So when will the Dems forgive defaulted student loans to buy their vote?

It's only a matter of time. That's probably one of many schemes they'll spring on us before the election.

I wish miles were a high ranking Democrat. He has so many good schemes our leaders refuse to pull that would make winning so much easier. Oh wait. . .we have the youth vote and the educated vote! This is like paying for the milk after you buy the cow!

Though something does need to be done about student loans and college fees eventually.

Easy...a wave of the magic wand....just like everything else Dems do.

Dear God please come run as a Democrat. We'd win if someone on our side had the balls to say the smart shit you just said.

Most likely, the students will just deem themselves free of the loans and no one in the bureaucracy will lift a finger to collect the money. There's too many, you can't round them up, you can't throw them in jail, so we will be hammered relentlessly to offer them an amnesty.

;) ;)

Well that's already happening by and large for exactly those reasons. So the question is whether you think that is a long term workable plan or if we can do better.

Let's see... Republicans control the House and the Senate, and are hoping to gain the White House. My guess is that the GOP will be the first to try buying votes.

Be fair Master Baggins. Republicans are too stupid to buy votes. OR what the rest of us call look out for the best interests of American Citizens.

How about making them compete for their money instead of guaranteeing them fuck tons of it through government programs which students have to pay back using a degree that makes them 7.50/hr?

OH NOEZ!! NOT THAT!! Then how would the LWCJ get their billionz if they can't sell '14th Century Black Lesbian Female Russian Literature' degrees for more 150,000 dollars each???

;)

Much like the guy with the 750 dollar pill that should be 13.50 the ONLY REASON IN THE WORLD they get to charge what they do is because they KNOW the US government will pay it. Even if they could no one in their right mind would pay the idiot pricing they put out. Our current higher education situation isn't a damn bit different....

Take the bullshit funding away and the price will come down.....or no one will go to the school.

A large swath of economic enslavement happens at Universities across M'uricuh, and it's pretty much entirely the LWCJ's fault.

We tried that in the past. And nobody went to school except the extremely wealthy. Being able to READ was such a rare skill that the reason people think books are superior to movies is a hold over from when any idiot could go to the movies but books were rare and expensive and being able to read was far from universal. Maybe it would play out differently this time. A century is a long time but we have tried that path before and seen where it leads.

And those studies ARE important and should exist.

Students do compete for dollars as is. There just aren't nearly enough dollars and seats to go around. The schools have no particularly good reason to produce more seats when they can charge whatever they want for the existing seats and people will pay it because it's the best bet you ahve for getting any success out of life. Most of these big colleges are older than anything we would call liberalism. Harvard was established in 1636! Well before the Department of Education, the GI Bill or any of the other "liberal" policies kicked in to help. Now the laws of Supply and Demand state that sometime over the last 400 years they should have opened a new campus (or you know thousand) and they have not. Unless their standards are literally you must be in the .000000000001% percentile to teach there making it literally impossible to open another campus because doing so would require you to accept people in the .0000000000011% percentile there is no excuse except the reality. Capitalism does not work at all times for all things.

Education appears to be like healthcare or basic security. It's something people need not something they want. We can look at results in much of Europe and much of Asia to prove that clearly on the scale of socialism-capitalism that we are erring to close to Capitalism to maximize results.

Which is not to say there shouldn't be competition or that you shouldn't be able to pay and pay well for get products. That however cannot be the first last and only thing we look at. Not when we're falling behind in every measurable category. Call me crazy when I start losing a contest and the rules let me copy from the guy winning the race I copy until I find a better plan (if such a thing exists.)

Bullshit, my father was a broke ass immigrant and did just fine going to uni back in the 60's.

He got an engineering degree and paid for it working a minimum wage job. ;)

Can't do that anymore....gotta go hock your ass over to the US government for ASTRONOMICAL amounts of debt if you want a degree.

Better off being a plumber than an educated person these days.

Students do compete for dollars as is.

But the schools don't...and that's the problem.

The schools have no particularly good reason to produce more seats when they can charge whatever they want for the existing seats and people will pay it because it's the best bet you ahve for getting any success out of life.

They can only charge anything close to what they do because the government foots the bill.

And people pay it only because once again the government foots the bill.

This is exactly like my 12,000 MRI (that only cost 700 bucks when paying cash) and the 750 dollar pill that dickhead ran the price up on.

The ONLY way that shit happens is because gubbmint funding/legal constructs allow it....

We aren't even remotely close to capitalism in HC/Education...if it were capitalist the government wouldn't pay them six figures for degrees not worth the paper they are printed on. We went to far with liburhul feel goods and now we are paying an astor-fucking-nomical price for buuu shit education.

If there is any capitalism in this situation it's in that these companies/organizations pay senators to fuck everyone in their favor. Otherwise there is no capitalism in the situation.....it's a hyper expensive government construct that charges 110 grand for a degree in "No one is paying me to use this, it's just for fun".

Post another article from The Onion because you believe it, Miles. That was epic.

Oh please tell me that's true. I love when people do that.
There's a few fake news sites out there that people will cite as legit and it is ALWAYS funny.

Absolutely true. It said something bad about Obama, so Miles swallowed it hook, line, sinker, rod and creel.

I'll take your word for it, after all I'm sure you actually spoke with your father in detail about how he financed things that were done before you were born. I know I've talked to my dad about those things.

However seeing how you're not a retard, your dad became an engineer and thus is not a retard I must question why He left money on the table that was specifically earmarked for geeks who wanted to get into math and science. Or why it was necessary for the government to step in at all if schools weren't limited to only a particular group of people and in order to keep pace with the Commies who effectively said "fuck the cost educate these clowns so we cah haz space travel!" we had to adopt a similar strategy or be left behind.

I also must have you mistaken for someone else. Coulda sworn Botany Boy was one of the people who acknowledged that Silicon Valley being in the state that poured money into education like it was nobody's tommorow so kids could go virtually free wasn't a coincidence, it was a logical outcome of having more people able to go to college.

The best part is since the only people he doesn't have on iggy is AJ, Ishtard, dizzybooby and himself, the Onion thread will always be on his front page.

He claimed to iggy me without any interaction at all. If he really does that then I can only imagine his very narrow view of the board.

The problem the GOP has is that when you give a break to the rich, there just aren't that many rich people who vote.
