Who said it best?

"The problem is not that socialism has been poorly implemented, but that socialism has been faithfully implemented" --Trump

"The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings; the inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of miseries." -- Winston Churchill

"The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money." -- Margaret Thatcher

“The champions of socialism call themselves progressives, but they recommend a system which is characterized by rigid observance of routine and by a resistance to every kind of improvement. They call themselves liberals, but they are intent upon abolishing liberty. They call themselves democrats, but they yearn for dictatorship. They call themselves revolutionaries, but they want to make the government omnipotent. They promise the blessings of the Garden of Eden, but they plan to transform the world into a gigantic post office." -- Ludwig von Mises

"The goal of socialism is communism." -- Vladimir Lenin

"Socialists cry 'Power to the people', and raise the clenched fist as they say it. We all know what they really mean--power over people, power to the State." -- Margaret Thatcher

Gemeinutz geht vor Eigennutz (i.e., the commonweal ranks above private profit).
Nazi economic slogan
Ludwig von Mises, Socialism

Socialism, like the ancient ideas from which it springs, confuses the distinction between government and society. As a result of this, every time we object to a thing being done by government, the socialists conclude that we object to its being done at all. We disapprove of state education. Then the socialists say that we are opposed to any education. We object to a state religion. Then the socialists say that we want no religion at all. We object to a state-enforced equality. Then they say that we are against equality. And so on, and so on. It is as if the socialists were to accuse us of not wanting persons to eat because we do not want the state to raise grain.

Frederic Bastiat, The Law

The Political Spectrum For Total Morons

“It is a pity... that more politicians are not bastards by birth instead of vocation.” —Katherine Whitehorn

Politics is so confusing, especially when you try to figure out just where someone is on the political map. So many political maps are not just two-dimensional, like flat toilet paper, but bipolar, like a manic-depressive mass-murderer. There really ARE more positions than just CONSERVATIVE vs. LIBERAL. But in modern America, the others just don't count. Bother.

Politics is so confusing, so here are a number of items that can help you tell the difference between liberals and conservatives, and maybe others. Good luck, sucker.

LIBERALS

•"In every American community you have varying shades of political opinion. One of the shadiest of these is the LIBERALS. An outspoken group on many subjects - ten degrees to the left of center in good times, and ten degrees to the right of center if it affects them personally." --Phil Ochs

•"A LIBERAL is someone who has just changed their mind." --Morton Thompson
•"A LIBERAL is a man too broadminded to take his own side in a quarrel. --Robert Frost
•"A LIBERAL is a RADICAL with a wife and child." --Anon.
•"A RADICAL is a CONSERVATIVE out of a job." --Richmond News Ledger

•"SOCIALISTS suffer from an overwhelming compulsion to believe what is not true." --H.L. Mencken
•"SOCIALISM is a system which is workable only in Heaven, where it isn't needed, and in Hell, where they've got it." --Cecil Palmer

“Sure, once I was young and impulsive,
I wore every conceivable pin,
Even went to the socialist meetings,
Learned all the old union hymns,
But I've grown older and wiser,
And that's why I'm turning you in,
So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal.”
--Phil Ochs

CONSERVATIVES

•"A CONSERVATIVE is a man who is too cowardly to fight and too fat to run." --Elbert Hubbard
•"A CONSERVATIVE is one who admires RADICALS a century after they're dead." --Leo C. Rosten
•"CONSERVATIVES say government doesn't work, and then get elected and prove it." --P.J. O'Rourke
•"All CONSERVATISM is based upon the idea that if you leave things alone you leave them as they are. But you do not. If you leave a thing alone, you leave it to a torrent of change." --G.K. Chesterton
•"CONSERVATIVE: a statesman who is enamoured of existing evils, as distinguished from the LIBERAL, who wishes to replace them with others." --Ambrose Bierce
•"Reform is affirmative, CONSERVATISM negative; CONSERVATISM goes for comfort, reform for truth." --Ralph Waldo Emerson
•"The CONSERVATIVE is a businessman's candidate, hovering around the status quo like a sick kitten around a hot brick." --William A. White
•"A CONSERVATIVE is one who believes that nothing should be done for the first time." --Alfred E. Wiggam

