offenders were drug users, not violent criminals. It takes a lot of the manpower off stupid shit and puts it where it needs to go- reducing actual crime.

You're living in a fantasy if you think smart on crime is actually going to make much headway. Pandering and appearance are too important to let substance (intelligence) get in the way.
But I agree, it would be nice.

Exactly. Doesn't translate to soft on crime. Just sanity.
