...that's AL, by the way. Anyway, I went down there today and I realized just how much I really didn't like the place. The roads made no sense. The people were odd, including one lady with hair like Don King who waved at me when I took a wrong turn. I think I was in a bad neighborhood, but that's so damn hard to tell in Birhmingham. The place is polluted to hell; I saw multiple people throw shit out there windows without apparently caring. I also saw a sign saying Jesus doesn't want you to call phone psychics. Nice.
I was going to all of this to see City Stages, which I suppose would be the big cultural event around here. Most cities in AL have some sort of "Look, we can have culture" fest every year. In my hometown said festival is called Panoply and is mainly an excuse to be deafened by bad gospel while you buy popsicle stick puppets. Ah well.
The important thing is of course that I have faced the city and lived. I managed to get there, find where the hell I was going, and eventually leave as well. Too bad I spent half the trip home wanting to fall asleep at the wheel.

I needed a vacation.

From that description, i guess Birmingham hasn't changed in the past ten years.

So, Sillyman, which side of the Alabama family do you belong to? Make your loyalties known ....... Bama or that cow college?

I was first there in '65. Last there a few years ago. Nothing has really changed.

Gawd, I hope he's not from the backwoods, his wit is too sharp for that and he said nothin' about being in love with his sister.

Have you considered New York? Now that you're experienced with big city ways and all.

I don't side with football teams. Never have, never will. I like orange jello, and that's as far as my preferences run.

Last I heard the statue was still under repairs, although I may be wrong. I certainly didn't get to see it.

Sillyman, it's okay. You're among friends here. You can admit which side of the family you're on.

Unless you've already been thrown out of both. It's illegal in the state of Alabama not to have an allegiance to either Bama or Auburn.

Some of those cow college supporters can actually be okay on occasion.

I am in no way, shape or form scared of New York. There isn't any need to get catty.

I'm from Huntsville, which is really pretty much one giant sprawling suburb. It's pathetic compared to most cities, and has way too much stuff in it to be considered really rural, so it's really just one giant eyesore.

I'd never fuck my sister. God knows what kind of VD I would catch.

Huntsville's a great city. It's pretty, it's peaceful and it's interesting because of the high tech element. I have lots of friends there.

Hello MorningGirl. I don't think badly of Tuscaloosa even if it is in the backwoods, why I'm even pleased for them. I even heard they figured out how to bring electricity there recently.

NYC is no great shakes, I lived on the upper west side for a while...Its fun, but not rough.

You're only a couple hours from Nashville, another fine city. I always enjoyed Nashville..it's worth a trip to drop in to the Blue Bird Cafe.

You must have Tuscaloosa confused with Winfield or Oxford.

I'm sure they'll get indoor plumbing for you poor people down on the plains soon.

I've been to Huntsville, did some work for the GSA there. Suburb USA, same fast food, same motels, same everything. But you did make it sound like B'ham was the big bad city. I like the Five Points area, just at the bottom of the big hill where the statue normally is. The downtown seems pretty straightforward too, if I remember. Numbered streets, east and west, north and south. Almost midwestern. If you really want to get lost someday in a City, try London.

It's just everytime I go there I get lost, and my drug addict genes invariably direct me to the nearest crackhouse. If I ever do go to New York, I'm taking a guide.

I have been to actual cities. I've been to Philidelphia. I've been to Chicago. I've been to Kansas City. Real nice places. The thing is when I went there, I had someone help me get around who knew the layout.