•"A shiver ran through the CONSERVATIVES, frantically looking for a spine to run up." --Oliver Brown

ULTRA-CONSERVATIVES

•"A FASCIST is someone who kills because he can't argue." --Anon.
•"FASCISM is Capitalism plus murder." --Upton Sinclair
•"FASCISM is corporatism." --Benito Mussolini
•"FASCISM means war." --John Strachey
•"The ANARCHIST is responsible only to himself; the FASCIST is responsible only to the state." --Anon.
•"FASCISM is a religion; the twentieth century will be known in history as the century of FASCISM." --Benito Mussolini
•"A FASCIST is any person whose politics elevates the importance of one's nation, or Fatherland, above all humanist values such as television and Spring Break." --Anon.

LIBERALS vs. CONSERVATIVES

•"When CONSERVATIVES ruin the environment, destroy the supply of affordable housing, and wreck the industrial infrastructure, at least they make a buck off it. LIBERALS do these things just for fun." --P.J. O'Rourke

•"I never dared be RADICAL when young / For fear it would make me CONSERVATIVE when old." --Robert Frost
•"Every COMMUNIST has a FASCIST frown, every FASCIST has a COMMUNIST smile." --Muriel Spark

•"I'm a staunch Independent. Every time I think I am a Republican, they do something greedy, and every time I think I am a Democrat, they go and do something stupid." --Jay Leno
•"The difference between REPUBLICANS and DEMOCRATS is like the difference between Syphilis and Gonorrhea." --Barbara Jordan
•"The smart woman will fuck a LIBERAL but marry a CONSERVATIVE." --Anon.

“When asked why he was a Democrat, the Southerner replies, "Because my father was a Democrat and my grandfather was a Democrat." The Northerner countered, "What if your father was a horse thief and your grandfather was a horse thief, what would you have been then?" The Southerner's reply: "In that case, I guess I'd be a Republican." --Theodore Roosevelt

TELLING THE DIFFERENCE

•An American who wants to protect the environment is a Tree-Hugging LIBERAL, unless they hunt animals, in which case they're CONSERVATIVE.
•An American who supports the right to keep and bear arms is CONSERVATIVE, unless they belong to the Black or Brown or Yellow Panthers, in which case they are dangerously RADICAL.
•An American who opposes large military forces and expenditures is LIBERAL, unless they lived before 1940, in which case they were CONSERVATIVE.
•An American who wants religious faith to be prominent in public life is a staunch CONSERVATIVE, unless they aren't a Judeo-Xian-Muslim believer, in which case they are an air-head NEW-AGE RADICAL.
•An American who wants government oversight of private decisions is LIBERAL, unless they oppose abortion, in which case they are religious RIGHT-WING RADICALS.
•An American who wants lower income-tax withholding is CONSERVATIVE, but one who wants lower social-security withholding is LIBERAL.
•An American who supports equality for women is a LIBERAL Feminist, unless they're a Republican campaign consultant who wants their candidate to win, in which case they're a Pragmatic CONSERVATIVE.
•An American who supports their local police is CONSERVATIVE, unless the local police are dealing drugs, in which case they're LIBERTATIAN.
•An American who believes "the least government is the best government" is either a LIBERTATIAN CONSERVATIVE or a RADICAL ANARCHIST, depending on their dress and income.

