Needlepoint, to be exact. Cushion cover, with seahorses on that shouldn't go with my bedding but does.

I'm 23, and I do needlepoint. Have since I was... old enough to hold a needle!

Am I weird?

My mom taught me to crochet. I haven't done it in years, but I used to love it. So my vote is no. :)

I can knit passably but never learnt to crochet, always wanted to.

I crochet a lot, JL. It's very calming, although carpal-tunnel can be a problem if you do it a lot like I do.

I've sent blankets to a bunch of folks here, and make them for charity, too. Doing work with my hands somehow centers me. :)

I crochet, patchwork, dressmake - it keeps my hands busy and my brain free.

What's weird is people with no hobbies...

You're asking a bunch of pornographers if needlepoint is weird? ;)

No, if liking needlepoint at 23 is weird.

Cloudy - I've had repetitive strain injury for years, so I can get the Carpal Tunnel. Owch.

My grandmother used to crochet. I have two blankets she made me, one is on the end of my bed, and I adore it :)

Oh definately *Smiles* My mother used to make dresses a lot, she used to go to a lot of chatrity dinners with my dad and she could never get dresses in her size. She also made my sisters prom dress... and the bitch ruined it and broke her heart.

/rant off.

Yep. You, Des, Cloudy...all you knitting, needlework, folk...weird, weird, weird. Haven't you read your "Tale of Two Cities"? Madame Defarge knitting the death registry? Persistent needlework is a tell-tale sign of a potential psychopath....

:D

But isn't weird what you're hoping to be? Not to mention dangerous

There's something therapeutic about hand crafting stuff. Not weird at all. You'll have to find some other perversion, I'm afraid, or you simply must leave this place.

Don't make me stick you with my needle, yarn and all :p

I haven't read a tale of two cities...

You want me to list my perversions? You mean the cleavage to nipple scratches aren't enough proof? :)

Hah! Told you so! Dangerous!

I haven't read a tale of two cities...
Don't feel bad about that. I'm not a huge Dickens fan myself--but he has created some of the greatest characters in western literature and Madame Defrage is arguably one of those. A lot of knitters I know like to joke about how Madame Defrage would approve of their exta long scarves, etc.

Madame Defrage: "A cruel revolutionary whose hatred of the aristocracy fuels her tireless crusade, Madame Defarge spends a good deal of the novel knitting a register of everyone who must die for the revolutionary cause....she proves unrelentingly blood-thirsty, and her lust for vengeance knows no bounds."

Wow. Sounds like someone I know, except maybe not *quite* on that scale.

Liar - This is true :)

I'm not a girly girl by any means, I may wear makeup once a month if I'm lucky, I don't get my nails or my hair done but...I sew, knit, crotchet, quilt, bead, bake and arrange flowers like a 1950's housewife. I'm a bit of a paradox

I did every type of needlework Icould find, from about ten years old- from crewel to tatting (Couldn't get the hang of that one!) The only reason I ever stopped was because doing construction tends to change the level of dexterity from small-muscle to large-- and then after that, writing started taking up all my time. But I still love crewel embroidery. Love, love, love it!

I do counted cross-stitch and enjoy it. I'd love to be more "crafty" than I am. My grandmother could crochet beautifully and tried to teach me before her death. For some reason though, I could never get my left hand to keep up.

As for other types of needlework, my stepmother bought me a kit for this one type but I have no idea how to do it. There's all sorts of stitches in it and I'm lost on it.

I can use leaded paint and create stained glass on regular glass. That's just about it for me though, outside cooking.

I've always been crafty and started doing counted cross stitch when I was in college. So, if you're weird for that, JL, so am I.

Could we start a literotica craft commune getaway camp?

Like the litogethers, only with craftwork instead of drinking... (obviously the sex part would remain in place...)

That would be so so cool...

I needlepoint. But not as much as I used to. Fingers don't work so well anymore.

Once, I made this thing with a poem that started "Dear Husband," I gave it to him as a gift one Valentine's Day. I didn't think he really liked it until Christmas. He had needlepointed a matching one. The original had a thistle on one side, he flipped it around to the other side. He changed some of the wording and started it "Dear Wife,"

It's still one of my dearest possessions.

I adore counted cross stitch as a way to relax, but my favorite way to express myself is with a piping bag full of buttercream frosting and an assortment of cake decorating tips.

I've been told I'm rather anachronistic myself. I crochet, quilt, cook and bake, make jellies, jams and can, and also garden. All quite soothing. :rose:

Possibly dangerous though . . sex . . needlepoint . . .
In answer to the above, I have been quilting for years and once owned a business doing it. I make wreaths and ornaments, do all the craft shows and fairs. I love to crochet, can knit ish and am always looking for new crafting stuff. I bead and I have so much cscrapbooking stuff thet I used to have a room dedicated to just that. You are not alone.

I used to do a lot of needlework, but I've gotten away from everything except beading. I've sewn since I was a teenager. I even made made my wedding dress. (something I recommend against)

I'm learning to paint right now. :)
