So Sad and Senseless

Yep. Antabuse. There are, or at least were in Finland, also capsules that can be put under your skin and if you drink you'll just be immediately puking your guts out. I remember a scene in a movie, where an alcoholic took the capsule off by himself, because he just wanted a drink so bad. But I don't think they use the capsules under skin anymore.
I think that would be an ideal way to stop an person from drinking and driving. It might also stop them from drinking period, but I'd say that is just something they would have to deal with because they were drinking and driving.

It might seem more strict than what some societies would go to, but when they are out killing innocent people, I think you do what you know works. I know I wouldn't like puking my guts out, just because I wanted a drink. It might cause a hardship for the offender, but if it keeps people alive...

I think consequences like antabuse early on would have better results than the consequences that are currently in place. Interfering with the behavior in that way is more likely to change behavior than taking away the driver's license. People drive without a license all the time. However, if the person can't take a drink without immediately becoming ill because of the antabuse then there is more of a deterrent to not drink and drive in the future because the consequences really suck. I know the other consequences can be pretty bad as well but people don't see the effects of those immediately. As a society that desires immediate gratification, immediate consequences are more effective.

My daughter was hit by a car on the crossing 5 years ago. She was hurt badly and still suffers consequences but, thank God, she lived.
The driver wasnt drunk, just a stupid kid in fast car showing off and speeding where he shouldnt have.

No solution for that I guess...

Solution after the fact: Take the kid's car away because he has proven he's not mature enough to control it. You don't give it back. He's required to sell it to someone who is mature enough.

Solution before the fact: No fast cars for kids because they don't have the maturity to understand what 2 tons of motorized metal can do when it goes too fast.

There must be consequences and they must be strictly enforced so people will understand that doing stupid things with a car is unacceptable.

I was hit once, when I was crossing a sidewalk. It wasn't a hard hit, because the car was only going about 5 mph. But it was dark, the driver was late for work and in a hurry. He was making a right hand turn and was just looking for other cars, not pedestrians. He hit me on the hip and leg, with his right bumper and headlight and I spun along the side of the car as he went past me. I hit my wrist on his outside rear view mirror and then ended up on my ass, sitting in the street. Only then, did he stop, but by then I was OK.

If I had been a little bit faster in the crosswalk, I'd have been directly in front of his car and he might have run right over me. And, lucky for me, I guess my wrist made noise as it hit the mirror on the side of his car. I really don't think he knew I was there, until then. I'm OK, now...my wrist was a little sore, like I'd tried to bitch slap a brick wall. I'll probably never be able to fist fuck a woman again. Oh, wait...I'm not into that anyway.

I am in favor of preventive measures myself. Not much point once it happens though a good punishment can mean a lot too. Actually I wonder how many people would engage in crime if they werent scared of the legal consequences.
Personally I am directed by my sense of right and wrong, I would not steal in example even if there was 100% guarantee I wouldnt get caught, its simply against my principles. Yes, I am that odd.

So I am more interested in solution before the fact. No fast cars for kids. How would you do that? I have been living in two countries so far, my homeland Croatia and Germany where I married in 10 years ago. I saw exactly zero difference when it comes to spoiled kids and parents with more money than sense or care.
18-19 yo passes a driving test, gets a new BMW, invites a few friends for a ride and there they go, too many times ending in a ditch, lives lost.
So how would you solve such things? Make them pass psychological tests? Demand they drive under the supervision of 30, 40+ yo until they are experienced enough? Who would decide how experienced or smart they are to be let to drive alone? I had a friend who was just an idiot when it came to driving, she was well past 30 but I would never let her drive if I could help it.

I simply cant see what can be done as a prevention.

I was never hit by a car. In 30 years (and I am not a weekend driver), I had exactly one accident and it wasnt my fault, screwed my spinal disc but I got decent reimbursement. So being on the road as much as I am I consider myself lucky. My younger kid wasnt so lucky. My Mother who was ran over by a motorcycle at age of 72 wasnt so lucky either. She lived but broken bones do make problems at her age.
I can only say the offenders were lucky I was 2000km away when both accidents happened. I am irrationally overprotective about my family, I have very foul temper and a big brutal trucker for a husband on my side. He is getting speeding tickets all the time though, with 40 tonner