GENERALIZATIONS

•Those who care about people before they are born are CONSERVATIVES; those who care about people after they are born are LIBERALS.
•Those who believe in a strong military are PATRIOTS, unless they've personally avoided military service, in which case they are CHICKENHAWKS.
•Those who want strict limits to immigration are CONSERVATIVES, unless they want to exclude your particular ethnic group, in which case they are RACISTS
•Those who want unlimited immigration are LIBERALS, unless they want cheap labor to exploit, in which case they are CONSERVATIVE CAPITALISTS. Or if they want purple cows to inflate, in which case they are SURREALISTS.
•Those who want to display the Ten Commandments in public places are CONSERVATIVES; but different sects can't agree on just which version to use. And then there are those who want the QURAN or DIAMOND SUTRA or NECRONIMOCON posted...
•Those who believe in a corporate state are FASCISTS, unless they back the current administration, in which case they are PRAGMATISTS.
•Those who disagree with you are COMMUNISTS, unless you're a COMMUNIST, in which case they are FASCISTS. Or unless you're an ATHEIST, in which case they're RELIGIOUS FANATICS. Or unless you're a VEGETARIAN, in which case they're CARNIVORES. Et cetera.

“The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.” —H.L. Mencken

Margaret Thatcher: a life in quotes

"There is no such thing as society."

Cunt Thatcher

"They are casting their problems at society. And, you know, there's no such thing as society. There are individual men and women and there are families. And no government can do anything except through people, and people must look after themselves first. It is our duty to look after ourselves and then, also, to look after our neighbours." – in an interview in Women's Own in 1987

And that's the Guppy position too. To a 'conservative' there is no such thing as "We, the People," merely owners and owned, bosses and disposable servants. No public interest exists, only private interests whose gains somehow trickle-down to the masses. Public health and welfare? Fuck-em.

That notable commie Bismarck instituted social welfare programs in the German Empire, not because he was queer for proletarians, but because 1) healthier, happier workers are more productive workers who pay more taxes, and 2) healthier, happier workers are less likely to revolt and slaughter the owners and aristos. USA 'conservatives' can't seem to absorb such reasoning.

Nurture society, and it flourishes. Sicken society, and it dies. Your choice.

Sure they can, they just don't see that as an American thing.

The US was never about building the ultimate society to the glory of the state.

"The goal of socialism is communism." -- Vladimir Lenin. That pretty much says it. Stalin fucked it up. By why...?

LMFAO....no....socialism fucked it up.

Turns out people aren't too keen on working themselves to death and starvation for the greater good.

Questions:

How many times has the US invaded Russia?
At least once, in the 1918-1920 anti-Bolshevik invasions.

How many times has Russia invaded the US?
None, since we bought Alaska.
The Russian state is unstable. Numerous nationalities with their own interests, scattered across a huge chunk of Earth, with an unsustainable export economy and little internal development. Russia (the empire) will die soon. Question is, who will they take with them?

Talk about willful ignorance...

My understanding of the topic is that communism is a system that relies on human selflessness, while capitalism relies on human greed. So naturally capitalism is more successful.

Again, we cannot discuss Capitalism without a pejorative view.

... while Capitalism relies on human self interest.

In the former, the selflessness has to be enforced by ruthless force. In the latter, self interest enforces cooperation and this is what creates Capital. Not greed, but people working together in their self interest to better themselves.

Your understanding is warped.

Would you rather live in a capitalist or communist society?

How many of it’s own people have Communist countries slaughtered?

In hindsight, greed was probably the wrong word. I fully agree that capitalism, although it is not without flaws, is the better system.

Libertarian-oriented folks, definitely anti-socialists, seem to want unregulated capitalism. Adam Smith, the prophet of capitalism, demanded that it be closely regulated to preclude cartels and engineered market domination. They want the game without the rules. Feh.

That's a slander.

You don't care enough to listen to a Libertarian to even begin to understand their philosophy on the role of government and the role of business. You're bigoted, your mind is set in stone and there is no way that you're going to give up on your dreams and goals of using government to make life "fair."

It seems to have Libertarians confused with Anarchists. You know the Anarchists that have joined with the Communists in antifa and BLM.

What the schools turn out these days.

No, they know it's not the truth, but they, with every subject, seem determined to create alternative definitions in order to make dialog impossible and force others to defend themselves rather than have an honest discussion on any topic.
