Hi people,
I'm not new to Lit and not to he boards, but I figured I'll try to hang out her a bit more. You all seem like a great bunch! :)

I keep reading stories and I keep wanting to write something myself. Now, the main problem is that I'm terrible at finishing stories! I start writing, then I either get stuck or just can't be bothered to write something more. Mainly it's the whole getting stuck thing.

I've never written any erotica before and it's been a while since I wrote anything more creative. Having something to write about is of course an issue, but I decided to take a friend's advice and base it on a fantasy or even reality.

So,now I'm wondering, what do you guys do when you get stuck in a story? Are you incredibly disciplined to continue writing a bit every day, or do you only write when you feel like it and when the inspiration hits you?

Hi LP,

The thing I do to try to avoid getting stuck is to write an outline of the whole story. It can be as simple as a list of things you want in the story, in the order you want them to occur. It will help you at least think through the story from beginning to end.

When you feel comfortable about your destination with a story, the trip on the way is a lot more fun. ;)

The key thing is to have fun with it.

I write whenever I can. This usually ends up as sudden burst of activity every 3 or 4 months. I do force myself to try and write when I'm stuck, but I accept that if it's not happening, then it's not happening andl eave it for a while.

Don't ask me though, I'm a terrible person to take advice from on producing regular stories. Ask Chicklet.

Me - when I feel like it and the inspiration strikes.

So far I'm only writing true stories, so I'm not stuck for plot and don't really need an outline, but sometimes my fingers just... won't... type. Especially the dirty words.

The thing is, I know what I want to write. I know what is going to happen. I just can't seem to put it down in words... I don't want it to sound tacky and such.

Been there. It's writer's block. YOu have four options:

1) Keep writing and ploughing through. Force yourself to work
2) Leave it for a while and come back at a later date
3) Change your environment: - try workign longhand if you normally type, listen to different music, etc.
4) Abandon the story and work on something else

The top three have all worked for me in the past, but I'm afraid no-one can really give you that much help on what to do. Just give you some generalised advice and empathise.

I remember when I first started writing. It was tough for me to get that first chapter of that first story out the way I wanted. I wrote and re-wrote it more than a few times.

What I do when I write is live the story in my mind while I type it out. I can become oblivious to what is around me while I write. Think about how you fantasize about things at times, how you can get so lost in the images in your mind. Now write it while you live it.

The key thing is just to just start and keep at it until you feel you have developed something you like. Along the way, you will develop a style that you like. It will be frustrating at first. But the rewards later will make it worth the effort.

Hope this helps. :)

Thanks all for your comments. Maybe I should have tried writing something shorter for my first story...
