Okay, I have a question for all the veteran authors here.....

My two stories are relatively new, and I'm not really sure whether the score/# of views is considered decent or not. The numbers are:

story posted 4/5/04
- score: 4.38
- votes: 21

story posted4/10/04
- score: 4.50
- votes: 28

I was pleased with the numbers, considering how new I am to anyone in the general public reading this type of my work, but I've read other posts where these aren't considered that good.....would love to hear other's views......

Anything that is attached with comments is the best indicator to me :) Good or ill. I'm not a numbers girl. I know how good I am. ;)

I've gotten some really nice feedback, including one from someone who called himself my "devoted fan", which could be scary, but actually delighted me.

After lots of maths and hard sums I've worked out that my average voting thingy is about 4 - 5%. Yours seems to be about 2%. Make of that what you will.
Don't forget I don't actually know what I'm doing or if working out percentages is votes/views X 100/1.
Or I may be completely bonkers.

p.s. to Gauche: you can't be bonkers, you're the sanest person I know here (well by my definition, or needs ;) ).

He writes, he scores.........

I find that I like to review my scores, reads, etc.

Early in the game, I kept track of how many new reads occurred over the weekend versus the week days......

How many votes came with what level of reads.....

vote capture rate........

And now I have 2 stories out of 16 that did not get "H"'s. I was off my game. Something is wrong......

Must be a reader problem....... maybe...... does it really matter?

Scores and reads are important, but now I just review for fun, to see if there are still reads, but the scores have stayed high!

Not that it concerns me......... HA:D

What's a story???

It's when people write fictional tales, hon. I know... completely alien concept to you. ;)

I used to pay close attention to scores and read counts. Then I figured out that while sometimes they are good, and that little (H) tagged on once in a while gives me a warm fuzzy feeling, it is not really an indicator of much other than those who voted.

I have some stories that have held up in scoring over the year or so they have been up...that is also not indicative of much, since the reads haven't gone up a noteable amount.

Public comments...well I have been thinking of turning them off since two things I have noticed have happened.

First, way more negatvie comments are showing up from anon. and second, my feedbacks have dropped to almost nothing. I like opening my e-mail to see feedbacks in my inbox. Since I work for fifteen days on and can't access lit during that time it gives me a contact of sorts.

Cloudy,

In my humble opinion, those are good numbers. The scores won't win many contests, but they also won't qualify you for the coveted last place dis-honor. :) What's more, you've already piled up a respectable number of views and votes.

I once ran a very rough survey and a little over 30 percent of Lit stories have a score of 4.50 or better, thereby earning an "H". About half of all stories score 4.00 or better. While nailing a high score is fun, the number of responses, views, and votes can often give you a better idea how your stories are doing.

In your case, they're doing fine.

Well, we can all agree that 5.0 on 10,000 votes on 100,000 reads would be good; and that 1.0 on 1 vote on 1 read would be bad.

Somewhere between that seems to be better than bad, which is all most of us hope for!
