Social Experiment: Community Ignore

Due to events and issues regarding AH community opinions and "unspoken guidelines" this thread is intended to illustrate in one place why some community members feel it necessary to suggest, if not insist that some other community members go on ignore for a sense of public good.

This is entirely voluntary and intended to support some community members who feel they and others have been unfairly attacked in ways that if they do not meet the criteria of forum banning, they still deserve some measure of comment and explanation.

This thread is intended as a reference for such grievances, to keep other threads clear, and hopefully provide some sort of "Library of Grief" for new or old members or those wishing to post here to reference.

Please feel free to use this thread to express yourself and your reasons pro or con, for "community ignore."

As there's no real enforceable quality to this, I won't pretend to have any, or be any sort of authority.

The intent is to act as private citizens of the AH, and I'm one of them.

Names will be added when links are provided, not just suggestions.

Suggested:

BOSTONFICTIONWRITER
bsergi1
Grand_High_Poobah
sarahhh
scouries
wmrs2
elfin odalisque
stella omega
selena kitt
JAMESBJOHNSON

Please search the thread for specifics. Members of the AH are suggested to just post a link to this thread instead of argue within a specific thread itself.

Please keep ignore consistent. Do not respond to people you suggest be ignored. If you take them off ignore, also let that be known and why.

These people are sociopaths. they have no concept of boundaries, and see the internet as their personal playpen. They seem to think that every user here is merely a construct for their abusive fun.

I keep amicus on ignore as well, once in a while I'll look at one of his posts and sometimes even answer it-- but then he's back on ignore.

I have them on ignore already, but I did notice and perhaps it's because one of the above hasn't recently posted there, that the scouries thread was moved back to the Story Feedback forum.

But I'm still wondering how we can inform newbies of the ones who need to be ignored automatically to keep it a community effort. I mean if we outright mentioned the names, we'd be giving them what they want....attention.

Diva, you posted first in this thread. Would you be willing to keep a list, at the top, of people on ignore?

My recommendation would be to just post a link to this thread and leave it at that whenever you feel an objection rising. Document it here, and let people do their own leg work if they so choose.

Sure.

I'm sure my name will make it onto that suggested list, making it even more fun :)

Opening post edited.

Giving the authority / responsibility to one person is not what I think is best.

I think each person can keep their post in this thread updated and point to it in reference.

I sometimes wish there was a botton so that only the people I like can read what I post.

Stella, will you give thread specifics as to why this is your viewpoint?

Just post a few of what you consider to be the worst of the worst so folks have examples.

Yup, that's the intention. Documentation is the purpose. Not authority.

An Oubliette of sorts. Drop it here, forget about it out there.

I have only ever had one person on ignore, and that was Brinnie, when she started those scatological posts. I dislike some of the other members, and find them offensive, but not enough yet for me to put them on ignore.

Hard to keep a 'reference' list if people have to wade... but it's up to you guys. Perhaps if we post the user who is ignoring, and then the users who are being ignored at the top, like we keep track of chain stories at the top? (social experiment glitch number one... )

I have to say, with all due respect, that one does not always get to pick and choose who comprises a "community", unless you start your own. In an open community there are always going to be dedicated assholes and off days for everybody - you ignore attention whoring by... ignoring it.

But by all means, let the experiment continue.

Entirely valid and supported.

This isn't enforceable. Just a convention that might give some people an opportunity to express their reasoning and not have to continually justify it.

Well, that's why I suggested a list at the top and then anyone interested to search the thread for specific user names if curious.

Shouldn't be too tough to find one way or the other.

Ok, scenario:

Everyone on that reference list up there turns around and points a finger to, say, Stella, who in the heat of moment has said something that is objectionable to some of us according to the same rules that we find content written by BFW, etc. objectionable. Would Stella find her way to that list? And when I direct people to that list, will they read about Stella. If that's the case, this system is NOT working for me.

What I propose:

I keep a list of people I find objectionable. I update my post when and if I feel I need to (Like the AH directory). I reference people to MY post when I object to something elsewhere. This will make people judge the case for themselves without wading too much into the thread to see who nominated who on the basis of what and if it is indeed a case they should ignore or it's just more shit-stirring.

Absolutely, and I agree.

But even a minority gets a vote and here's what's been missing. A suggestion box. Don't suggest or do suggest. But it at least is an outlet.

Then Stella goes on ignore by the user proposing her.

Putting up here gets some shutting up here.

Do it however you choose. I'm open to several streams of input and that's the intent.

I am sure Stella will stand up to research.
