...after several months of being unemployed, sending out thousands of resumes, going to a hundred interviews for jobs I didn't get and still don't understand why, I took a job with a local cable TV installation contractor. Not what i would consider my ideal job, but I've done it before and I'm good at it. I interviewed last tuesday and was pretty much hired before I even got in the door. Started the next day and was surprised that this company had better pay and fewer hours than the last company I did this for so, I was willing to accept this as a semi long term job.

Last Friday while I was at my new job, I got a phone call. Naturally I wasn't home to take it. I got the message when on Saturday afternoon. "This is Jennifer from Intellex Inc. We had interviewed you for a position a couple months ago and we are now prepared to make you an offer. Please call me back today or we will have to move on to the next person on our list."

AAAAARRRRGGHHH!!!!!

Now understand, I had sent a resume to this company in the middle of April. A week later they sent me a technical evaluation test that I had to take and send back to them within 24 hours. I did so. They called me two weeks later to tell me I had passed (I found out later I had aced their test and then some) and they wanted to set a time for a phone interview which we did a couple days later and it went very well. Once again weeks passed with no word from them and I assumed they had passed me up. Then in July they called me to set a time for a face to face interview in their Indianapolis office. Well, I'm surprised to hear from them but, sure, I'd be glad to drive 4 hours over there for an interview. They even payed me $50 for my travel expenses. The interview again went very well and they even took me out to lunch at a nice steak house. The last thing their VP of Operations said to me that day was, "I look forward to working with you soon."

So, after I have given up on them again, (and I really, REALLY wanted that job) I missed the phone call that would have sealed the deal. Words cannot express the devastation I felt. But I was not going to give up that easy. So on Monday morning I called them, explained my situation and told them I really wanted to work for them.

They made me an offer (a bloody GOOD offer) and I accepted it. So yesterday was my last day at my "New" job and I'm fairly sure that was the shortest period I have ever held a position with a company. Wednesday I go back to Indianapolis to start a long term project with Intellex Inc. It's going to mean a lot of travel for a while but they are paying all expenses and I could use the time away right now.

I still don't know why it took so long. I still don't understand why I seemed to have had leprosy when it came to finding a job. At this point it doesn't matter, I'm just glad to be back to work doing what I like.

Let me explain the dynamics here. When you don't have a job, nobody wants to hire you. [Maybe they do suspect that you have leprosy.] As soon as you get a job, everyone wants to hire you. [It is an urban legend that getting a job cures leprosy.]
