...sort of a magazine summary of some stuff, and I came across this passage:

...a tightly controlled press; the use of ethnic scapegoats to build majority support; a mutually beneficial alliance among industry, the army, and the government; the co-optation of religious leaders; the use of diplomatic crises and foreign wars to create national unity.

It struck me as awfully familiar in some ways, a set of tactics I've seen recently in various places and realms.

Of whom does this passage make you think?

I'll reveal the source and who it was referencing in a while. I'm curious to see who people associate with these tactics. Who do you think of?

FDR is a pretty funny answer.

I'm also thinking John Adams. The press was never more tightly controlled than during his administration, and the XYZ affair caused the specter of war with France to loom heavily on the horizon. I'm not sure about the ethic minorities, but I'm guessing either German or Irish.

Karl Marx and anyone who follows his preaching. Others I can think of...Rahm Emanual and Barry Obama.

Nazi germany

A great book on Hitler is "the psychopathic god" its as if ole Adolf was on the couch...

Without reading lower in the thread (scout's honor), that reads like the typical fascist playbook.

It's either the 14 points of fascism...

...or the Republican national committee platform.

....or both.

Hitler was my first and scariest thought, but we also live in today, I believe.

I'm not speaking about it coming from Obama, either. But I noticed the usual chimed in with that stupid notion.

But guessing Cheney wasn't?
