My wife and I drove north the hour and a half to visit with my folks today. We haven't seen them anywhere near enough this summer, we've all been busy.

Well the drive north was a bit of the pain. It seems my front tires are a bit out of balance, I only felt it when we got up above 65 MPH and then the whole car shook.

We got up there at 1000 and were greeted by my parents and their dog. Then we were introduced to my relatives who got here last night from Germany. It's amazing and scary how much German I have forgotten.

My father and I took my Uncle to see some airboats as well as visit an old fishing camp turned bar. (Talk about a redneck place.) (We ran into a bit of a problem from a younger biker wanna be with a mohawk who wanted to play. It was kind of comical, he was giving my father and my Uncle a hard time because he heard them speaking a foreign language. {My father could have wiped the floor with him without breaking a sweat but,,,,,} Then I came strolling in and asked him if there was a problem. He backed right down and a short time later finished his beer, hopped on his crotch cricket and took off.) Before we left I bought ten pounds of "Gator Tail much to my Uncles surprise.

After this we took my Uncle to one of the local beaches where he got to watch the waves rolling in, feel the warm waters and ogle the young ladies. (He commented that the byoung ladies looked nice and then shook his head when I said I prefered to look at my wife in her bikini.)

My poor wife had to endure being with my mother and two Aunts during this time. They did some shopping while she heard nothing but German. (At least I can understand it.)

After we all returned to my parents place we had an incredible dinner of my mothers Lasagna. (I gained a couple of pounds.)

Before we left my mother unloaded their freezer into a cooler in the back of my car. (A rather large cooler I might add. I now have enough Chicken and beef to last my wife and myself at least a month. Not to mention a rather large Turkey and several pounds of Rabbit.)

One bad thing was my parents announced that they will be heading north next Tuesday and not Wednesday as had been originaly planned. My wife and I wanted to ride the bike up there on Tuesday, which is now out. Our only option is to possibly do this tomorrow. We shall see what developes. (We wont be seeing them until next October unless we decide to do a road trip in the late summer to Mass. which has an odd sort of appeal.)

ARe you sure it's just balancing? I had similar symptoms, which I swore was an unbalanced tire or bad shock, but it turned out to be a bad U-Joint on the driveshaft.

PS: I've also had those symptoms caused by a bad radiator fan clutch. I have no idea why the fan problem only showed up at highway speeds, but it drove me and the mechanics crazy for about three months before we figured it out.

Mmmm also had that issue when the rim was bent...happened when I took a curve a lil too fast in the rain and slammed the side of the car into the curb

Okay well,

This has started in the past couple of months. (I don't do a lot of highway driving.)

I'll have the tires rebalanced using a high speed balancer and see if that helps. If not then I'll have to do some work on it.

The car is a rear wheel drive but the vibration is coming from the front end. (I can feel it in the steering wheel.)

That's pretty much what I experienced with the unbalanced fan. I balanced and rotated the tires three or four times before I was convinced that any vibration from the tires was eliminated: turns out the intitial static balance that found a one ounce imbalance in the right front was the sum total of the problem with the tires.

The vibration from the fan was being transmitted to the steering wheel through the common drive belt and the P/S unit.
