First, yes I did a search. . .but there's been nothing very recent on this topic and I thought perhaps there might be some "newbies" who could offer their advice as well.

It is really time that I give up this nasty habit. . .I want to, really! But, I'm also terrified of turning into a psycho bitch or a walking garbage can.

Is it better to quit cold turkey? Or, are meds the better way to go?

Advice, support and alternative suggestions for what I can put in my mouth will be greatly appreciated. :D

You might want to try Quitnet.com If nothing else, there are forum boards there, and many people you could get advice from.

Check them out, it's pretty neat.

Cutie pie, if you really want to quit smoking, you can do it. Cold turkey is hard if you have a heavy habit or have been smoking for a long time. Meds are what helped me, Wellbutrin. I have not smoked for 3+ years and it is the best thing I ever did for myself.

Be aware that it is very easy to gain weight after quitting smoking. However, if you are careful and eat only healthy foods and snacks, you can quit without gaining a bunch of weight. Also, the meds may help to keep you from turning into 'psycho bitch'. Be aware you should only take the meds with a doctors direction.

Hope this helps a little. Good luck and hang in there. You CAN do it!! :rose: Feel free to email or PM me if you want.

I tried the wellbutrin (Zyban) and it didn't help one iota, however, the nicotrol inhalers really helped, when I could stick with it, I'm a very unorganized person, I'm always losing things, and the inhaler even tho it came in a little case, I lost it like at least twice a day. But by far, that did help the most. It helped beat the cravings big time. I did go back to smoking, but that was because I live with a house full (5)of neurotic smokers and I'd have to kill one of them if I didn't have a release, however I am going to try again, I basically attempt every day, in trying to go the longest without it....So far, I've made it thru most of the day. All I can really tell you is just to keep trying! It does get easier! Good luck!

quit cold

You may already be a psycho bitch...but aren't aware of that fact...so don't worry.

I quit cold turkey....how did I do it?

I really decided that I wanted too. No really wanted too. Then I smoked quite a bit that day and focused on all of the negatives like...
you can't smoke anywhere now a days...
it's very unhealthy....
my lungs are turning black and their are holes in it (I really focused on my lungs dying everytime I smoked)...
I thought about yellow fingers....the smell on my clothes...
I just washed my hair and it smells clean right now...
smokers cough...
the fact that I got out of breath climbing stairs...
every negative thing you can think of...

Also...about that time (that I decided) my father developed lung cancer and died... I didn't want to reach that point of no return.

Good Luck Cutie Pie!
