I normally do not venture out of my house on Friday the 13th.

Long story, believe me...a most unpleasant one. I had even arranged to take tomorrow off and work on Saturday. But I decided against it, so I am going in to work against my "better" judgement.

So I was just wondering...does anyone else here try to avoid this date? Or do you have any other superstitions? (mind you this is not a superstition to me, just really, really bad luck...ok, ok, ok ...a superstition  )

Well....do you?

BTW...if you don't hear from me for a while, you'll know that I should have stayed at home.

I stay clear of Camp Crystal Lake, and avoid guys in ski masks, particularly if they're called Jason.

The history of the superstition surrounding this day is an interesting one.

Usually, I don't even realize what day it is until it's almost over.

When I was a kid, we thought picking up a penny that was face down was bad luck.

I still don't pick em' up--why take a chance? :D

HAHAHAHA!!!!

I saw Friday the 13th when it first came out in the theaters! What's so funny is that on the way home I had a flat tire. Now the car is full of 15 and 16 year old girls who have just been freaked out.

We sat in the car for the longest time hoping a knight in shining armour would come along. Alas, he never showed up. So, since it was my car...I got out and changed the tire. With a carload of teenage girls refusing to get out.

Man, I got some exercise that night.

Oh, just to let you know ....my previous post is NOT the reason for my aversion to Friday the 13th....really.

Actually...the story would make a really good standup routine.........now.

I consider Friday the 13th to be a lucky day--or at least a day of interesting possiblities, and in my experience, it usually is. Love it :)

More concerned about the nasty weather that is in the forecast....

I've been to the camp NEXT to where Friday the 13th was filmed. Didn't scare me at all (except the idea of showing around other people, I was quite shy at that age).

And I'm one of the anti-suprstitious people (in a superstitious way...) and try to make the 13th a good day.

The only day I try to avoid is April 1st. I hate "practical" jokes.

I'm planning on engaging in a not quite random act of kindness tomorrow so I hope I'll bank a teeny bit of karma to counteract any potential ill wind.

I always nearly forget it. I do have a good friend who was born on a Friday the 13th in September. It seems to have colored her whole life.

Never fails with me that on Friday the 13th weird chaos breaks out. Most of the time extreme bad things and extreme good things happen at a rate that is freaky. So anymore I get up on Friday the 13th and look in the mirror, brace myself, take a deep breath and say 'bring it on, i'll still win' and then go off grinning waiting for it to start!

Strange thing is I don't dread the day I just know things will happen one way or another out of the ordinary. I mean it has started already today and I'm holding my own.

same here. it would be nice if the severe t-storms would hold off until after everyone in the fam were settled for the day.

please?

the only traditions i still observe is never handing someone the shaker of salt. grammie insisted that this was important in the extreme but never elaborated. i dont know if she was superstitious or if it was just good manners?

oh that and the penny thing. erm...and i dont sit with my back to a door if i can possibly avoid it...bad mojo.

k, so maybe i do believe in some silly things.

I'm with 3113 - 13 is a *lucky* number. Saying it's unlucky is a Xian anti-pagan thingie. 13 is my luckiest number - the fiance asked me out on the 13th. Today is our semi-versary (6 month. we've been together 2 1/2 years today).

And Chantilly- i am seriously curious - what kinda stuff?

Well, it's past luchtime, and I'm not fatally injured yet. So far so good.

Ooh, my Easter Saturday was cancled for tomorrow, so maybe this is the weekend I should go to Atlantic City? To capitalize on the good luck of Saturday the 14th?

Well, it's nearing beddy byes time and nothing earthshatteringly good or bad has happened here.

It's a myth (fingers crossed :D)

My family has it the Saturday before or after because my sister spends holidays with her in-laws so that they can see her children. We do the same thing with Thanksgiving.
