I've been with my boyfriend for 9 or 10 months now, and I've cooked for him once.. not because I don't cook, just.. the opportunity doesn't arise... well, it was his birthday on Monday, and he's coming over today, later in the evening... Tomorrow, we're celebrating his birthday... Since I've got like, NO money, I've had to think of alternative things to do for his birthday (which involve no sex cus we're staying at my parent's house this weekend). So here's what I've done:

1) I've baked him a batch of the BEST chocolate chip cookies in the world (the recipe is GOLDEN).. a friend of mine came over and tried them last night, and ran away with a handful of them, cus they were so good..

2) I've made him a chocolate fudge cake, which I'll be icing later today with melted belgian chocolate, and which will be served after tomorrow's dinner, with a raspberry puree and Bryer's vanilla ice cream,

3) tomorrow I'm making him dinner : Rotini with a brie-tomato sauce over it, with grilled chicken breast (it's quite good, actually),

4) I'm making him a charcoal of a sappy love scene, and

5) When he and I first met, I wove him a friendship bracelet. He lost it recently, and has been rather perplexed about it.. so I spent about 5 hours on Monday making him a new, better one.

So there.. :) Cus I had no money, I had to get all domestic.. I hope he doesn't think I'm trying to show off good wife qualities (which is what my friend who took the cookies said he'd think).

Does it sound like an alright birthday present?

Some times the very best gifts come from the heart, your gifts sound like they came straight from your heart. What could be sweeter?

I'd be in just cuz it's been WAY too long since I've had good homemade chocolate chip cookies.

CHEAPSKATE!!

lol, just kidding..as marksgirl pointed out, gifts from the heart mean much more than something purchased at a store.....

He will be thrilled. Gifts of love mean so much more than material things.
And don't be shy about posting that cookie recipe.;)

"Alright" is such a puny, inadequate word for this birthday present.

Time, Effort, and Love are worth so much more than a quick signature on a credit card slip for something he probably doesn't need anyway.

My birthday is in mid-July -- can I cget a present like this too?

Man O' Man, He's one lucky guy.

That list would please any sensible man.

I want your chicken recipe, it sounds yummy (household cook)

What wonderful gifts you've prepared for him!! Gifts from the heart are ALWAYS the best ones to get.
Trish

The pasta recipe (this is my own creation):

What you need:

5 roma tomatoes or tomatoes on the vine
3 cloves of garlic (minced)
2 celery stalks
mushrooms (canned or fresh)
2 carrots
about 1/3 cup of onions (finely chopped)
extra virgin olive oil (I guess 2 tbsps)
about 1/4 cup of peppercorns (whole ones, not crushed)
one wedge of brie cheese
thyme
oregano
basil
(rosemary if you want it)
pepper
salt.

Alrighty, here we go:

1) pour your olive oil into a large pan (at about a temp of 4), and toss in 2 of the cloves of garlic (minced) and your onions. Let them get kissed by the heat for about 3 minutes.
2) toss in your carrots and celery (finely chopped) and your mushrooms (slivered). Let simmer for about 10 minutes, until vegetables are softened (not soft, but softer than they were when you tossed them in)
3) dice your tomatoes and toss them in, ALONG WITH the juice from them. The juices makes the sauce.
4) throw in your peppercorns, salt, pepper, your spices, stir, and then cover and let simmer until tomatoes lose their skin, and a sauce has been made...
5) about 2 minutes before serving, cut your wedge of brie into slices and place in the pan, letting the cheese melt. Also add your last clove of garlic, minced. Cover again, and let the cheese melt, and then stir it in.

-Sauce can be served over pasta, or mixed into pasta (which I prefer). This serves 4 or 5

Chicken: make a marinade of olive oil, thyme, basil, crushed pepper and salt (very simple), add some lemon juice if you like. Let chicken sit in the marinade for about 10 minutes before grilling. Using a stovetop grill (or a barbeque, whatever), grill your chicken, and then remove from heat, cut into strips, and lay overtop of the pasta. Grate some parmesan over the dish, add a garnish, and present to guests. Trust me, this dish is to DIE for. Always remember to season to taste. I don't measure anything in my dishes, as far as spices go. I always just put seasoning in until it can be tasted.

Enjoy, people!

You should save some of that chocolate icing and use it another time. :D :p

Hey, so is mine! Think that recipe can be doubled?

Seriously, vix, if I were your S.O., I'd be bowled over. And if he's not, dump his ass.
