when having company i tend to go with pasta dishes, my favorite to make is Lasagna, generally with 5 cheeses or more and at least 6 inches thick.

if i have lots of fore notice of company then i do a few different stuffed chicken dishes with rice side dishes.

as for the offer to help clean dishes afterwards, sorry i don't let my guests do that, after all they are guests.
