It actually is true. It irritated the hell out of me when my kindergarten teacher gave me that advice when I complained a girl had called me a name. I was looking for something worse to call her. I got over it.

I can't determine who is racist without seeing a pattern of the behavior -- the mean and ignorant behavior. An insult need not be followed with the same lack of character. Mustering personal integrity can do so much.
