that's what they call you when you're old and still a tomboy.

<grin>

I think I'm ok with that.

this is soooo like deja vous, or an echo...

<grin>

It's about 20 years old.

Does anyone really use the term 'soft butch'? Its tough to imagine a dumber phrase pouring from one's mouth.

I thought those older tomboys were just the ladies guys like me lusted after?

that's me, queen of the dumb phrase. You did seem to like it when we had the phone sex.

that's devastating. i thought perquita just made it up. but i guess twenty years ago, i didn't know that many "tomboys," of whatever age. i was hanging with corner crack hos on eleventh ave.

edited for spelling and to say that twenty years ago i knew a lot more tomboys than professional girls, but it seemed funny at the time, but doesn't now that i see it posted.

It is kind of a funny term, but I can totally see how someone would see Perky that way.

Correct me if I'm wrong...but wouldn't that put kd lang into this "soft butch" category?? She doesn't seem soft to me at all.

Yes.

How about: My heart is a bitter buffalo running off a cliff.

"I thought those older tomboys were just the ladies guys like me lusted after?"
Age does not a soft butch make.

Well, you are tomboyish, and when you're with women you take on the more masculine role. Does that make sense?

<grin> mmm hmmmmm. That works for me.

Who? Why?

Thats just mean.

Im only going on perky's definition which specifically referred to age.

it's only a partial definition.

It's me, I'm a dumb phrase.

Modest Mouse,
Lesbains use all sorts of odd sounding phrases. Such as:
Granola Femme
Tomboy Femme
Femme
Soft Butch
Boi
Butch
Baby Butch
Hard Butch
Bulldagger
Stone Butch
Daddy Dyke

I've never heard the phrase 'soft butch' used simply because a woman was older. I have been told that I'm a soft butch and that was when I only 19.

As for the lyrics. I think they're silly sounding but I actually like them.

Maybe it's just older than a "tomboy," i.e., post-adolescent?

Ok, Never. I'm showing some of my ignorance (there is more where this came from) but 'soft butch' is totally new to me. My first impression is that its lame, but obviously Im lacking any context. Lesbian subculture is something I'm not privy to.

I did have a boss who referred to herself as a 'bull dyke'. She seemed to embrace that particular phrase. I mostly got a kick out of talking about women with her. I was only 18 at the time so it was all rather fun.

Anyway, now that Ive rambled and said nothing.

Agreed on the lyrics. Alone they sound contrived but within the song they work. I'm a bit biased though.
